The UFO’s “ NO PLACE TO RUN ” tour in the first half of 1980 will be settled after the U.S. tour ends in mid-May, and the band will produce the next work and, as usual, the Reading Festival scheduled to appear in late August I started to prepare for However, in June of 1980, Paul Raymond, who supported the band sound base with keyboard and side guitar, withdrew and joined Michael Schenker’s M.S.G. The band welcomes John Slowman to the emergency with Paul Chapman’s introduction, and will continue working on a new album in July with Slowman taking charge of the keyboard. However, as the band was looking for a player who could take charge of the stage as well as the keyboard, as well as the side guitar and chorus, Slowman remained on the album, and Neil Carter of former WILD HOSES as Raymond’s official replacement. Has joined the band. The UFO played the role of headliner at the Reading Festival on August 23 with a new lineup including Carter (the next day’s headliner is WHITESNAKE).
The band will complete a new work that will become “THE WILD, THE WILLING AND THE INNOCENT” in September, and will begin a large-scale European tour in October prior to the album release. Bands that showed a strong enthusiasm for the new album will be actively promoting. As part of the November 26, 1980 performance in Dortmund, Germany, this work was recorded for the German music program “ROCKPALAST”.
ROCKPALAST is a treasure trove of precious and excellent live images, as represented by that RAINBOW’s “LIVE IN MUNICH 1977”. This video is no exception, with the highest sound quality and image quality that convinces the viewer of master quality, and complete recording of rare professional shots from the Chapman era over 75 minutes. Images with clear outlines and little bleeding are also levels that make you think that official release is also possible!

な が ら Although it is a completely different type from Michael Schenker, Paul Chapman playing B.C.RICH is cool in both technique staging. He might be a modest player, but the stage shines brilliantly and isn’t inferior to the screen alongside the powerful action of the wild Pete Way. The bluesy singing that Phil Mog listens to in “No Place To Run” and so on is also full of individuality, and their presence is more prominent when viewed with excellent images like this work. Chapman’s play is clear even in Michael’s famous songs such as “Lights Out”, “Doctor Doctor” and “Rock Bottom”, and the band sound has a solid response.
UFOs gradually lose their momentum from the peak around ’80 to ’81, but at this point still powerful performances unique to them, catchy musicality oriented to British wetness and the American market You can enjoy with the finest music group that has both. UFOが1980年前半に行った「NO PLACE TO RUN」ツアーは5月半ばの全米ツアー終了をもって一段落し、バンドは次回作の製作と、例年通り8月下旬に出演が予定されているレディング・フェスティバルへの準備に取り掛かりました。しかしその矢先の’80年6月、キーボードとサイドギターでバンド・サウンドの土台を支えていたポール・レイモンドが脱退し、マイケル・シェンカーのM.S.G.へ参加するという出来事が起きます。バンドはこの緊急事態にポール・チャップマンの紹介でジョン・スローマンを迎え入れ、7月中はこのスローマンがキーボードを担当する形で新作アルバムの製作を継続します。しかしバンドとしてはキーボードだけでなく、サイドギターやコーラスまでステージでマルチに担当できるプレイヤーを求めていた事から、スローマンはアルバムでの参加に留まり、レイモンドの正式な後任プレイヤーとして元WILD HOSESのニール・カーターがバンドに加わる事となりました。UFOはカーターを含む新ラインナップで8月23日のレディング・フェスティバルに出演し、ヘッドライナーの大役を果たしました（なお、翌24日のヘッドライナーがWHITESNAKEです）。
バンドは9月に「THE WILD, THE WILLING AND THE INNOCENT」となる新作を仕上げると、10月からはアルバムリリースに先立って大規模なヨーロッパツアーを開始。新作アルバムへ強い意気込みを見せていたバンドは積極的なプロモーション活動を行います。本作に収録された’80年11月26日のドイツ・ドルトムント公演もその一環として、ドイツの音楽番組”ROCKPALAST”のために収録されたライヴです。
ROCKPALASTといえば、あのRAINBOWの「LIVE IN MUNICH 1977」に代表されるように、貴重で優れたライヴ映像の宝庫。本映像もその例に漏れず、観る者にマスター・クオリティを確信させる最高の音質と画質で、チャップマン時代のレアなプロショット映像を75分に渡って完全収録しています。はっきりとした輪郭とにじみの少ない画像は、こちらもオフィシャル・リリース可能ではないかと思わせるレベルです！
この時点では「THE WILD, THE WILLING AND THE INNOCENT」がリリースされる約2ヶ月前ですが、セットリストには「Chains Chains」や「Long Gone」がすでに取り上げられています。これら’80年代ＵＦＯを代表する名ナンバーを最高の形で楽しめるのはファン冥利に尽きるというもの。特に叙情性とドラマ性を両立した「Long Gone」は、最初期の演奏からすでに名曲としてのポテンシャルを発揮しています！
ショウ中盤以降は「NO PLACE TO RUN」ツアーの要素を残しており、「Cherry」から「Only You Can Rock Me」の流れ、「Love To Love」と「Mystery Train」の組み合わせを楽しむ事ができます（その中間に位置する新曲「Making Moves」も必聴です）。
マイケル・シェンカーとは全く異なるタイプながら、B.C.RICHを弾きまくるポール・チャップマンはテクニック・ステージング共にクールです。彼は地味な印象があるプレイヤーかもしれませんが、ステージ映えするたたずまいはなかなか見事で、野性的なピート・ウェイの力強いアクションと並んでも画面的に何ら見劣りしていません。フィル・モグが「No Place To Run」等で聴かせるブルージーな歌唱も個性に溢れており、彼らメンバーそれぞれの存在感は、本作のような優れた映像で観ると一層引き立つというものです。「Lights Out」・「Doctor Doctor」・「Rock Bottom」といったマイケル時代の名曲でもチャップマンのプレイは冴えており、バンドサウンドには確かな聴き応えがあります。
この’80年から’81年あたりをピークとして、UFOは次第にその勢いを失っていきますが、この時点ではまだ彼らならではのパワフルな演奏を、ブリティッシュらしい湿り気とアメリカ市場を志向したキャッチーな音楽性を併せ持つ、極上の楽曲群で楽しむ事ができます。’80年のUFOを知る上で欠かせないファン必携のライヴ・マテリアルを、この機会にどうぞお楽しみください！
