The movie “Anvil! With the hit of “Men who can’t give up their dreams”, ANVIL in 2010 made its name known to the general public. Introducing an original recording that allows you to experience the performance in Japan.
It is “April 21, 2010: Shinsaibashi Club Quattro Performance” that is imbued with such a work. It is the transcendental audience recording. Speaking of “men who can’t give up their dreams,” the surprise gig at the preview has become a legend, but that was in 2009. This work is a record of the solo Japan tour that was realized after that. Above, all 4 performances + α. In fact, it was also a visit to Japan to coincide with the DVD release of the movie “The Men Who Can’t Give Up on Dreams”, and an in-store event was held in Tokyo. The main part of the tour is a style of visiting club quattro in various places, and this work is a live album recorded at the Osaka performance.
This work recorded at such a show is the finest with “super”. After all, it was Mr. “West Japan’s strongest taper” who is familiar with our shop. If you record HR / HM, it’s one of the best in Japan … No, it’s one of the best masters in the world. Moreover, this work is of a special grade even in the “strongest” collection. The thick core has no sense of distance, and the guitar, bass, and vocals are in close contact with each other. If you listen microscopically with headphones, you can smell the spatial sensation of the snare sound, but it also gives you the illusion of standing side by side on the stage. It is a transcendental sound that goes on the ground “as if it were a sound board”, including cheers far from the performance sound. From a huge venue to a small live house, he is also a master of recording with the best sound in every situation, but it is the club that demonstrates its true character. Especially (as the name suggests), he is familiar with the clubs in Western Japan, and his great skill is fully demonstrated in this work.

The latest work “THIS IS THIRTEEN”, which was featured in the movie at that time, is also sprinkled there. And the performance to spell such a set is enough. It is full of courage to fully enjoy our time when we finally visited, yet it does not collapse like a young man. In the movie, Lars praised Rob’s drumming, but the drum solo in this film seems to prove that the word is not just a flattery. Indeed, the world of that movie unfolds in front of you.
And it is MC that makes you feel the sense of the times in unexpected places. Looking back on his memories of seeing BLACK SABBATH in Toronto in 1977, he talks about Ozzy, who was crazy with a bottle of whiskey on stage, and Geezer, who was playing terribly. On the other hand, he also touched on Ronnie, saying, “I’m fighting cancer and I’m sure he’ll be back.” Unfortunately, 25 days after this work, Ronnie will not return, but while he foresaw such a future, the scent of an era that he did not know drifts from the speaker.
ANVIL who kept his clumsy belief and gained success in an unexpected way. It is an original recording that allows you to experience the full show that was realized only in such an era. This work is not a soundtrack but a live album (the coolest), but after all many famous scenes flash back and my heart gets hot. By all means, it is a super-realistic masterpiece that you want to enjoy together with the movie DVD.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2010年４月21日：心斎橋クラブクワトロ公演」。その超絶級オーディエンス録音です。『夢を諦めきれない男たち』と言えば試写会でのサプライズ・ギグも伝説化していますが、それは2009年の事。本作はその後に実現した単独ジャパン・ツアーの記録です。まずは、当時のスケジュールを振り返ってみましょう。

以上、全４公演＋α。実は、映画『夢を諦めきれない男たち』のDVD発売に合わせた来日でもあり、東京ではインストア・イベントも実施されました。ツアー本編は各地のクラブクアトロを巡るスタイルで、本作はその大阪公演で記録されたライヴアルバムなのです。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、「超」付きの極上品。何しろ、手掛けたのは当店お馴染みの“西日本最強テーパー”氏。HR/HMを録らせたら日本屈指……いや、全世界的にもズバ抜けた実力を誇る名手中の名手です。しかも、その“最強”コレクションでも本作は特級。極太の芯には距離感などまるでなく、ギターもベースもヴォーカルも完全ド密着。ヘッドフォンで顕微鏡的に聴き込むとスネアの音色に空間感覚を嗅ぎ取ることもできるものの、それもまるでステージ上に並び立っているような錯覚を覚えるほど。演奏音より遠い歓声も含め「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く超絶のサウンドです。巨大会場から小さなライヴハウスまで、あらゆるシチュエーションで極上サウンドで録る達人でもあるわけですが、本領を発揮するのはクラブ。特に（その名の通り）西日本のクラブには精通しており、本作はそのスゴ腕が遺憾なく発揮されているのです。
その極太・荒縄サウンドで描かれるのは、時代を呼び込んだANVILのフルショウ。ここでセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。大代表作『METAL ON METAL』を軸としながら80年代のクラシックスを濃縮還元。そこに映画でも取り上げられていた当時の最新作『THIS IS THIRTEEN』もまぶしている。そして、そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスは気合い十分。遂に訪れた自分たちの時代を満喫するような覇気に溢れ、それでいて若者のように暴れて崩れような事もない。映画ではラーズがロブのドラミングを絶賛していましたが、本作のドラムソロは、その言葉が単なる社交辞令ではないことを証明するかのよう。まさに、あの映画の世界が目の前で繰り広げられていくのです。
そして、意外なところで時代感を感じさせるのがMC。1977年にトロントでBLACK SABBATHを見た思い出を振り返り、ステージでもウィスキーの瓶を持ってベロベロだったオジーや凄まじく弾きまくっていたギーザーの話をする。その一方でロニーについても触れ、「ガンで闘病中だけどきっと戻ってきてくれると信じてるんだ」と話している。残念ながら本作の25日後にロニーは帰らぬ人となってしまうわけですが、そんな未来を予感しながらも知らない時代の薫りがスピーカーから漂ってくるのです。
不器用な信念を貫き、思わぬカタチで成功を手にする事になったANVIL。そんな時代だからこそ実現したフルショウを極上体験できるオリジナル録音です。本作はサントラではなく（最高に格好いい）ライヴアルバムなのですが、やはり名シーンの数々がフラッシュバックして胸が熱くなる。ぜひ、映画DVDと併せて楽しんでいただきたい超リアル名盤なのです。
