オーディエンス録音でありながら、歓声までがしっかりとミックスされた、まるで放送音源のように高品質な音像は、時代を考えると驚異的であり、聴けば聴く程、その別格のクオリティに驚きを禁じ得ません。更にディスク２には同日のラジオ放送音源を過去最高のステレオ・ライン録音で収録しています。この約40分のFM放送音源は、既発は勿論、トレーダー間でも数種類が確認されていますが、本盤に収録された音質を超えるヴァージョンは無く、間違いなくファン必携のテイクになっています。これまでのテイクに聴かれた受信ノイズのような問題も無く、ブライトで肉厚感に満ちた、最高レベルのサウンドボードでこの素晴らしいショウを楽しめます。この究極のヴァージョンが、ディスク1に封じ込められた、今回登場した、1978年日本ツアーを代表する最強の同日オーディエンス録音完全版と対になって収録されたことは、非常に喜ばしいことです。音質の比較としては、同じライン録音でも、本盤のボーナスディスク「Young God: Tokyo 1978」の線の細いサウンドとは比較にならない完成度を持っており、改めて、この録音の優位性を確認できると思います。ジューダス・プリーストの記念すべき1978年初来日公演からの一大決定版。両ディスクともプレスCDにてリリースです。

1978年に行われた、JUDAS PRIESTの初来日公演から、7月31日-東京最終公演が初登場のマスター・カセットからプレスCD化された。Disc-1には、当時のものとしてはクリアで良好な音質のオーディエンス録音でステージを収録している。この日は昼夜2公演が行われたが、「Exciter」終了後にロブがMCで「コンバンワ！」と言っていることから夜公演だと思われる。ステージはクラシックのS.E.からスモークに包まれ観客に背を向けたメンバーによって「Exciter」のイントロがスタートし、大きな歓声の中、ロブのハイトーンが炸裂する素晴らしいオープニング。1979年に行われた2度目の日本公演ではホテルのエアコンで喉を痛めたと言われるロブの悲惨なヴォーカルが残念だったが、この初来日公演では、ロブのハイトーンを堪能出来るのが嬉しい。初期の名曲の「Ripper」や「Sinner」は1980年代にバンドが世界的にブレイクした後もステージでプレイされているが、ロブのハイトーンは、やはり1970年代が頂点と言っても過言ではないだろう。ステージ終盤では、この頃、既にオリジナル曲のようにプレイされていたカヴァー曲「Diamonds And Rust」も素晴らしいし、グレンのノイジーなソロからスタートする今となっては貴重な「Starbreaker」には初期のバンドのエナジーが封じ込められているかのようだ。ラストを締め括る「Tyrant」は初期の代表的な名曲だけにエンディングでのロブのハイトーンまで熱く盛り上がる。昼夜2公演をこなしたとは思えないくらいハイトーンに疲れを見せないロブのヴォーカルも若さ故とも言えるだろうし、グレンとK.K.のツイン・リードも最高のプレイを聴かせてくれ、東京最終公演に相応しいステージが封じ込められている。
Disc-2には、当時、放送されたFM音源が最高の音質で約40分収録されている。完全収録のオーディエンス録音の音源も貴重だが、FM音源の中でもベストな音質とも言える音源だけに、十二分に価値のあるものと言えるだろう。
なお、ショップの初回納品分には、1978年の日本公演から、7月25日か29日の東京公演を既発と比較してもベストと言えるような素晴らしい音質のサウンドボード録音で収録した『YOUNG GOD-TOKYO 1978』(CD-R)が付属している。
