本作は、そんな“Hide Your Sheep Tour 1982-1983”の最強盤として君臨してきた「1982年10月27日モントリオール公演」のオーディエンス・アルバムです。もしかしたらVAN HALENマニアのあなたも、この日程・会場にあまりに馴染みがないかもしれません。実は、この音源は“11月18日ハンプトン公演”として知られる既発「EVERYBODY WANTS A VIRGIN」の大本となった録音。この度、かのツアー代表作のマスタークローンを独自ルートで入手しました。「あれ？『EVERYBODY WANTS A VIRGIN』はサウンドボードじゃない？」と思われた方は鋭い。より若いジェネレーションのクリア・サウンドで聴き直したところ、実はハイパーなオーディエンス録音だったことが判明したのです！

既発ではフェイドで始まっていた冒頭もカットインから入ったり、収録時間が長いことからもマスタークローンなのは明らかですが、何よりサウンドの鮮度の良さが段違い！　既発の時点で“サウンドボード”と勘違いされたことからも、録音の緻密さが分かろうというものですが、さらにその明度がグッと上がっている。既発では右チャンネルが極端にハイ落ちしていた「Ice Cream Man」も劣化なしです！　本作では、そこへさらに丁寧にデジタル・リマスタリング。いくつかの曲で瞬間的な欠けがあったり、音圧が途中で変わるなどの欠点はマスター起因ゆえに“無かったこと”にはできないのですが、その違和感を最小限に低減。大本マスターの鮮度はそのままに、その味わいをストレートに感じられる最高品質に仕上げたのです。
ハイパーぶりが加速したサウンドでぶちかまされるのは、まさにノリにノるザ・ビッグＶ！　軽快にカッ飛ばすビートの上を暴れ回るエディの鮮烈なこと！　さすが長年サウンドボード認定されてきただけはあり、細かなピッキングまで耳に突き刺さるようです。そして、ショウ中盤で畳み掛ける「DIVER DOWN」の新曲群がまた凄い。実に12曲中９曲が披露される大盤振る舞いなのですが、バラエティ豊かな曲に乗せたデイヴのショウ運びはますます鋭さを増し、まさに縦横無尽のやりたい放題。特に「The Full Bug」では、速いテンポの中でも声色をコロコロ変える役者っぷりを感じさせ、シャウトは鋭く、ブルースハープのソロも炸裂させる。それに応える観客の大熱狂も凄まじく、「新作だよ？　そんなに好きなの？」とCD越しに訊いてみたくなる（笑）ほどです。今となっては次作「1984」の陰に隠れがちなアルバムですが、さすがは全米３位の旬を謳歌している記録だけはあります。
