世紀のテーパー、ダン・ランピンスキーがシリーズの最後に発表した、イエスの1977年8月12日のボストン公演をプレスCD化。リック・ウェイクマン復帰後の「Going For The One」北米ツアー12公演目にあたり、ライブを重ねることでドライブ感が増してきた、この時期の最良の演奏を、ランピンスキーがが録音した空前絶後・最高レベルの超高音質オーディエンス録音で完全収録しています。音のクリアーさ、パンチ、スケール感、その全てが満点であり、まるで1977年の会場の空気ごと、現代に蘇らせたかのような奇跡のサウンドを楽しむことができます。（おそらくランピンスキーは有終の美を飾るべく、シリーズのラストにこの秘蔵音源を発表したのではないでしょうか。）オープニングのParallelsは勿論ですが、PAサウンドがフィックスされたと思われる2曲目のI’ve Seen All Good People後半の爆裂パートからは本当に圧巻で、「こんなオーディエンス録音聴いたこと無い！」と感じるほどの凄まじいサウンドで、この時期の強烈なイエス・ショウを堪能することができます。こんなに凄いAnd You And Iはかつて誰も聴いたことが無いのではないでしょうか。ショウ後半のAwaken, Starship Trooper, Roundabout, Yours Is No Disgraceと大曲連発でも音質は全く衰えません、まさに奇跡のテイクです！Starship Trooperの10分台のシンセの掛け合いパートは圧巻！ですし、そもそもどの曲もこんなに凄いの聴いたこと無いレベルです。同時リリースのランピンスキー録音のELPの品の良さを感じさせる高音質も圧巻でしたが、こちらはより獰猛でライブリーな魅力に満ちた録音と言えるでしょう。聞いていてスピーカーが心配になってしまうような凄い録音というのはそうあるものではありません。これで全く音は割れていないのですから本当に大したものです。当日のランピンスキーのRECのインジケーターはレッドに突っ込む一歩手前の最高の状態を指していたと思われますが、こんな音を狙って録れるわけがなく、機材、ポジション、当日のPA、そして優れた演奏者、これら全てが最良の形で結びつき、この奇跡のテイクが実現・完成したことは間違いないと思われます。これに匹敵する1977年音源はマイク・ミラードのロング・ビーチ音源(9/26)しかないのではないでしょうか。この音で聴けるイエスのパフォーマンスは本当に圧巻で、改めてイエスのライブ・アクトとしての凄まじさに聴いた誰もが感嘆することでしょう！！

同日の既発盤としては、同会場で録音された「Rays Of Light」(Virtuoso, 「Prelude to Awaken」(HL)のアップグレード盤）があり、これも当時のオーディエンス録音としては、最高レベルのサウンドで収録されていましたが、高音質の既発盤ですら太刀打ちできない程の音質の差を、ランピンスキー盤のリアルでクリアーな音像から感じることができます。当時のbeatleg(vol.108)でも既発を評して「ピッチも正確。音源からの距離がやや遠い気もするが、PAからの出力が良いあんばいで出ているため、とてもバランスの良い状態で聞くことができる」とされていましたが、事実、本盤に収録されているサウンドは既発に比べ比較にならない程近く、音のクリアーさ、パンチに圧倒的な開きがあり、1977年の会場録音としては、まさに「究極」のスーパー・サウンドで全編が収録されています。beatlegレビューの中で既発を好意的に評し「まるで自分がアリーナの真ん中にいるような気分に陥る程だ」と記されていますが、このランピンスキー盤は逆に相当前列の方（ないしはスピーカーの真ん前）で録音されたようで、楽音が異様なほどにラウドに録音されています。臨場感が魅力の既発とは真逆に、歓声が遠目にふわーっとした形で聞こえてきますので、これはやはり相当前の方で録音したのでしょう。補填箇所としては、冒頭のFirebird Suiteの1:17あたりまでと、Awaken途中のテープチェンジによるカットポイント5:56～6:30までを、既発「Rays Of Light」より、自然に繋いでいます。

ランピンスキーが遺してくれた奇跡のテイク。今年、最高のイエス・タイトルであるばかりか、全てのプログレ・ライブCDの中でもベストではないかと感じるほどの1枚。まさに絶品中の絶品。ランピンスキーの最高音質盤が限定プレスCDでリリース決定です。

イエスの1977年8月12日のボストン・ガーデン公演初日を完全収録した2枚組。以前、同日の音源が『PLERUDE TO AWAKEN』としてCD化されていたが、そのCDは歪んでいてかなり聴きづらいものだった。今回は著名なテーパーのダン・ランピンスキーによるマスターが採用され、ほとんどサウンドボードと間違えそうなほど音質が向上し、かつ音圧のあるオンな音で迫って来る。収録されたのは7月末に始まった『究極』ツアーの序盤であり、セット・リストも試行錯誤していた頃のものだが、『究極』収録曲全5曲のうち、肝心のタイトル曲のキーが高いため歌えずオミットされているのが残念。音が良くなった反面、細かい演奏の乱れやチューニングのずれなども聞こえるようになった。「危機」ではリックのキーボード類の設定がめちゃくちゃなので、ソロ・パートではいつもと違うフレーズでごまかしたりしているし、他の場面でもかなりキメが合わず、リラックスした演奏というよりも気の抜けた演奏という表現がしっくりくるパフォーマンスが展開されていく。おそらくステージ上でのモニターでお互いの音がほとんど聞こえていなかったのではないだろうか。とはいえ、さすがに何年も一緒に演奏してきた同士の結束は固く、アラン・ホワイトとクリス・スクワイアによるリズムセクションが崩れないので、どんなに長い楽曲でも破綻しないのが素晴らしい。この『究極』ツアーは良質な音源が少ないことで有名だったが、本作は他のどんな名盤も吹き飛ばすほどのサウンド・クォリティとなっているので、このツアーから1作を選ぶとしたら迷わず本作を聴くべきだ。
