The Beatles 1964 American tour reigned as the three major soundboard giants from the LP era, Vancouver, Hollywood Bowl, and “PHILADELPHIA 1964 SOUNDBOARD REEL TO REEL”, whose best version was just released. The excavated sound source that appeared after the arrival of the CD era was Indianapolis on September 3rd. It seems to be a sound board recording recorded for radio broadcasting, and although it is regrettable that the finale “Long Tall Sally” ends in less than a minute, the sound quality and performance content are very good, so it blinks In 64 years, it has joined the ranks of the new American standard.
The first recording of this sound source was the Digipack CD “STATE FAIR TO HOLLYWOOD” issued by the nostalgic Great Dane, but for many maniacs it is familiar with Yellow Dog’s “THE ULTIMATE LIVE COLLECTION”. Wasn’t it? The appeal of this sound source is the fresher sound quality compared to Vancouver and Philadelphia, which were also recorded for radio. Since those titles were released after 1993, I was surprised by the good condition that I could not believe that it was a sound board recording that had been sleeping for about 30 years.
The basis for this release was the version released by Krw_co last month, and in that respect it can be said that it is literally a sequel excavation of “PHILADELPHIA 1964 SOUNDBOARD REEL TO REEL”.

This version has a very natural texture, and the hiss that can be heard in the opening rather determines the natural listening comfort. By the way, from the opening moderator intro to the beginning of “Twist And Shout”, the sound is slightly muffled, but the noise of crackling that enters when Paul and George are harmonizing after the interlude of “All My Loving” Etc. is the same as the existing board.
In other words, the already-released board and the noise part mentioned above are the same. From there, it can be easily guessed that the Yellow Dog board etc. corrected the problem at the beginning of “Twist And ~” and suppressed hiss noise with equalization. In other words, the original tape of the already released board is this version?
Also, overall this time is more natural and clear, and the difference is obvious when listening to fast-tempo songs like “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. Furthermore, this sound source is also a recording where you can see the dilemma that the apple cymbals are undulating from the beginning, but it also sounds a little more calm than the existing board. However, the dropouts that frequently occur in “A Hard Day’s Night” are the same this time.

One of the great attractions of Indianapolis is that the atmosphere of the performance is completely different from the three giant soundboards from the LP era mentioned above, but the secret seems to have been the venue that day. Because those three performances were staged in a situation where it was difficult to hear their own performance, but on this day the level of screaming itself was lower than on other days, and it was quiet. There was even a scene where he gave it to me. Thanks to that, the Beatles themselves testified that they could hear their performance unusually. As a result, on this day, a very polite performance stands out compared to the previous three sound sources.
The solid performance of “You Can’t Do That” sung by John, and the impression that “I Want To Hold Your Hand” is played calmly. And the ultimate is “Boys”, which is rare before apples start playing, “Do you have a microphone? All right, all right, 1234!” After all, “Boys” here is a super high-tension performance and apples seem to be having a lot of fun. A wonderful thing that can be asserted that it is the best take of the tour.
Of course, “PHILADELPHIA 1964 SOUNDBOARD REEL TO REEL” is probably the best in terms of a powerful performance, but the surprisingly polite performance on this day is also wonderful. Rather, it is a name sound board that you can enjoy listening to and comparing the differences, and it is also epoch-making that it is recorded in a more natural state than before. After all, the situation that their performance was not drowned out by screams and could be heard was too great. The classic sound source of the 1964 American tour, next to the three giant standard sound sources, will be released on a limited press CD!

CD「STATE FAIR TO HOLLYWOOD」でしたが、多くのマニアにとってはイエロー・ドッグの「THE ULTIMATE LIVE COLLECTION」で親しんだのではなかったでしょうか。

ジョンが歌う「You Can’t Do That」のどっしりとした演奏、さらに「I Want To Hold Your Hand」は落ち着いて演奏している印象。
