Bon Scott’s late masterpiece soundboard has been upgraded. Introducing a press CD that permanently preserves the ultimate Gene pre-FM reel sound.
The engraving on this work is “November 12, 1979 Amsterdam performance”. This is a stereo sound board recording recorded in the first act of “HIGHWAY TO HELL Tour” at the end of Bonn. At that time, it was in the middle of a breakthrough, with a countdown towards the tragedy of Bonn. It’s also a very important time, so let’s first look back at the schedule at that time.
● 1979
・ May 8th-July 21st: North America # 1a (45 performances)
“Released” HIGHWAY TO HELL “on July 27”
・ July 28-August 5: North America # 1b (8 performances)
・ August 17-September 1: Europe # 1 (8 performances)
・ September 5th-October 21st: North America # 2 (37 performances)
・ October 26-December 21: Europe # 2 (45 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
● 1980
・ January 16-27: Europe # 3 (10 performances)
《February 19: Bon Scott dies》
This is the history from 1979 to the death of Bonn. The Amsterdam performance of this work is the 15th performance of “Europe # 2”. Speaking of 1979, the official video of the Paris performance “LET THERE BE ROCK: THE MOVIE” is a symbol, but this work was also a concert about a month before that.
This show is also known for being FM broadcast, and has reigned as a big staple for a long time (By the way, the undercard of this day is JUDAS PRIEST immediately after joining Dave Holland. The FM sound source of the day is our “ON AIR 1979 ( You can listen to 3 songs in “Shades 900)”). This work is also the highest peak while being the standard sound board. Its true identity is the pre-FM master. It is not a broadcast master, but is digitized directly from the pre-FM reel master. It is truly the ultimate Gene brand.
In fact, the sound is completely official, yet extremely fresh and low. It is not defeated at all in “LET THERE BE ROCK: THE MOVIE” one month later, but the individuality is clear when compared. While the official version was small and cohesive instead of being well-balanced, this work is a rough-cut, bare-bones. A very thick core rampages without hesitation, and even the finest details are screwed into the brain for drinking. The outline of each note is not a humper, but the punching power of the powerful core is enormous, but it is glossy. It’s a pleasant sound that the groove is approaching and it feels good to be beaten by the beat.
The sound depicts the show at the height of Bonn. It is longer than the old FM sound source, so let’s check it while organizing it.
・ High Voltage: Live Wire (★) / The Jack / High Voltage
・ Dirty Deeds and Hell: Rocker (★)
・ Rock Soul: Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be / Bad Boy Boogie / Whole Lotta Rosie / Let There Be Rock (★)
・ Power Age: Sin City
・ Highway to Hell: Shot Down In Flames / Walk All Over You / Highway To Hell
* Note: “★” marks are songs that could not be heard on the air check sound source.
…… And it looks like this. Although there are 3 more songs than the previous master, it seems that it is not full because “Girls Got Rhythm” was also confirmed in the audience recording on the same day. As a result, the style is like a compressed version of “LET THERE BE ROCK: THE MOVIE”, but it is the performance itself that exudes that dense feeling. It may be due to the low mix, but the rugged ensemble’s rushing power far surpasses the official live album, and the dynamic feeling and groove are strong. Along with that, Bonn’s shout is also super raw. It seems that an overseas review at that time said, “I want to poke my head into an AC / DC amplifier and die”, but I definitely don’t want to do that, but I can fully imagine “If I do it, it might look like this …” can. It’s such a de-class sound.
Even in the history of rock crowded with heroes, there would be no other band that was as strong, charismatic, and rock’n’roll as “AC / DC in the Bonn era”. It is the highest peak of the ultra-real sound board that lets the live performance of the heyday flow into the brain. I would like to launch this work with the addition “This is Rock’n’Roll” into a spacecraft for aliens. A big decision board of such a dimension. Please enjoy it with the permanent storage press CD!
★ The best stereo sound board recording of “November 12, 1979 Amsterdam performance”. A brand that originated from the pre-FM master reel, which is the highest peak in spite of being a classic sound board. The sound is as fresh and low as the official work “LET THERE BE ROCK: THE MOVIE”. In the rough-cut, bare-bones mix, the thick core rampages without hesitation, and even the finest details are screwed into the brain for drinking. “Live Wire,” “Rocker,” and “Let There Be Rock,” which you couldn’t hear on a conventional air check board, are delicious, and the rugged ensemble’s rushing power surpasses that of the official live album. This is the absolute version of Bon Scott’s last years.

The main press CD is a superb sound board album that represents Bon Scott’s later years. It is a masterpiece that permanently preserves the master sound because it is a pre-FM reel. But the better the live album, the more you care about the “other side”. Especially when it comes to AC / DC in the Bonn era. Therefore, we have also prepared a major video masterpiece that is a collection of various professional shots.
This work is packed with 7 types, 25 songs, and a multi-camera pro shot that lasts about 2 hours and 20 minutes from 1976 to 1980. Some of the songs have been formalized in “FAMILY JEWELS” and “PLUG ME IN”, but unlike the official songs that are divided into song units, each pro shot is recorded as the longest version master. It is a video work that you can fully enjoy the “Bon era” that shines brightly in the history of rock. Now let’s take a closer look at each video.
● December 12, 1976 Sydney performance
First of all, the two songs “Baby, Please Don’t Go” and “Problem Child” performed in Sydney three months after the release of the Australian version of “Dirty Deeds and Hell”. Both are unofficial professional shots.
It is a valuable live image of the Mark Evans era, but what is even more fresh is the green and orange striped shirt worn by Angus. Although the image is quite different from now, I’m already doing a striptease, and when it comes to shorts, it’s still the same as it is now (laughs) Angus.
● April 30, 1978 Glasgow performance
Next, 6 songs from the Glasgow performance that was held about a week before the release of “Power Age”. The base has been replaced by Cliff Williams, but more important than that is the live itself. In fact, this live is the most important concert that was the source of the masterpiece “Guitar Murder Case”.
Actually, all the takes are formalized in this video, but in the official DVD, it is divided into song units. Although the quality of this work is not as good as the official take, it is attractive to be able to see all the songs at once. “Dog Eat Dog”, which you can’t hear in “Guitar Murder Case”, is also very cool, but the real pleasure of seeing “the other side of that super-famous board” in a professional shot is the best.
● September 6, 1978 “MIDNIGHT SPECIAL”
The American TV program “MIDNIGHT SPECIAL” that appeared four months after the release of “Power Age”. The live itself is one song of “Sin City”, but it is a must-see before that. That Ted Nugent and Steven Tyler are introducing the band.
● October 28, 1978 “ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE”
Next is “ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE”, two weeks after the release of “Guitar Murder Case”. This is another famous professional shot that represents the Bonn era. 4 songs are separated and recorded in “FAMILY JEWELS” and “PLUG ME IN”, but this work is a 7-song version that you can enjoy through “Live Wire”, “Rocker” and “Let There Be Rock” which are not officially recorded. am. It’s also interesting to start playing without waiting while the show’s moderator is explaining, and to have a bitter face. Although it is a small studio in the station, the enthusiasm that seems to be packed with real fans is tremendous, and it is a famous professional shot that demonstrates the true character of the Bonn era.
● July 13, 1979 “AC / DC COUNTDOWN”
The Dutch TV program “COUNTDOWN” that appeared two weeks before the release of “Highway to Hell”. This is also officialized for about 3 songs, but this work is a long version where you can also watch “Bad Boy Boogie” and “Rocker” which are not officially recorded. The momentum of the band that made the breakthrough historical masterpiece into a thing is tremendous, and it scales up at once. It seems that the call that occurs in the intro of “Whole Lotta Rosie” is not “Angus! Angus!” But “Hey, hey, hey!” I am.
● September 8, 1979 “ROCK POP IN CONCERT”
Finally, “Highway to Hell” was released, and a TV program that appeared while the whole world turned to AC / DC. “Highway To Hell” at “ROCK POP IN CONCERT” in West Germany, which has not been formalized. At the live performance of the studio in the station, the audience of Sakura just claps their hands while sitting. Angus steps forward to parade through the audience, but he stops. It is a transparent program that the essence of the band has not penetrated while it has been promoted and appealed to the general public.
● February 9, 1980 “APLAUSO”
The last is the last professional shot that appeared 10 days before Bonn’s death. Three songs from the Spanish TV program “APLAUSO”. Two songs have been officially announced, but this work is a long version recorded from the opening of the program. The most valuable thing is “Moving Beating Around The Bush”! Actually, it’s a mime, but it’s a song that you can’t watch even if you combine both “FAMILY JEWELS” and “PLUG ME IN”.
And more important than that is the last brave figure of Bonn, who has no way of knowing the impending tragedy. Perhaps because I’m used to watching TV, I don’t feel like I’m crazy because it’s mime, so it’s unprecedentedly quiet. However, it’s astringent, and the expression that stares at me is really cool. Angus’s hatchake is the same on the stage, and the contrast is intense.
