イングヴェイは’92年の「FIRE & ICE」に伴うツアー終了後、キーボードのマッツ・オラウソン以外のメンバーを一新し、シンガーに元LOUDNESSのマイク・ヴェッセーラを迎えた新体制で、’94年に「SEVENTH SIGN」をリリースします。イングヴェイらしい壮大な様式美ナンバーからブルージーな楽曲までバラエティ豊かな楽曲をマイクが優れた歌唱で歌い上げた内容は素晴らしく、ファンからも大きな評価を受け、シーンに”イングヴェイ健在”を大きくアピールしました。続く’95年には、前作を踏襲しつつもよりハードでアグレッシヴな要素を加味した「MAGNUM OPUS」をリリース。名盤の評価が与えられた「SEVENTH SIGN」にはやや及ばなかったものの、マニアからは「ALCATRAZZ時代にも通じるムードがある」と今も支持されています。アルバムリリース後、同年9月に約1ヶ月間をかけて大々的に行われたジャパンツアーでは、大都市だけでなく鹿児島や宇都宮、札幌・岩手など地方都市も精力的にサーキットし、日本のイングヴェイ・ファンに強烈なインパクトを与えました。ジャパンツアーの終了後、イングヴェイは11月から12月いっぱいまで母国スウェーデンを含むヨーロッパツアーを開始します。本作はその中盤に当たるスウェーデン・スンツヴァル公演を、放送音源を元にしたステレオ・ラインソースで収めています。
放送音源ならではの明瞭な分離感と公式感覚あるミックスとバランスは素晴らしい聴き応えで、オープニングの「Vengeance」からダイナミックな演奏を優れた明度で聴く事が出来ます。オーディエンス録音ではイングヴェイのギターにいつも埋もれがちなキーボードが良く聴こえるのも本作のような良質ライン録音の特徴です。放送される事を意識しているのか、この日のイングヴェイは（’90年代としては）どの場面においても普段以上に正確なピッキングで弾いており、本来のイングヴェイらしい実力を発揮しています。特に前述した「Vengeance」や続く「No Love Lost」、さらにお約束の「Far Beyond The Sun」などは、ソロのアレンジも’80年代を思い出させるムードが漂っています（イングヴェイが母国語で交えるMCもスウェーデンらしい雰囲気を感じさせ、ちょっとした聴き所となっています）。ここで聴ける楽曲は新作「MAGNUM OPUS」と前作「SEVENTH SIGN」からのナンバーを中心に取り上げられており、今では定番曲以外あまり演奏されなくなったマイク在籍時の楽曲をふんだんに聴けるのは嬉しいポイント。そのマイクもライヴの全編を通してパワフルかつエモーショナルなパフォーマンスを披露していて、エネルギッシュな「Never Die」や感動的な「Forever One」での歌唱は堂々たるものがあります。ジェフ・スコット・ソートとも違った骨太な歌を聴かせる「I Am A Viking」も見事です。キーボードのマッツ・オラウソンだけでなく、後にマイケル・シェンカーの元でも活躍するリズムセクションも良い仕事をしていて、バリー・スパークスのテクニカルなベースソロ、パワフルなドラミングで聴き手を圧倒するシェーン・ガラースのプレイも圧巻です。後半に「The Only One」・「Fire In The Sky」と連発される「MAGNUM OPUS」ナンバーは本当に強烈です！
本編は約55分間の収録ですが、後半には嬉しいボーナストラックとして、スンツヴァル公演直前のライヴに当たる11月15日のフィンランド・ヘルシンキ公演から5トラックを追加収録しています。本編サウンドボード未収録の「Rising Force」に加え、ショウ中盤における「Overture 1622」・「Trilogy Suite OP:5」・「Red House」などイングヴェイの長大なソロパートを、ダイレクト感と見通し・臨場感に優れたオーディエンス録音で楽しめます。ジョー・リン・ターナー時代の定番曲に、ファンが一番聴きたいイングヴェイのソロパートをフィーチャーしたセクションは、本編に劣らない本作の大きな聴き所としてファンを楽しませます。
’90年代だけに限らず、イングヴェイのキャリア史上においても傑作となった「SEVENTH SIGN」と「MAGNUM OPUS」ナンバーをフィーチャーし、マイク・ヴェッセーラ在籍当時でもベストといえるセットは素晴らしく、全編に渡って聴き応えは満点です。本編となるスンツヴァルでのサウンドボード音源は長らく再発もされておらず、現在は滅多に見かけない音源となっているだけに、より優良なマスターを用いた今回のプレスCD化はファンにとって嬉しいニュースと言えるでしょう。本編とボーナス合計で79分間のボリュームも文句なし！ 全てのイングヴェイ・ファン必聴必携の一本をどうぞお見逃しありませんように！
