The Beatles “COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS” which is popular as “Easy to understand”, “Sessions are well organized” is an appearance with a small interval. This time the recording session of the historical masterpiece “RUBBER SOUL” whose sound has undergone a big change is documented. As with releases so far, it is based on Mr. colturkey’s net release, but with regard to editing related to “RUBBER SOUL”, an unprecedented situation has occurred. Mr. colturkey ‘s edition release itself is compiled based on “RUBBER SOUL STUDIO SESSIONS: BACK TO BASICS” which is now undeniable. In response to this finish, on the site another fan who calls csnyfan pointed out “should use more upper version sound source”, and finally he himself announced the content improvement version at last.
Therefore, this release is based on the csnyfan version which was subjected to updater editing, not the usual colturkey version, especially for DISC-1. However, even when it releases, it will rewash and add further sound sources. It is no longer an exaggeration to say that it is different from both versions, it is almost finished in the document of “RUBBER SOUL” session by our original editing.
Recording of “RUBBER SOUL” is a work that can be called the first vertex of 4 track recording which started from “I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1963. Here we rehearse thoroughly at Abbey Road Studios and turn the recorder where the arrange has settled. In the meantime, the tape was turned from the rehearsal for confirmation of the arrangement, but most of it was erased in production recording and not existed. As a result of this work, we boasted the efficiency of completing almost all of the album tracks around 2 take. So it is only a session track source of basic tracks that overlap take, the content is insufficient, and in this release it is a translation finished adding more additions to the net release.

For songs like ‘Michelle’ and ‘Drive My Car’ for example, we added the original “BEATLES: ROCKBAND” that we called on in 2009 and recorded the sound source of the session state that did not fade out, and documented the session. A similar sound source was used to incorporate a lot of sound source in the backing track state, but also sound source of “Girl” backing track state was recorded also in Mr. colturkey’s masterpiece, and the finish here is also really wonderful . Although sound source of backing track state which used “ROCKBAND” has been released until now, it is a wonderful perfect instrument state where no vocals enter at all here.
Also in the updater version by csnyfan, John Barrett sound source and Roger Scott sound source, which forms the core of the session sound source, are summarized from each net release of MasterJedi (producer of the best seller “LAST LACQUERS”), which was the longest and best version of the version I added more version of his version this time. In addition, since many noise sources are also being processed by csnyfan, noise sources are replaced by MasterJedi’s original source. Especially for the first disc, it is worth noting because it is summarized by edited contents so that you can not keep the prototype of the colturkey version.
The best example is the session scene of masterpiece “Norwegian Wood”. Of course I replaced them with the MasterJedi version, but I equalized the sound of the sound that was originally caused by the cassette · genetics peculiar to John Barrett sound source, which was remarkable especially on Take 2. Regarding this take 2, although the pitch was recorded in a state where the pitch was elevated so far, it is also noteworthy that this time it is adjusted to an accurate pitch. In addition, the one at the stage where the sitar does not enter yet with Take 4 which is the source of the completed version was added by csnyfan making full use of “ROCKBAND”.
In order to make a more realistic collection of sessions, further releases in this release are the sound sources of the net release “MINUS ONE”. This is a person whose name “Lord Ruth” who released the Washington DC upper version video which is currently best selling continues tailoring the vocals of each song to a single track state. From there we adopt the single track version of “Nowhere Man” and “The Word” and reproduce the stage one step before completion. By incorporating this in this release, we have made it closer to more realistic recording documents.
And the coolest sound source is a piece of mono / mix that John personally owned. George’s “If I Needed Someone” and John’s vocal take another take “Run For Your Life”. In addition, the sound source etc. which tried the interlude of “In My Life” with the organ corresponds to it. It seemed to be a sound source owned by John, none of them was missing incomplete recordings, but it was also a source of shock that revealed the trial and error of the interlude of “In My Life” in particular. Although it is a very maniac sound source, these points also preciously cut out a piece of session and showed it.

Elvis Costello confesses that at the beginning of the movie “EIGHT DAYS A WEEK” the serious style of “RUBBER SOUL” which had suddenly changed from the vibrant pop line of the previous work “HELP!” Let’s assert that the content that the apology change was documented is content which can be heard intriguously even if it is not Beatles / mania. 「解りやすい」、「セッションをよくまとめてくれている」と大好評のビートルズ「COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS」が少しのインターバルを置いての登場です。今回はサウンドが大変貌を遂げた歴史的名作「RUBBER SOUL」のレコーディング・セッションをドキュメント。これまでのリリースと同様にcolturkey氏によるネット・リリースをベースとしていますが「RUBBER SOUL」関連の編集に関してはそれまでにない異例の事態が発生。colturkey氏の編集盤リリース自体は今や旧態化した感が否めない「RUBBER SOUL STUDIO SESSIONS: BACK TO BASICS」を元に編纂。この仕上がりに対し、サイト上ではcsnyfanを名乗る別のファンが「さらなるアッパー版音源を駆使すべき」と指摘し、遂には彼自身が内容向上版を発表するに至りました。
よって今回のリリースですが、特にDISC-1に関しては、いつものcolturkeyバージョンではなく、アップデータ編集の施されたcsnyfanバージョンを元にしています。とは言ってもリリースに際してはさらなる音源の洗い直しと追加を敢行。もはや両人のバージョンとも違う、ほとんど当店独自の編集による「RUBBER SOUL」セッションのドキュメントに仕上がったのだと言っても過言ではありません。
「RUBBER SOUL」のレコーディングというのは1963年の「I Want To Hold Your Hand」から始まった4トラック・レコーディング最初の頂点と呼べる作品。ここではアビーロード・スタジオにおいて徹底的にリハーサルを行い、アレンジが固まったところでレコーダーを回すというもの。一応、アレンジ確認用にリハからテープは回されていたのですが、その大半は本番レコーディングに消去されて現存しません。こうした作業の結果としてアルバム収録曲のほとんどが2テイク前後で完成という効率の良さを誇りました。よってテイクを重ねるベーシックトラックのセッション音源だけですと内容が足らず、今回のリリースではネット・リリースにさらなる追加に追加を重ねた仕上がりとなった訳です。

例えば「Michelle」や「Drive My Car」のような曲に関しては2009年に話題を呼んだ「BEATLES: ROCKBAND」を独自に追加してフェイドアウトしないセッション状態、の音源を収録し、セッションをドキュメント。同様の音源を駆使してバッキングトラック状態の音源も多く組み込まれましたが、例えばcolturkey氏の大本にも「Girl」のバッキングトラック状態の音源が収録されており、こちらの仕上がりがまた実に素晴らしい。今までも「ROCKBAND」を使用したバッキングトラック状態の音源がリリースされたことがありますが、ここでは一切ボーカルの入らない完全インスト状態がお見事。
またcsnyfanによるアップデータ・バージョンではセッション音源の中核を成すジョン・バレット音源やロジャー・スコット音源は最長かつ最良のバージョンをまとめていたMasterJedi（ベストセラー「LAST LACQUERS」の制作者）の各ネット・リリースからまとめていましたが、今回は彼のバージョンをさらに追加。更にcsnyfanによるノイズリダクション処理も行われている音源も多いためMasterJediの元ソースに差し替えています。特に一枚目のディスクに関してはcolturkeyバージョンの原型を留めないほど編集し直された内容でまとめられていますので要注目です。
その最たる例が名曲「Norwegian Wood」のセッション風景。それらをMasterJedi版に差し替えたのはもちろんですが、特にテイク2で顕著だったジョン・バレット音源特有のカセット・ジェネ落ちによって生じていた音のこもりを独自にイコライズ。このテイク2に関しては、これまでピッチが高めな状態で収録されていたのですが、今回は正確なピッチへとアジャストされことも特筆すべき点かもしれません。おまけに完成版の元であるテイク4でまだシタールが入らない段階のものは「ROCKBAND」を駆使してcsnyfanによって付け加えられたもの。
さらにリアルなセッション集に仕上げるべく、今回のリリースでさらに投入されたのがネット・リリース「MINUS ONE」の音源。これは現在ベストセラー続行中のワシントンDCアッパー版映像を公開してくれたLord Ruthという人物が各楽曲のボーカルをシングルトラック状態に仕立てたもの。そこからは「Nowhere Man」や「The Word」のシングルトラック・バージョンを採用し、完成一歩手前の段階を再現しています。これを今回のリリースで組み込むことにより、さらにリアルなレコーディング・ドキュメントへと近づけてみせました。
そしてもっとも渋い音源としてはジョンが個人的に所有していたモノ・ミックスの断片。ジョージの「If I Needed Someone」やジョンのボーカルが別テイクの「Run For Your Life」。さらには「In My Life」の間奏をオルガンで試していた音源などがそれに相当します。いかにもジョン所有の音源らしく、どれも不完全な収録なのが惜しまれますが、特に「In My Life」の間奏の試行錯誤ぶりを明らかにしてくれた衝撃の音源でもありました。非常にマニアックな音源ではありますが、これらもまたセッションの一片を切り取ってみせてくれたこと点が貴重。

DISC-2の14.以降はボーナストラックだと思ってください。ポールがバーナード・ウェッブの変名（ちなみにこの名前をグーグルで検索するとポールが表示されます！凄いですね）でピーター＆ゴードンに提供し、しかも大ヒットを記録した「Woman」二つのバージョンは近年アセテート盤が発掘されてマニアの間で話題を呼んだ作者のポールがドラムを叩いたテイク。「RUBBER SOUL」を完成させ、ビートルズ最後のイギリス・ツアー開始直前の1965年に12月1日にポールが参加して録音されたもの。後に録り直されてリリースされたバージョンほど歌謡曲っぽい雰囲気ではなく、むしろポールの叩くドラムがイントロからドカドカと鳴り響くのが印象的。収録された二つのバージョンはどちらも同じ演奏ですが、ゴードン・ウォーラーのボーカルが別テイクとなっています。
その後は各種オフィシャルの別ミックスを中心に収録。違いが解り辛いながらも、テレビ番組「MUSIC OF LENNON AND McCARTNEY」用に作られたモノ・ミックスまで今回にリリースに際して追加収録。おかげでセッション音源を二枚のディスクに効率よくまとめたのはもちろん、アルバムに収録された曲のミックス違いまでも効率よくまとめ上げており、全体を通してアルバム「RUBBER SOUL」の完成までを解りやすく追った内容に仕上げました。
エルヴィス・コステロは映画「EIGHT DAYS A WEEK」の中で前作「HELP!」の快活なポップ路線から一気に豹変した「RUBBER SOUL」のシリアスな作風に最初は戸惑いを禁じ得なかったと告白しています。その豹変こそぶりがドキュメントされた内容はビートルズ・マニアでなくとも興味深く聞ける内容であると断言いたしましょう。ギタリストなら誰もが弾いたであろう「Day Tripper」も最初のテイクから完成まで通しで聞けてしまう。そんなセッション集の最新版が遂に限定のプレスCDにてリリースされます。お待たせいたしました！
