“スティーヴン・タイラー、日本のクラブで吠える！”……そんな千載一遇の機会を収めきった極上ライヴアルバムが登場です。1977年にAEROSMITHが初来日してから丸40年。初めてのソロアルバムを引っさげた来日公演が実現しました。本作は、そのうち「2017年４月８日Zepp Osaka Bayside公演」を収めた超・極上オーディエンス録音です。まずは、初ソロの日本公演をチェックしておきましょう。

このように、全２公演。世間の耳目を集めたメインは日本武道館公演だったわけですが、実は最大のポイントはむしろ大阪。何しろ、彼にとって初めて“日本のクラブ”で行われたショウだったのです。
そんな40年に一度の機会を記録したのは、“西日本最強テーパー”氏。西日本のあらゆるライヴスペースを知り尽くしていると噂される名手中の名手ですが、今回の現場“Zepp Osaka Bayside”は、今年２月に誕生したばかりの新会場。さしもの“最強”氏にとっても初めて足を踏み入れる会場だけあって、いつものクオリティは難しい……と思いきや！　なんと彼のコレクションでもトップクラスの強力サウンドに仕上がりました！
実のところ、これには当の“最強”氏も驚いたそうです。何しろ、会場の構造も分からなければ、音響も初体験。スウィート・ポジションも機材セッティングも手探りで臨むしかなかった。いつもの確信はなく、これまで東西の“Zepp”で培った経験を総動員して「多分、これでイケるはずだ」……そんなカンがすべて大当たりしたとしか思えない。“最強”氏は自分に厳しい録音家で、なかなか自作に「自信作」とは言わない方なのですが、今回ばかりは「これは良く録れた」と満足げにご提供くださったのです。
実際、本作のサウンドは“最強”氏の名声を高める凄まじいもの。いつも通りに「まるでサウンドボード」と呼ぶに相応しいダイレクト感が素晴らしい。録音ポジションはまだ秘密だそうですが、この直球感はこれまで以上……。その上で“現場感”までもが凄い。例えば、オフィシャルのライヴアルバムなら直撮りサウンドボードの味気ないサウンドにエフェクト等のトリートメントを重ねて“磨き”をかけてリッチなサウンドにするものです。ところが、本作は本生100％の現場感だけでリッチ・サウンドが実現している。別の喩えをするなら、まるで会場の天井からアンビエントマイクを釣り下げるクラシック・コンサートのようなニュアンス。そんな格調高いオーディエンス録音なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるショウは、希代のカリスマ：スティーヴン・タイラーの巨大なエナジーが狭いクラブに濃縮されている。初のソロアルバム『WE’RE ALL SOMEBODY FROM SOMEWHERE』の新曲や映画のテーマソング「Love Lives」も披露されます（「SPACE BATTLE SHIP ヤマモトだっけ？」というMCが可笑しい）が、それと同時にAEROSMITHのレパートリーが過半数を占める。しかも、バックバンドLOVING MARY BANDはオリジナルに限りなく近いアレンジながら、バンジョー、マンドリン、スチールギターも導入したアクセントが新鮮。狭い会場が“新しいけど、懐かしい”名曲群のラッシュに揺さぶられまくるのです。
それだけの濃密感でありながら「まるでサウンドボード」な楽音と歌声が微塵も揺るがない。間近客の絶叫や話し声が皆無だと言うのに、遠いけれど熱く沸き上がる歓声が異様にリアル。ただのオーディエンスではなく、ただの超高音質でもない。ある意味で公式さえも超えた“ライヴ・アルバムの理想”を体現した１本なのです。

セットもアンサンブルもすべてが貴重。その上、初めてのソロ来日、初めてのクラブギグ、そして完成したばかりの会場……。“初物”づくしの未知感、集中力が奇跡的に噛み合った超・極上のライヴアルバムです。録音の女神が微笑んだ２枚組。その笑顔とスティーヴンの歌声を永久に残すプレス２CDに詰めるだけで詰め込んで、あなたのお手元へ！

と言うわけで、本作は本編プレス２CDと同じ「2017年４月８日Zepp Osaka Bayside公演」のオーディエンス・ショット。ただし、一気貫通のフルショットではなく、１-２曲単位のベスト・ショットを集めたコンピレーション・スタイルです。そのため「アングルは○○」「距離感は◇◇」と一概には言えないのですが、クオリティは言える。「どれも極上」です。現代はデジタル機材の発達でどんな人でも撮影可能になったわけですが、本作は１曲１曲を精査したベスト・ショットばかり。残念ながら「Love Lives」「My Own Worst Enemy」の２曲は満足なクオリティが登場していないので全曲ではありませんが、“ほぼ”ショウの全容が極上クオリティで味わえるのです。
そして、そのクオリティで目撃するクラブショウは、最高に熱い。巨大なスタジアムとはまるで違い、最前列の腕が触れそうなほどに近い。各曲のアングルも狭いだけにやけに近く、スティーヴンがプロショットかのようにドアップ。近くに歩いてくると、画面に手を伸ばして触りたくなるほど“そこにいる”のです。そのスティーヴンがまた絶好調。歌声の素晴らしさは本編プレス２CDでも分かりましたが、セクシーで茶目っ気たっぷりのアクションも69歳とは到底思えません。
さらに映像だから分かるのがステージの狭さ。客席との近さもさることながら、バンド内のコミュニケーションもやけに親密なのです。アイコンタクトを交わし、寄り添ってマイクを共にする“バンド感”。AEROSMITHでも観られる光景ではありますが、メンバーに向かって走り寄るのではなく、振り返るとそこにいる間近感。かつてのAEROSMITHがそうであったであろう濃密な空間を、画面いっぱいに目撃できるのです。
そして、やっぱり凄いのが観客。AEROSMITHの名曲群や「Come Together」「Train Kept A-Rollin’」等々で大合唱が渦を巻く。スタジアムのような巨大なスペクタクルではなく、狭い空間にパンパンに詰まった密度が凄い。その真っ直中に立ちながら、スティーヴンの歌声がクリアに届くサウンドも素晴らしいのです。

これがスティーヴンのクラブギグ。日本では到底ムリだと思っていた密着感・密室感に身を置ける極上映像です。本編プレス２CDの向こう側に広がる光景を見せてくれるだけでなく、その奇跡の空間に浸りきれる２つとない映像作品です。どうぞ、本編プレス２CDと共に、“肌触りのスティーヴン・タイラー”を存分にお楽しみください。
