“US + THEM” is steadily expanding. According to the American industry magazine “POLLSTAR”, it also earns about 10.4 billion yen in 2017, ranked 13th in the “Artist earning the most concert tour”. The schedule has been added in 2018, and the schedule is already organized till November. Such a kick-off this year is Oceania which became the first time in 6 years, this work is a live album that becomes the first report. It is a superb audience recording of “February 2, 2018/3 Sydney Show”. First of all, let’s check the overall image of the tour that became dignified “World”.

This is the schedule that has been published to date. Although Roger is going around Australia at this moment, the Sydney performance of this work is a concert that corresponds to the “Oceania” leg ‘s 4-5 show. It is a 4-disc set containing “Full February 3” on Disk 3 – 4 “on February 2 (the 3 performances were New Zealand, this day was the first day in Australia)” on Disc 1 – 2 .
This work which contained such a southern hemisphere show is a wonderful sound suddenly in the first report. Especially “February 3 (Disk 3-4)” is suited for calling the super best, musical tones caught on are stiff core and sound is thick. The site “Cudds Bank Arena (formerly Sydney Super Dome)” is an indoor stadium accommodating more than 20,000 people, but it cleared it incredibly. Venue reverberation can not be felt at all, and details are ultra-clear.
Compared to its tremendous high quality sound quality, “February 2 (Disk 1-2)” gives up half a step, but that is because of “US + THEM” that has continued to rewrite the limits of audience recording. Somewhat somewhat audience / noise (due to iPhone recording?), The extent of something insufficient for ringing, and so on. This is also a high-dimensional name recording that can be permanently preserved as an ultimate sound if it was another artist / tour.
What is drawn with such high quality sound is the appearance of “US + THEM” which is a bit different from what we have been. Until the autumn of 2017, it showed an unchanged perfection degree, but in reality there was a minor change after that. First, members. Drew · Ericsson who was in charge of the keyboard until then withdrew from injury. On behalf of MY MORNING JACKET’s Bo Costar is participating.
The set also changed before and after that change. There are two points, the first song “What We Were Young” that was being played in the first half is set. Two are encore, and “Mother” has been replaced by “Vera” and “Bring the Boys Back Home” so far. Actually, it happened from the middle of “North America # 2” during the last year, and on the last day I was “Wait for Her / Oceans Apart / Part of Me Died” instead of “Mother”. Although it was thought that trial and error will be repeated after that, apparently it seems to have settled in “Mother”. Of course, “Mother” was played even at “DESERT TRIP 2016”, so there was no sense of incongruity. Already familiar enough to the set as perfect.

Roger Waters who stood in the Australian land for the first time in 6 years since visiting “THE WALL LIVE” in the beginning of 2012. “US + THEM”は、拡大の一途を辿っています。アメリカの興業業界誌『POLLSTAR』によると2017年中にも約104億円を稼ぎ出し、「コンサートツアーで最も稼いだアーティスト」でも13位にランクイン。2018年にも日程は追加され、すでに11月まで予定が組まれています。そんな今年のキックオフとなったのは６年ぶりとなるオセアニアで、本作はその第一報となるライヴアルバム。「2018年２月２日＋３日シドニー公演」の極上オーディエンス録音です。まずは、堂々“ワールド”と呼べるようになったツアーの全体像を確認してみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている日程。ロジャーはこの瞬間もオーストラリアを巡っていますが、本作のシドニー公演は「オセアニア」レッグの４-５公演目にあたるコンサート。ディスク１-２に「２月２日（冒頭３公演はニュージーランドでしたので、この日はオーストラリア初日でもありました）」、ディスク３-４に「２月３日」をフル収録した４枚組です。
そんな南半球ショウを収めた本作は、第一報にしていきなりの素晴らしいサウンド。特に「２月３日（ディスク３-４）」は超極上と呼ぶに相応しく、オンに捉えられた楽音は骨太な芯が逞しく、鳴りも肉厚。現場となった“クードス・バンク・アリーナ（旧：シドニー・スーパードーム）”は２万人以上を収容する屋内競技場なのですが、それが信じられないほどにクリア。会場反響がまるで感じられず、ディテールまで超克明なのです。
その凄まじい高音質ぶりに比べると「２月２日（ディスク１-２）」は半歩譲るのですが、それはオーディエンス録音の限界を塗り替え続けてきた“US + THEM”だからこその話。ややオーディエンス・ノイズが多く（iPhone録音のせい？）、鳴りに気品が足りないかな、といった程度。こちらも他のアーティスト／ツアーであったなら究極サウンドとして即永久保存プレスできてしまう高次元な名録音なのです。
そんなハイクオリティ・サウンドで描かれるのは、これまでとはちょっと違った“US + THEM”の姿。2017年の秋口までは不変の完成度を見せつけていましたが、実はそれ以降にマイナーチェンジがありました。まず、メンバー。それまでキーボードを担当してたドリュー・エリクソンが怪我で離脱。代わってMY MORNING JACKETのボー・コスターが参加しています。
その交代と前後してセットも変化。ポイントは２つあり、１つめは前半に演奏されていた新曲「When We Were Young」がセット落ち。２つはアンコールで、これまで「Vera」「Bring the Boys Back Home」だったのが「Mother」に代わっています。こうした変化は、実は昨年中の「北米#2」の途中から起きており、最終日では「Mother」ではなく「Wait for Her/Oceans Apart/Part of Me Died」だったこともありました。その後も試行錯誤が繰り返されるかと思われていたのですが、どうやら「Mother」で固まったようです。もちろん、「Mother」は“DESERT TRIP 2016”でも演奏されていたわけで違和感もなし。すでに完璧なほどセットに馴染んでいます。

2012年の初頭に“THE WALL LIVE”で訪れて以来、６年ぶりにオーストラリアの地に立ったロジャー・ウォーターズ。その再始動の刹那を極上サウンドで描いた極上品です。マイナーチェンジでフレッシュな風が吹き込まれた“US + THEM”。どうぞ、２公演丸ごと存分にお楽しみください。
