The legendary first visit to Japan, which was realized at the final stage of “WAR TOUR 1982-1983”. The best album that recorded the pattern is the world’s first appearance.
This work includes “November 26th and November 1983: Shibuya public hall” performance. It is a superb audience album that was made CD directly from an unreleased original cassette of the prestigious “Kinney”. What is inspiring more than anything is in the beautiful “Kinney Magic”, let’s first check the position of the show from the first legendary schedule of “legend”.

Over, all six performances. Speaking of U2’s live in Japan, where a huge dome or arena comes to mind, only the first visit to Japan is a hall class. I was able to experience a luxurious show that I can not think about now. Four performances took place in Tokyo, and this work completely records 2 consecutive performances of Shibuya public hall.
The biggest point of such work is the magic sound of the prestigious “Kinney”. I’ve been reprinting Kinney recordings from original cassettes with a number of bands / artists, but this work is also a superb item that makes the prestigious signs even more brilliant. Anyway, the crystal clear, the crystal clear air feeling is wonderful. It is not a type called “just like a sound board”, but it is not a drawback but a beauty point. While the “core” of musical sound / singing voice is as strong as comparable to line recording, the “ringing” wrapped slightly glows glitteringly. Besides, it is super clear because it is extremely transparent so detailed detail. Normally, audience recording tends to weaken the bass, but this work is clearly one note of Adam’s bass. Everything is clearer from the sharpness of the rising to the swelling of the sound, and the van which disappears in the void.
Of course, the base is only one example. Rally is three-dimensional so that the structure of the drum kit can be seen, picking of the edge, Bono’s breathing is realistic but also clear. Kinney sound just like “Magic” goes through the whole performance and whole story. In addition, it fits the U 2 of that time when this sound was spirited as post punk. While playing a breakthrough in “WAR”, they were hot rocky feelings of rock bandism. While wearing a unique coolness, it rocks like a fiery rock. It is a crystal clear, but it exquisitely synchronizes with the raw kinney sound.
The show drawn with that sound is just a legend. First of all, the official board “UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY” which was only the latter half of the show is as much overwhelming as a different large volume. The set with 6 songs “BOY” + “WAR” 6 songs is the best of the first three works, plenty of original songs such as “Twilight” “Surrender” “Seconds” “I Fall Down” Especially “I Fall Down” can not be heard even with “U 2 LIVE AT RED ROCKS” expanded by DVD. Besides, it’s not only rare. In “I Fall Down” of “November 26 (Disk 1)”, in the middle part, playing riffs of “Smoke On The Water” with edges at DEEP PURPLE, Bono “Smoke on the water, fire in the sky ♪ Singing out. I do not know if someone told me the popularity of Japanese purple, or the story of “MADE IN JAPAN”, but it is a moment full of Japan.
In addition to the first visit to MC, there is plenty of air feeling. For example, Bono puts an MC after “Twilight”, but in “November 26 (Disc 1)” “Today is my 3rd live performance in Japan, I was reluctantly appeared on the TV show on weekends But U2 did not come for show business, not for record companies nor for management, I came from wanting to play here. ” This TV appearance is a music program live on late-night frame of “November 22”. They refused Mime and stuck to live performance, but they got out of the guitar only with noise due to equipment trouble. Bono also felt quite upsetting and pointing at the edge as much as “do something” and struggle to cover somehow with ad libs vocals, but it is irreversible. The whole part of it has flowed into Japan during live broadcasting. I was persistent even in this work whether it was so shocking, “I really did not want to go out on TV” MC. For us Japanese, it was the only opportunity for “U2 to watch in the hall” for the first time in Japan. 本作に収められているのは「1983年11月26日＋27日：渋谷公会堂」公演。かの名門“キニー”の未発表オリジナル・カセットからダイレクトにCD化した極上オーディエンス・アルバムです。何よりも感動的なのは、麗しき“キニー・マジック”にあるわけですが、まずは“伝説”の初来日スケジュールからショウのポジションを確認してみましょう。

以上、全６公演。U2のライヴ・イン・ジャパンと言えば、巨大なドームやアリーナが思い浮かぶところですが、初来日だけはホールクラス。今では考えられないような贅沢なショウを体験できたのです。東京では４公演行われ、本作はそのうち渋谷公会堂２連続公演を完全収録しているのです。
そんな本作最大のポイントは、名門“キニー”のマジック・サウンド。これまでも数々のバンド／アーティストでキニー録音をオリジナル・カセットから復刻して参りましたが、本作も名門の看板を一層輝かせる極上品。とにかく、クリスタル・クリアに透き通った空気感が素晴らしい。「まるでサウンドボード」と呼ぶタイプではありませんが、それは欠点ではなく美点。楽音／歌声の“芯”はライン録音に匹敵するほど骨太でありながら、うっすら・ほんのり纏った“鳴り”が艶やかに彩る。しかも、それが極めて透き通っているために細やかなディテールまで超鮮明。通常、オーディエンス録音は低音が弱みになりがちですが、本作はアダムのベースも１音１音がクッキリ。それも立ち上がりの鋭さから音の膨らみ、そして虚空に消えてゆくヴァイヴまですべてがハッキリしています。
もちろん、ベースは１つの例でしかない。ラリーはドラムキットの構造が見えるほど立体的ですし、エッジのピッキング、ボノの息づかいもリアルでありながら鮮明。まさに“マジック”としか言いようのないキニー・サウンドが丸ごと２公演・全編を貫く。しかも、このサウンドがポストパンクとして気を吐いていた当時のU2に殊更に合う。『WAR』でブレイクスルーを果たしつつも、当時の彼らはロックバンド然とした荒々しい躍動感が熱い。独特な冷気を纏いつつ、それが烈火のように燃えさかるロック。それがクリスタル・クリアでありながら生々しいキニー・サウンドと絶妙にシンクロするのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるショウは、まさに伝説。まず何より、ショウの後半部だけだった公式盤『UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY』とはまるで違う大ボリュームが圧倒的。『BOY』６曲＋『WAR』６曲を軸としたセットは初期３作のベストであり、「Twilight」「Surrender」「Seconds」「I Fall Down」といった当時ならではの名曲もたっぷり。特に「I Fall Down」はDVD化で拡張された『U2 LIVE AT RED ROCKS』でも聴けません。しかも、珍しいだけじゃない。「11月26日（ディスク１）」の「I Fall Down」では、中間部でエッジがDEEP PURPLEの「Smoke On The Water」のリフを奏で、ボノが「Smoke on the water, fire in the sky♪」と歌い出す。誰かに日本のパープル人気を聞いたのか、それとも『MADE IN JAPAN』の故事が浮かんだのかは分かりませんが、実に日本らしさ溢れる瞬間です。
さらにMCにも初来日ならでは空気感がいっぱい。例えば「Twilight」終演後にボノがMCを入れるのですが、「11月26日（ディスク１）」では「今日が日本での３回目のライブなんだ。不本意ながら週末にテレビショウに出演したんだが、U2はショウビジネスのために来たんじゃない。レコード会社のためでもマネジメントのためでもない。ここで演奏したいから来たんだ」と語る。このテレビ出演とは「11月22日」の深夜枠で生放送された音楽番組のこと。彼らはマイムを拒否して生演奏にこだわったのですが、機材トラブルでギターからガリガリとしたノイズしか出ない状態になってしまうのです。ボノもかなり動揺して「何とかしてくれ」とばかりにエッジの方を指差したり、アドリブのボーカルでなんとかカバーしようと奮闘するものの、回復不能。その一部始終が生放送で日本中に流れてしまったのです。それがよほどショックだったのか、本作でもしつこく「本当は（テレビに）出たくなかった」とMCしているのです。しかし、これは初めてのアジア、初めての日本で一番良い姿を見せたい、良い音楽を聴かせたい、という気持ちの表れでもある。本作に込められた熱演がそれを証明しているのです。

私たち日本人にとって、唯一“ホールで観るU2”の機会だった初来日。そこには“世界の超大物”の階段を駆け上がりつつ、生々しいロックバンドの炎が燃えさかっていた若き彼らの姿がありました。それを“キニー・マジック”で丸ごと２公演も記録しきった逸品。日本の洋楽史にとって……いえ、世界にとって文化遺産となる本生の記録。どうぞ、永久保存プレス２CDで存分にお楽しみください。
