まさに「究極」のイエス・ライブCD登場！！1977年「Going For The One」に伴うヨーロッパ・ツアー後半、11月29日ケルン公演を極上レベルの超高音質オーディエンス録音で約２時間に渡って完全収録。昔から良質な音源に恵まれていなった1977年ツアーでしたが、近年、Sirene, Virtuosoレーベルから、11月12日スウェーデン・ヨーテボリ、ミラードの録音の9月23日LAフォーラムと26日のロングビーチ公演等がマスター・クオリティでリリースされ、それぞれがツアー決定版との評価を受けていますが、本盤は、それらのハイグレード・タイトルをも上回る最高音質で収録されています。イエス音源コレクターならば冒頭のFirebird Suiteに被さるリックのシンセ音だけで「これは凄い！」と直感されると思いますが、オープニングナンバーParallelsでそれが確信に変わることでしょう。とにかくアラン・ホワイトのスネアドラムの立ち方がこれまでの77年ツアーで聴いたこと無いほどにクリアーで、そのメリハリの効いたスケール感満点の音像に興奮・驚愕すること間違いなしです。Parallels2:30辺りからのギターソロをそれをバックにした強固なリズム隊の絡みは凄まじく、3:18辺りからのリックのシンセソロの凄まじい立ちっぷりは聴いていて唖然とするほどです。後半のハウのソロプレイも圧巻で、この部分だけでも、これまで経験したことのないようなグルーブ感がたっぷりと楽しめます！ここまで楽音がオンだと逆に音が詰まってしまうものですが、この音源の良い所は音のダイレクト感と、クリアーな抜けの良さ、そして適度な空間性を同時に感じさせることで、本当に全てが理想的なバランスで鳴っている最高のサウンドを堪能できます。出音と録音者のポジション、その他もろもろの諸条件が最良な状況でかみ合ったとしか言いようがない音です。I’ve Seen All Good Peopleのボーカルも本当に美しく、これが「究極のオーディエンス録音」であることを確信させます。この部分は、聴いていて、感動のあまり、思わず涙ぐんでしまう人もいるのではないでしょうか。その位の別格の音像です。この音で聴けるClose To The Edge（前半のハウのソロが壮絶！）、Turn Of The Century、And You And I、Going For The One、Awaken、Yours Is No Disgraceと、77年ツアーを代表するイエスクラシックが、このままどんな音でスピーカーから鳴るのかと、本当に久々にわくわくした気持ちで聴き入ってしまう、そんな大絶品の音源です。曲間のテープチェンジはColours Of The Rainbowのエンディングだけですので、全体的に音楽的な欠損は殆どありません。1977年のイエスがここまで凄まじいライブ・バンドであったことを改めて証明してくれる決定版中の決定版。圧倒的なまでのスケールとクオリティ。本年を代表するイエス・タイトルが限定プレスCDにて入荷しました。

リック・ウェイクマンが復帰してからの『究極』ツアーから、1977年11月29比のドイツ、コロン公演を収録した2枚組。残念ながらアンコール最後の「Starship Trooper」は収録されていない。この『究極』ツアーは黄金期のメンバー5人が復活したことで話題となったものの、意外と音質の優れた作品が少ないため、復活イエスのパフォーマンス・クォリティを知るためにも、良質な作品の登場が待たれていた。そんな中で、本作は一番とは言えないものの、かなりクォリティの高い音質で楽しめる。ただし、いわゆるカセット・テレコ特有のリミッターがかかっているので、演奏の盛り上がりに順応して音量の増減があることが唯一の難点か。このドイツを含むヨーロッパ公演は、米国、英国に続く、『究極』ツアーの最終章であり、本作は千秋楽6日前ということもあって、終始安定した演奏を聴くことができる。目玉はやはり「新曲」として披露された大作「悟りの境地」の出来映えだろう。アルバム・ヴァージョンでは、静かな場面での荘厳な感じがチャーチオルガンとともによく表現されていたが、ここではシンセ・オルガンによるものとはいえ、かなり忠実に再現されていて、いつもなら騒ぎ立てるオーディエンスが、シーンと静まりかえって聴き入っているのが珍しい光景かもしれない。
本作には初回ボーナスDVDが付いており、そちらは同ツアーから11月8日の英国グラスゴウ公演を収録した映像を見ることができる。このツアーでの映像作品は大変珍しく、オープニングでイエスが登場するところから、「悟りの境地」のクリス・スクワイアの3段ベース・ギターなど、視覚的に楽しめる要素が満載である。CD、DVDともに期待を上回る充実度だ。
