ANTHRAX is one corner of the Slash Four Heavenly King and still does not give up the strongest live band. The latest professional shot is here.
Included in this work is the “August 2, 2019 Wacken Open Air” performance. A super multi-camera pro shot that recorded all the details. Speaking of ANTHRAX, Spring “DOWNLOAD JAPAN” came to Japan with SLAYER and showed me how healthy it was. First of all, let’s check the show position in their 2019.

This is the schedule announced so far. Most of them are accompanied by “FAREWELL TOUR” of SLAYER, and both males and females also appeared in Wacken, which celebrated its 30th anniversary. This is the second performance of the summer festival tour “Europe # 2.”
This work, which recorded such a show, is a complete official class. Speaking of Wacken is a symbol of a European metal festival. There are many other huge festivals in terms of scale, but each year it overwhelms other festivals with an intensely high metal purity lineup. Boasting a charismatic popularity from the metal world, it is no exaggeration to say that it is the world’s best heavy metal festival. And another reason that makes Wacken special is the mass production of powerful professional shots. Wakken is special, although pro-shots are also common in other festivals. The camera work that knows the music of the band and the psychology of the metal is extremely accurate and active. Each angle that captures the band becomes a picture, and the audience seating that makes the mosh rage is also cool. For example, while zooming out at a high speed from a shot directly above the drum, it rotates 180 degrees and moves to the audience seating mosh. I think it’s hard to understand what it means even in words, but while adopting such an unexpected acrobatic action, it integrates with the song and expresses the aggression rather than the uncomfortable feeling. The show drawn in such quality is a thrash paradise where the performances in Japan come to life! I came in the set from “Europe # 1” after coming to Japan, but this song has been revived for the first time in 27 years since “LIVE: THE ISLAND YEARS”. METALLICA has come to feel like a big family, MEGADETH is threatening the future due to Dave Mustaine’s pharyngeal cancer, and SLAYER is about to finish the final tour. そんな本作に収められているのは「2019年８月２日ヴァッケン・オープン・エア」公演。その一部始終を記録した超極上マルチカメラ・プロショットです。ANTHRAXと言えば、春の“DOWNLOAD JAPAN”でもSLAYERと共に来日し、健在ぶりを見せつけてくれたばかり。まずは、そんな彼らの2019年の中でショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されているスケジュール。大半は盟友SLAYERの“FAREWELL TOUR”に同行しており、30周年を迎えたヴァッケンにも両雄揃っての出演。夏フェスツアー「欧州#2」の２公演目にあたります。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、完全無欠のオフィシャル級……以上。ヴァッケンと言えば欧州メタル・フェスの象徴。規模的には他にも巨大フェスはいくらでもありますが、毎年強烈にメタル純度の高いラインナップで他フェスを圧倒。世界のメタル者からカリスマティックな人気を誇り、現代では世界一の重金属フェスと言っても過言ではありません。そして、ヴァッケンを特別にしているもう１つの理由は、強力プロショットの量産ぶり。これまた他フェスもプロショット配信が当たり前の時代ではありますが、ヴァッケンは特別。バンドの音楽性とメタル者の心理を知り尽くしたカメラワークは極めて的確でアクティヴ。バンドを捉えるアングル１つひとつが画になり、モッシュが荒れ狂う客席カットもえらくカッコイイ。例えば、ドラムの真上ショットから高速でズームアウトしながらグルッと180度回転し、客席モッシュに移動する。言葉にしてもどんな動きか理解しづらいと思いますが、そんな想像外のアクロバティック・アクションを採用しつつ、それが曲と一体化していて違和感どころかアグレッションを見事に表現している。さらにジョーイ・ベラドナだけでなく、スコット・イアンやフランク・ベロの個別アングルにもたっぷりと尺を採っている事からも、スタッフがANTHRAXファンでノリノリで録っているよく分かる。これこそ、ヴァッケン・クオリティと言われる世界一にメタル愛に充ち満ちたプロショットなのです。
そんなクオリティで描かれるショウは、来日公演が思いっきり甦るスラッシュ・パラダイス！　この日はジョン・デッテが代打でドラムを叩くとも言われ、スラッシュ・マニア達が「幻ドラマー初のフル・プロショットか!?」と色めき立ったのですが、フタを開けて見るとしっかりチャーリー・ベナンテ。もちろん、それが悪かろうハズがなく、猛者ひしめくスラッシュ界でもナンバー１と言われるグルーヴィな快速ビートをブチかましてくれます。そして、フェス用セットだけに約１時間のショート・セットではありますが、そこに濃縮された黄金期の必殺曲は特濃。とは言え、ただのド定番だけでもない。ここでその中身を整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。第１期ジョーイ時代の大代表曲をズラッと並べ、『WORSHIP MUSIC』の「In The End」を挟み込む構成。その濃度は“DOWNLOAD JAPAN”以上でもあるのですが、その中で目を弾くのが「Now It’s Dark」。来日後の「欧州#1」からセット入りしたのですが、この曲はなんと『LIVE: THE ISLAND YEARS』以来、27年ぶりの復活。そんな激レア曲もオフィシャル以上となる世界一のアクティヴ・プロショットで楽しめるのです。
