1988年8月イギリス・ドニントンでの「モンスターズ・オブ・ロック」にアイアン・メイデン、メガデス、ガンズ・アンド・ローゼズなどと一緒に参加することになったキッスは、フェスティバルを前に、ニューヨーク・リッツで２日間のスペシャル・ウォーム・アップ・ギグを行った。その初日公演を放送したラジオステーションWNEWのFMマスターより、高音質のステレオ・ライン録音でほぼ完全収録したライヴ音源。オープニングではDJがエリック・カーのドラムセットがとんでもなくスゴイことなど会場の様子をレポートしているのがそのまま収録されている(シンボルマークについても語っているが、コレが漢字の「力」ではなく、所属レーベルのカサブランカのカタカナ「カ」であることはさすがに知らないようだ)。音質が非常に素晴らしく、各楽器がしっかりと聴き分けられ、特にジーン・シモンズのベース・ラインが“ブン、ブン”と珍しいくらいに生々しくリアルに聴こえるのが何とも嬉しい。新しいリード・ギタリストであるブルース・キューリックのギターもゾクゾクするくらいにエッジが効いたサウンドで、ギミックなしでも(映像なしでも)十二分に楽しめる1枚です。
