随分と煮詰まった感のあるビートルズのマテリアルであるが、ここに驚きのタイトルをマニアの方々に提示出来るのを非常に嬉しく思う。初登場映像をふんだんに盛り込んだゲット・バック・セッションから、音源と映像のセットである。1969年1月、トゥイッケンナム・フィルム・スタジオとアップル・スタジオで撮影及び録音された膨大なマテリアル。音源は体系的なものがリリースされていたが、こと映像に関してはその限りではなかった。音源の多くにピーという映像と同期させる信号が含まれていることから、映像マテリアルもかなり残されているのではと予測されていたが、今までほとんど陽の目を見る事がなく、また断片的に見る事のできた映像も日付クレジットがあやふやで、ことゲット・バック・セッションの映像を体系的にまとめたものがなかった。本作は、それを初めて日付順に映像を整理し、実際のセッションのスケジュールに同期して視聴できる画期的なタイトルである。

ゲット・バック・セッションの映像は、映画を前提として収録されたものである。そのため前半はレコーディング・スタジオではなくトウィッケンナムのフィルム・スタジオでセッションが行なわれている。音楽もさることながら、撮影に重点を置いたものである企画であるという事実が伺える。ご存知の通り映画は全編カラー作品であるが、不思議な事に流出映像はカラーとモノクロの2種類が存在する。同じ時に同じ場所で撮影されたと思しきショットもある中で、何故モノクロ映像が存在するのか、これは本来カラーであったものが流出の過程でモノクロに変換されたものなのか、そして内容もほとんどダブらず、まったく別の映像として存在するだけに謎である。本シリーズは、「LET IT BE DAY BY DAY in color」「LET IT BE DAY BY DAY in black & white」と題し、カラー映像セットとモノクロ映像セットでわけてリリースされることになった。本作はカラーの部である。

1月2日は録音機材や楽器の搬入の場面から始まる。急ごしらえのレコーディング場なのだということがわかる。また撮影スタジオだけに密室的なレコーディング・スタジオと異なりだだっ広く、季節が冬という事もあり、メンバーはルーフトップで着用していたコートをそれぞれ着ているのがわかる。ジョージ・マーティンの姿も見える。ヨーコも隣席しているが、手持無沙汰なのか、黙々と編み物をしている。
1月3日はリンゴが座っている横でポールがピアノを弾いているお馴染みのシーンである。途中ジョージが到着してリンゴとにっこり笑いながら話している。演奏シーンももちろんだが、機材のセッティングや調整しているシーンも含まれている。「All Things Must Pass」を歌っているシーンが印象的である。フロントの3人がディスカッションをしているのを後ろでリンゴが不安そうに見ているのも、このセッションの特徴や雰囲気を表しているといえよう。
1月6日、ポールはピアノで「Oh Darling」を歌っているシーン。ジョージとポールの口論のシーンもこの日に撮影されている。メインは「Don’t Let Me Down」のレコーディングの様子である。
1月7日は「Get Back」のレコーディングである。まだ粗削りで曲は完成に程遠い感じである。「Maxwell’s Silver Hammer」のシーンではマル・エバンスが曲に合わせて実際に本物のハンマーを鳴らしているのも確認できる。その後はジョンが非常に気怠い感じで歌う「Across The Universe」である。ジョンとポールがハモる部分でお互い目を合わせにっこりするシーンがホッとする瞬間である。

1月9日は再び「Two Of Us」にトライしている。この時点ではまだエレクトリック・セットのアレンジである。
1月10日はいよいよヨーコの歌が登場である。前衛的なジャムを展開するビートルズのメンバーをバックに、ヨーコがひたすらジョン！ジョン！ジョ～～～～ン！と叫ぶだけのものである。ビートルズのレコーディングという聖域に入り、あろうことかビートルズをバックに歌うという恐れ知らずな映像である。「Don’t Worry Kyoko」も演奏される。途中ポールはベースをアンプに近付かせ、わざとハウリングをおこさせるなど、いろいろ実験的な事を試しているようだ。
1月13日は演奏シーンがなく、ディスカッションのシーンのみである。ポールがひとりで演説をしている感じで、このプロジェクト自体がポールを中心に進んでいるというのがわかる。若くて可愛らしいラブリー・リンダの姿も見える。
1月14日は非常にご機嫌なポールとリンゴが挨拶を交わすシーンから収録されている。ビートルズは夜型の生活をおくっていたが、この時ばかりは映画の撮影スタッフの事も考慮して朝方になっていたと伝えられる（それがトウィッケンナムでのレコーディングが不評だった理由でもある）。それが証拠にポールとリンゴは「おはヨーグルト！」という元気いっぱいに言葉を交わしている。レコーディングの合間に何らかの番組のためにジョンとヨーコがスタジオでインタビューを受けている。

【DVD : APPLE STUDIO】
1月21日は、これまた映画とは関係なく、ストーンズの『Rock’n’ Roll Circus』に挿入する手話（的なもの）を交えたコメントを撮影している。この日から撮影はアップル・スタジオに移動して行なわれている。ホーム・グラウンドの心安さからか、普段着で非常にリラックスした様子が伺える。
1月22日はゲスト・プレイヤーとしてビリー・プレストンを迎えている。けして関係良好でなかったこの時期のメンバー間の緊張を緩和するのに非常に助かったとジョージはビリー・プレストンを評価している。中には珍しいプレイバックを全員で聴いている映像もある。
1月23日はなんとビートルズの出勤シーンから始まる。アップル・ビルに次々と現れるビートルズのメンバー。これもまた映画のために敢えて作られたシーンなのだろう。近所に住んでいたポールは歩いて通勤していたのがわかる。トウィッケンナムでは険悪な雰囲気だったが、ここでは素直にポールの指示を聞き入れるジョージが映っている。
1月24日はゆったりとしたテンポの「Get Back」である。1月25日は「Old Brown Shoe」のレコーディングがメインで収録されている。まだ26歳と男っぷりが全盛の髭をたくわえたジョージが歌うバックで、ポールはピアノ、そしてジョンはギターを膝の上に置いてボトルネックを使い、あの印象的なリフを奏でている。ヨーコが片時も離れなかったといのが映像からも確認できる。
1月26日はジョージがアコギを弾きながらリンゴと一緒に「Octopus’s Garden」を歌っている。二人だけの練習のようだ。この曲は4人の連名クレジットだが、この映像を見ると実質的にジョージがメインで作った曲だというのがわかる。ジョージがピアノを弾きながらリンゴに歌唱指導をしている。意外だったのはリンゴもピアノが弾けるという点であろうか。二人の練習中に次々とメンバーがスタジオに現れている。ジョージ・マーティンが到着し、ジョンとヨーコは到着するなりタバコをふかし、続いてスタジオ入りしたポールはヘザーちゃんを連れてきている。なるほど壁に貼ってある絵はヘザーちゃんが書いたものなのだろう。この日はオリジナルから離れ、気晴らしに演奏したと思しきオールディーズ・ナンバーが数多く演奏されている。ジョンの実に楽しそうな顔ったらない。
1月27日は「Get Back」が収録されている。ポールが立ってライヴ形式でレコーディングされている。曲はかなりリリース・バージョンに近く、ビリー・プレストンのキーボードも含めほぼ完成しているのがわかる。スタジオに見学に来たミックジャガーらの姿も見える。
1月28日はプレイバックを皆で確認している映像である。1月29日はポールとジョンが真剣なディスカッションをしている映像から始まる。ポールが必死にこのプロジェクトの説明をジョンに行なっている様子を見る事ができる。カチンコが入るので、映画のためのヤラセとも思える。

【DVD : ROOFTOP CONCERT】
そしていよいよ1月30日ルーフトップ・コンサートの日である。音は編集が必要ながら各ロールを繋げればほぼ全貌が再現できるが、こと映像となると今まできちんとしたものが存在しなかった音はあるので映像もあることはわかっていたが、それらを見る事は今まで出来なかった。本作では、まさに映像でルーフトップを再現する初めてのタイトルとなるだろう。メンバーが階下から上がって来てスタンバイする様子から収録されている。1月末のロンドンは曇り空でジョンの髪が靡くところを見ると風も強いようだ。最初はウォームアップで「Get Back」のリフを軽く音出しである。突如鳴り響いた音に道行く人たちは何事かと見上げている。そして2度「Get Back」を演奏する。映画では複数のテイクが編集により繋げられていてわかりづらいのだが、さらに最後にもう一度、「Get Back」は都合3回演奏されている。同じ曲を複数回演奏するということは、これがコンサートではなく、あくまで映画のための撮影であることを示唆している。もちろん本作でも完全収録とはならなかったものの、初登場部分を含め、ルーフトップの映像としては初めて、実際の曲順で最長収録している点に注目して欲しい。

そして1月31日がこのセッションの最終日となる。最終日だけあってかなりしっかり演奏した完成された映像が残されている。当初はエレクトリック・セットで演奏されていた「Two Of Us」は、結局ここに収録されているようにアコギでの演奏がベストと判断されたようだ。「The Long And Winding Road」は見てるこちらが照れてしまうようなカメラ目線のポールである。そして最終的にタイトル曲となった「Let It Be」はこの日3テイクも撮影されている。特に2テイク目はカチンコから収録という流出映像である。

前述の通り、映画撮影のために同時に複数台カメラがまわされており、ルーフトップ・コンサートは同じ曲でも、他のビルからのショット、メンバーの後ろ、そして正面で寝そべっているカメラマン、複数からのショットが残されている。本作では特にそれぞれまとまった映像が残されている「Get Back」「Don’t Let Me Down」「I’ve Got A Feeling」の3曲について、同時に再生して見比べる事が出来るように収録してある。またルーフトップではないが、「Besame Mucho」に関してもカット違いがあるので、同時に収録してある。また、マルチ映像ではないが、「Don’t Let Me Down」と「Besame Mucho」には別編集のものがあるので、こちらも収録されている。

これは映画『レット・イット・ビー』の監督マイケル・リンゼイ・ホッグが撮影したフィルムを映画の形に編集する際のワーキング・プリントである。最終的にカットされた映像が残されており、また音声も公開されたものと違いがある。

【DVD : EXTRAS】
ディスクの最後には、「LET IT BE」関連の映像が収録されている。最初は映画のトレイラー。そして映画のバージョンによってエンディングのテロップが異なるため、ここではその2種類のエンディングをそれぞれ収録してある。グラミー賞は1971年3月16日に行なわれたものである。映画「LET IT BE」が最優秀映画音楽賞を受賞することとなり、その受賞式にビートルズを代表してポールがリンダを同伴して出席した時の映像である。この時点で既にビートルズは解散している。二人の容姿がモロ1971年のそれなので非常に萌えてしまう。続いて1971年4月16日、こちらはアカデミー賞の授賞式である。残念ながらメンバーは出席していない。「ANTHOLOGY ROUGH CUT」は、映像作品アンソロジーのワーキング・バージョンに収録されていた関連映像。製作段階の流出映像で、下部にタイムコードが残っている。

紹介する順序が逆になってしまったが、本作には映像とは別に3枚のCDが同時に収録されている。ディスク1とディスク２の半分までは、1969年1月3日のステレオ音源が収録されている。セッションが始まって間もないため、まだ散漫な印象を受けるが、演奏頻度が少ないカバー曲や、後にジョージのソロ・アルバムに収録される「All Things Must Pass」を何度も繰り返しトライしているなど、かなり興味深い日である。珍しいところでは「I’m So Tired」「Ob La Di Ob La Da」「Back In The U.S.S.R.」や「Every Little Thing」といったかつてビートルズで演奏した事のある曲、「Gimme Some Truth」といった後にソロ・アルバムに収録される曲などがある。

【CD : RAJIO SHOW】 こちらは1970年3月23日に当時放送されたラジオ番組である。日付を見てわかる通り、まだ映画もアルバムも未発売の時期での放送である。この時点ではリスナーも放送局も、この時放送されたのが実際にリリースされたテイクと異なる貴重なものだと気付いた人はいなかったはずである。ビートルズのメンバーのインタビュー、そしてこの時点で既にリリースされていたソロの曲などを交え、発売前のビートルズのニューアルバムを紹介する興味深いプログラムとなっている。
