今年の「NO FILTER」ツアーはダブリンが「Sympathy For The Devil」のオープニングだったことから、てっきりそのパターンに決まりかと思いきやロンドンではどちらの日でもオープニングに違うナンバーが選ばれたことがファンを驚かせています。初日は「Street Fighting Man」がオープニングというパターン。もちろん曲自体は従来から演奏されているレパートリーですので、ここで聞かれる演奏も十分に力強い。それどころかダブリンを無事に終えたこともあり、ショーの前半からいい感じの演奏が続きます。
昨年のツアーではグループのコンディションを整える意味で重要な役割を果たしたブルース・アルバムから、この日は「Ride ‘Em On Down」だけというのも意外な展開でしたが、これ一曲だけでもストーンズは調子を掴んだ模様。そして「Sympathy For～」から始まるパターンだとSEが流れますが、その代わりに「welcome home!」というアナウンスがコールされるのが何ともロンドンでのショーらしい場面ですよね。

それだけに、この日最初のレア・ナンバーである「Under My Thumb」からして素晴らしい出来。近年は1981年ツアーの頃よりもスタジオ・バージョンを彷彿とさせるアレンジで披露されるこの曲ですが、それが現在のストーンズでも無理なく曲の持ち味を活かせる結果にもつながっています。その魅力的な演奏に続いて演奏されたのが、この日最大の目玉となった「Fool To Cry」！既にマニアが指摘しているように1976年ヨーロッパ・ツアー5月22日、あのアールズ・コートで演奏していた曲でもある。
その感慨深いタイミングで披露された2018年に披露されたライブ・バージョンの仕上がりは驚くほどに素晴らしい。「Under My Thumb」に負けじと現在のストーンズでも原曲の味わいを自然に甦らせられるスローな曲調がドンピシャで決まったのです。それにファルセットで歌うミックはもとより、バーナードやサーシャのコーラスワークもぴったりとフィットしている。これは絶対にこれからもステージで披露し続けてほしいレパートリーでしょう。
この曲をピークとして前半は好調さの伺える演奏が立て続けに披露されたロンドン初日ですが、「You Can’t Always Get What You Want」では演奏が少しトーンダウン。悪くはない出来でしたが、それまでと比べると少し盛り上がりを欠いた演奏だったのは事実。

幸いにもストーンズのコンディションはすぐに回復し、「Midnight Rambler」でなかなかにアツい演奏を聞かせてくれるからお見事。イントロではミックのテンションが高く、まるで彼に圧倒されるかのようにイントロを弾き直すキースが面白い。それでいて演奏はすぐに激しくなります。この曲以降も好調な演奏が続くところが今年の「NO FILTER」ツアーならではといった感があります。むしろ、この調子で勢い余ってしまったのか、アンコールの「Satisfaction」では演奏チームが迷走してしまい、ミックやコーラス隊のボーカルチームとまったく噛み合わなくなってしまうというハプニングが起きてしまいます。
今週の無料ギフトである「LONDON STADIUM 2018 1ST NIGHT: THE VIDEO」はミックを中心としたクローズアップでこの場面を捉えていますが、現在YouTube上で見られる別の会場撮影動画ですと演奏が迷走して苦笑しまくるキース、ロニーそしてチャーリーの三人の表情がスクリーンに映し出される様子が捉えられているので是非ご覧ください。このハプニングではミック以上にコーラス隊の二人の悪戦苦闘ぶりが涙ぐましく、ダブリンから意外なほど落ち着きを払っていた（笑）彼らがツアー開始後で初めて笑わせてくれた場面だとも呼べるでしょう。

今回のオーディエンス録音はダブリンと比べると若干ながら迫力が落ちる感は否めませんが、それでも十分に音像はオンなバランス、それにクリアネスも十分。そこでCD-Rからの昇格プレスCDリリースに当たっては、演奏の輪郭と厚みを向上させるイコライズを加え、よりストレスなく聞きとれる状態へとバージョンアップさせています。現在のストーンズ・ライブ特有な周囲の騒がしさに関しては「Under My Thumb」が始まる前と「Brown Sugar」にて特に耳障りな個所がありますが、それ以外はまずまず安定した臨場感でした。そしてこの初日に関して言うと、久々ながら実に素晴らしい演奏だった「Fool To Cry」とストーンズらしいズッコケ全開な「Satisfaction」が最高です、やっぱり今回もやってくれました（笑）。
