つい先々週の2月2日、渋谷公会堂で一夜限りで行われたイングヴェイ・マルムスティーン一夜限りの来日公演を、質感豊かな極上音質で完璧に捉えたオリジナル録音タイトルが今週末に緊急登場致します!! オセアニアツアーが急遽延期で危ぶまれた日本公演でしたが無事に開催され、ステージ右半分にマーシャル群でドラム・ベース・キーボードが左半分という変則的な立ち位置という、まさに昨年GUITAR GODS TOUR 2014の日本公演版とも言うべき素晴らしいステージを堪能させてくれました。録音者は昨年、サウンドボード級の秀逸な録音で多くのファンを驚愕させたマイケル・シェンカーの東京公演決定盤『MICHAEL SCHENKER’S TEMPLE OF ROCK – BRIDGE THE GAP IN TOKYO: 2ND NIGHT (ZODIAC 061)』を収録された方で(他にもイエスの「TRILOGY」等、数多くの名録音を実現させています。)、今回彼はその卓越した録音技術で先日のインギーの鮮烈なギタープレイを完璧に捉えていたのです! 録音は渋谷公会堂のセンターブロック4列目という好位置からの収録となっており、その位置条件の優位性をそのまま具現化した弾力ある中低音の威力とサウンド全体の見通しの良さ、そして何よりギターの出音の近さが鋭く際立つサウンドとなっています。またエレキ・アコースティック両ギターの質感豊かな響きの艶とボーカルのストレートな伸びの良さも特筆され、劣化が一切無いマスター録音特有の振幅の深さと透明度を併せ持ったタフなサウンドに激しく心躍るタイトルとなっています!!

ショウは暗転の中スモークが吹き出し、マーシャル・アンプ15台の璧の前でインギーが指鳴らしを兼ねた「Voodoo Chile」を軽くかましてから「Rising Force」に突入しますが、鋭いギターが張りのある歌唱と共に一気に飛び出してくるディスク・スタートとなっています。ソロの切れ味も高く、キーボードとの掛け合いも鋭利な2本のナイフが交差する様な緊張感があり、溜めをたっぷり効かせたコーダも非常に印象的です。ちなみに今回のボーカルはそのキーボードのニック・マリノが兼務していますが、彼の声も近い音で録れているのも特筆されるでしょう。しかし本格的に演奏と録音が高いレベルにあると確信するのは「Spellbound」からでしょう。粒揃いなギターや疾走感に溢れたアンサンブルが放つエネルギーは格別なものがあり、それが音域豊かな音像の中を駆け足で高みに上ってゆく様子は圧倒的です。「Damnation Game」もインギーらしいリフとメロディの綴れ折りが鮮やかな音像で飛び出す一曲で、キーボードとギターのユニゾンがこの日どの様に対話し、どの様にギターソロが歌い上げたかが見通しの良いサウンドで次々と報告されます。人気曲「Repent」も終始全開のインギー節が極上の音で駆け抜け、スピードと知性に溢れる音楽が間近にやってくる喜びで充たしてくれるでしょう。この曲はインギー自身がボーカルを取っていますが、その生々しく歌声もよく録れていますので是非御注目下さい。トラック(8)のメドレーもこの夜を大いに涌かせたシーンです。ギターが過去の名旋律を華麗に発しながらリズムと融合する様子が威力あるサウンドで展開し、現在のインギーがまだまだ野心を失っていない挑戦的なミュージシャンである事が強く伝わってくる一幕となっています。「Seventh Sign」はその旋律の膨らみの中にオリジナルの弾き手のみが持つ音の求心力が感じられ、録音レベルの秀逸さと共に質の高い演奏が耳を潤してゆきます。曲後半に入るお馴染みの”Seventh Signコール”も見通しの良い音で拾っており、この公演を待ち焦がれた観客とバンドがこの夜、どれほど高い結び付きがあったかもダイレクトに伝わってくるでしょう。そしてそのファンを更に驚かせたのがアルカトラズ時代の「Kree Nakoorie」でした。ここでは瞬発力の高い演奏が広い音域の中で躍動する姿を克明に捉えていて、現布陣ならではのフレッシュで見事ななパフォーマンスに興奮と感嘆の声を上げる筈です。(11)で聴けるこの日最初のギターソロは弱音の微細な音まで拾った間近なサウンドで迫り、お馴染みのバッハのBWV1067・ロ短調の第7曲”バディヌリー”の他、インギーらしいクラシックへのオマージュが耳を存分に潤します。「Far Beyond The Sun」も昔の様に間隙の全てに音符を詰め込むのではなく、伸ばす部分は全音でしっかり伸ばすという昨今の奏法が克明に捉えられています。しかし後半ではマシンガンの如き高速フレーズをバラ撒いていて、静と動が入り乱れる激しい表現対比の中に曲とインギー自身が今もなお進化し続けている事を感じ取れるでしょう。

ディスク2冒頭は再びギターソロで、ここはアコースティックによるソロシーンです。昨年のGUITAR GODSツアー同様、固定式のアコギで披露されたそれは弾力を感じる音像の中で現れ、ギターが柔らかく歌う響きの魅力をストレートな音像で御堪能戴けます。この終曲部が「Dreaming (Tell Me)」にシフトする様子も絶品で、ここでは88年当時の様な夢見がちな甘美な旋律というよりも、どこか厳しさを求める旋律が切々と綴られる様子に心打たれるに違いありません。トラック(4)もGUITAR GODS 2014でやっていた様に3つの曲のメドレーとなっておりますが、ミドルテンポの曲では濃密なサウンドでアンサンブルが飛び出し、スピーディな曲では伸びのある高音域の中でギターが歌う姿をこの録音はバッチリ拾っています。トラック(5)は終始弾きまくりのギターソロとなっており、多くのインギー・ファンが求めていたシーンが展開。「Trilogy Suite OP:5」や「Krakatau」を断片的に挿入しながら手応えのある濃密な弾き込みがシャープな音像で飛び出し、その興奮に手に汗握ること請け合いの8分間です。冒頭から派手にギターを泣かせるアンコールの「Black Star」は3分06秒付近~19秒ではインギーが暫くディレイの効き具合を確認しながら進行する様子が生々しく、曲中盤でリズムが引っ込んでギターがフィーチャーされるシーンもこの夜のインギーが暗闇からどう音楽を拾い上げてゆくかが大きな聴きどころとなっています。「I’ll See The Light…」はスピーディに曲が進行しながら上方に伸びてゆくボーカルと、中央に腰を据えながら響くギターとが重なった立体感のある音像でお愉しみ戴けます。またその音像によって現バンドが放つ音のフォーメーションの良さも伺えるでしょう。終曲後のギタークラッシュは何度もギターを振り回し、マーシャルヘ乗せてハウリング&フィードバック、更にステージ上空へ放り投げて床に叩きつけ、弦を引きちぎりながら観客席へ投げ込まれるという壮絶なものでしたが、ギターが最後の悲鳴を上げて音が砕け散るその様子も本作は確実に捉えているうえ、終演を告げる場内アナウンスまで録音が続いていますのでドキュメンタリーとしても申し分の無い内容となっているのが嬉しいポイントです。

本作を聴いて恐らく誰もが感じるであろう事は「まだまだこれからが本番なんだけどな!」という音楽エネルギーの大きな余力です。僅か1回限り、しかも平日(月曜日)という今回の来日公演はファンもメンバー達も歯痒いところでしたが、でもそれだけにこの一夜の為に日本全国から集まったファンはいつも以上に熱い思いを寄せて集結していた筈ですし、恐らくインギーもそれを察して熱演していたのはこの公演を御覧になった方なら記憶に新しいところでしょう。昨年のGUITAR GODSツアーでもそうでしたが、最近のインギーは単に高速フレーズをばら撒くだけでなく、音を休めるべきところではしっかりと休ませ、そのうえで自分が出来るギター・スタイルの可能性を試しているフシが伺えます。今回の日本公演もギターヒーローとしての彼ではなく、更なる高みを見据える一ギタリストの挑戦として捉えると更に大きな流れが見えてくる演奏が多かったと思いますし、実際、本作を聴けばそれに改めて気付けるシーンが多い筈です。それゆえ本タイトルは今回の一夜限りの来日公演を秀逸な音質でノーカット収録したメモリアルな一枚であるだけでなく、インギーという一ギタリストの最新の姿への接近と挑戦に触れられるタイトルともなっているのです。好評ZODIACレーベルがお送りするインギー最新作、今週末のリリースにどうぞ御期待下さい!!
