8人イエスによる1991年8月8日のマウンテン・ビュー公演を完全収録した3枚組。何と驚くべきことにDAT録音によるサウンドボード音源がマスターとなっており、驚異的な音質で聴くことが出来る。8人という大所帯からところ狭しと音が飛び出してくるものを、見事にまとめられているのが素晴らしい。ジョン・アンダーソンのイエス・ビッグ・バンド構想により生まれた、歴代の終了メンバー総出演による8人イエスは、アルバム「結晶」を発表した後にワールドツアーを敢行した。相変わらずの不仲説や、スケジュール調整などで不可能と言われた8人ものイエスメンたちによる複雑怪奇な演奏は、今も伝説に残っている。そして80本に及ぶツアーの最終日となったのが、この日の公演であった。この日はオフィシャルにビデオ・シューティングされ、「イエスショウズ ’91」と言うビデオ作品として発売された。改めて冷静に聴いてみると、意外と頑張っているのが、「ロンリーハートを輩出した90125イエスのメンバーだったトレアヴァー・ラビンやトニー・ケイたちであり、更にABWHで見事イエス復帰を果たしたビル・ブラッフォードのエレクトリック・ドラムの固いサウンドもこの時期のイエスにとってはとても面白い効果を与えている。本作を聴くと、アラン・ホワイトの叩く生ドラムと、ブル・ブラッフォードのエレ・ドラムの音がはっきりと分かれて聴こえるため、曲によってお互いの役割の違いや、主導権争いなど、殆ど遊んでいる状態なのか判る。なんと「Changes」はイントロがカットされているにもかかわらず、世界初登場音源である。トレヴァーの歌声も妙に懐かしい。デジタルだけあって、クリスのベースも程良い低域まで見事に収録されており、「The Fish」等のソロパートでは迫力のベースソロを聴くことができるし、細かいフレーズや小技を確認出来るのも嬉しい。クライマックスは勿論、20分もの大作「悟りの境地」である。サウンドボードによる静けさの中で、8人のメンバーによる死闘とも言える熱き戦いが繰り広げられる。ジョン・アンダーソンの天使のような歌声に導かれて、怒涛の大団円へと突進していく様は一度、体験して欲しい。レコードよりも分厚い音の壁が覆い被さってくる素晴らしいパフォーマンスである。ただただ凄い。この8人イエスでは、間違いなく最高傑作。
