これが現在までに公表されているスケジュール。今年の春先には北米やオーストラリア・ツアーを行っていましたが、そこでメンバーチェンジが発生。ドラマーがデイヴ・スミスからジョン・ブリーズに交代し、再び全米ツアーを開始しました。本作のフォレスト・ヒルズ公演は、その「北米#2」４公演目にあたるコンサートです。
そんなショウを記録した本作のクオリティは、客席撮影ということを忘れる素晴らしさ。まず、驚くのはポジショニング。実のところ、詳しいポジションが分からない！　角度からステージ左側、高さから恐らくスタンド席から撮影しているとは推測できるのですが、それ以上のことがさっぱり。画面にはステージの大写しだけが延々と映し出され、それ以外のものが目に入らない。現場となった“フォレスト・ヒルズ・スタジアム”は１万4,000人規模の会場なのですが、ステージ間近の観客さえも映らないので画面からは、本当に大会場なのかクラブなのかさえ分からないほど「ステージだけ」な絶景なのです。
しかも、画質も不思議。これだけ観客の姿を外すとなると結構な遠距離から撮影していると思うのですが、それにしては美しすぎる。さすがにプラントの顔面が大写しになるわけではないものの、それでも刻まれたシワやたなびくブロンドもクッキリとしていて、マイクを握り込む手に籠もる力具合まで分かる。そして、彼を囲むバンジョーやウッドベースは弦の１本１本までハッキリ。もちろん、最新デジタル機材の威力とは言え、遠景ズームでここまで鮮明になるだろうか……という映像美です。
そんな不思議な距離感に拍車をかけるのが音声。演奏音や歌声は思いっきりオンで距離感が全然ない。光景と同じようにディテールもクッキリとしていて、それこそポジション不明の極上サウンドなのです。それだけなら不思議ではないのですが、実は現場感も異様にリアル。距離感がない演奏音が飛び込みつつ、やはり間近席の呼吸感も吸い込んでいるのです。光景も音楽もまるでステージ上に同席しているように近いのに、喝采や声援にだけ観客の存在感が宿っている。まるで友達とテレビ放送を観ているように音楽と観客の分離している。演奏音と光景があまりにもズバ抜けて凄いがために醸された不思議な異空間感覚の映像作品なのです。
そのクオリティで描かれるショウ。これがいつにも増して素晴らしい。2018年ショウの第一報は傑作ライヴアルバム『OAKLAND 2018（Uxbridge 810）』でレポートしましたが、そこから３ヶ月半でマイナーチェンジ。「That’s the Way」が落ちたのは残念ですが、代わって「The Lemon Song」「Going To California」といったZEPナンバーが復活。より一層、ソロの王道に接近しました。他にも「Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You」や「Gallows Pole」といったZEPネタ、PAGE・PLANTの「Please Read the Letter」も演奏しますし、「Bring It On Home」では「Whole Lotta Love」やトラッド曲「Santianna」を織り交ぜた大曲アレンジを聴かせてくれます。こうしたナンバーは『OAKLAND 2018』でも聴けましたが、やはり絶景ごしに体験すると格別。プラントも小躍りしながら実に多ノｐ死んで歌っているのがよく分かります。

何よりも不思議感さえ漂うほどの絶景クオリティ。現場の実体験でもここまで無理だろう……そんな素晴らしい光景とサウンドをじっくりと味わえる映像作品。ぜひ、今週末の供に選んでいただきたい１枚です。
