遂にロックの世界に帰還したリッチー・ブラックモア。その復活第一夜が大幅アップグレードでプレス化決定です！　本作に収められているのは「2016年６月17日ローレライ公演」。先日もギフト２CDR『MONSTERS OF ROCK: LORELEY 2016』で速報したライヴですが、本作はその名録音の可能性を最大限に引き出すマスタリングを実施。永久保存に相応しいサウンドで蘇った決定盤なのです。すでにギフト盤をお聴きの方には、生まれ変わったサウンドこそ気になるところと思いますが、まずは初めての方のために復活コンサートのあらましをカンタンに。
まず、栄光の“RAINBOW”が眠りに就き、リッチー・ブラックモアがロック界から去ったのは19年前のこと。1997年５月31日デンマーク公演をもってRAINBOWが終了、現在の愛妻キャンディス・ナイトとのBLACKMORE’S NIGHTを立ち上げたのです（ちなみにRAINBOWラストコンサートは『MAYBE NEXT TIME: FINAL CONCERT（Shades 195）』でお楽しみいただけます）。その後、世界中からのラヴコールにも応えず、ひたすら愛妻とルネサンス音楽を貫いていたリッチーですが、2015年になって“ハードロック帰還”を宣言、伝統の“RAINBOW”の名の下に、チリ出身のロニー・ロメロ（ヴォーカル）、BLACKMORE’S NIGHTのデヴィッド・キース（ドラム）＆ボブ・ヌーボー（ベース：本名は“Robert Curiano”。BLACKMORE’S NIGHTでは“Sir Robert of Normandie”とも名乗っています）、STRATOVARIUSのイェンス・ヨハンソン（キーボード）を収集しました。こうして誕生した21世紀RAINBOWを従え、３回だけの限定公演を発表したのです。その３回とは……

リッチーは「上手くいったら続ける」とも発言していますが、その後の心境については不明。待望の日本公演も何度も噂が上がっているものの、「３回以降の予定はない」と公式に否定されるばかりです。本作は、その貴重極まる３公演のうち、初演を収めたフルライヴ・アルバムなのです。世界中の注目を集めたコンサートだけに断片的な記録は無数に登場していますが、一気貫通のフル収録は（現在のところ）この１本だけです。
さて、そんな１本だけのフル録音。先にも書いた通り、先日ギフト・アルバムとしてもご紹介し、大好評を賜りました。フル収録なだけでなく、サウンドも素晴らしい。世界中の注目を集めたコンサートだけに録音していたのが１人とは思えませんが、追従が登場しないところからも“これは超えられない”とあきらめた録音家が多数いるのかも知れない……そう思わせるだけのサウンドだったのです。しかし、「極上か？」と言われるとそうではない。やや距離感もあり、現代デジタルのビビッド・サウンドに慣れた耳には、エッジの丸さが気になる録音だったのです。そこで登場したのが本作。歴史に１回だけの初演、世界に１本だけの録音ですから、その可能性を最大漏らさず引き出さねば。精緻にこだわりまくったマスタリングで生まれ変わらせたライヴアルバムなのです。
そのサウンドは、丸っきりの別物。オリジナル録音にあった距離感はどこへやら、ググッと前に出た楽音は「まるでサウンドボード」と呼べる次元に変貌。まるで録音位置が100メートルくらい前に移ったようなダイレクト感なのです。もちろん、無理矢理なイコライジングでギターサウンドのナチュラルさを潰しては元も子もありませんから、“鳴りの美しさ”こそ最重視。「あとちょっと上げれば、もう10メートル近い音になる」と思っても、“鳴り”が潰れるようならグッと我慢。微調整１つひとつはわずかであっても、それを全楽器・全音域で行い、さらに自然なバランスも整えることにより、総体はまるで変わった。長年にわたって“リッチーの全キャリア”を見つめ、仕上げ続けてきた当店だからこそ実現できたサウンドなのです。
そのギターサウンドと並んで素晴らしいのが、ロニー・ロメロの歌声。リッチーは、今回のハードロック帰還に際して「ファンのために、ノスタルジアのために、そして新しく出会ったとてもワクワクさせるヴォーカリストのために」と話していますが、その言葉の真意が鮮やかに伝わるクリア・サウンド。ロニー・ジェイムズ・ディオとセバスチャン・バックを合わせたような（リッチーは“ロニー＋フレディ・マーキュリー”と表現していますが）ワイルドな声質ですが、その歌いっぷりは硬軟自在。「Highway Star」「Spotlight Kid」では歴代の誰よりもパワフルな咆哮を轟かせ、「Mistreated」「Catch The Rainbow」では若々しく艶やかな歌声を響かせる。アマチュア時代にはRAINBOW、DEEP PURPLE、BLACK SABBATHのカバーをやっていただけあって、楽曲への愛は本物。それでいて単なるモノマネ師でもない。「Man On The Silver Mountain」では、中間部にオリジナルな節回しがフィーチュアされており、「銀嶺の覇者は誰だ♪」と歌う。そして曲のブレイクと共に「教えてほしいか？　ロニー・ディオだ！」と叫んで絶頂を迎える演出は、ライヴのハイライト。その歌声を極めて詳細に聴けるサウンドなのです。
もちろん、最大の聴きどころはリッチーのギター。すでに巷でも話題になっているように、１つひとつ確かめるようなリッチーのフレーズには“19年”の長さを感じざるを得ないところですが、その一方で“あのトーン”は長い時間を一気に飛び越えさせてくれる。ライヴ直後はキメフレーズの甘さに「71歳だからな」「手術（左手薬指）のせい？」「緊張しているのか」等々の感想も見られたものの、本作のクリア・サウンドで聴くとリッチーならではの“閃き”が随所に感じられる。「Mistreated」や「Man On The Silver Mountain」「Catch The Rainbow」等で聴けるフリーフォームなフレーズは、“いかにもリッチー節”がたっぷり。ハッキリ言えば指グセなのですが、それがBLACKMORE’S HARD ROCKの名曲群を彩る……。この醍醐味。これこそ間違いなくRAINBOW。「Child In Time」のエンディングに「Woman From Tokyo」のリフを盛り込み、しかもそれが見事に曲のハイライトを演出してしまうセンス。オリジネイターだからこその自由さ、大胆さ。“あのリッチーが弾いている”の手応えが溢れかえる。トーンもさることながら、ちょっとしたフレーズの積み重ねまでキッチリ鮮やかに浮かび上がるサウンドだからこその感慨がたっぷりなのです。

19年２週間と３日。長かった19年２週間と３日。ついに蘇った虹色の初日。ただ１本だけのフル録音を史上最高峰に磨き上げたライヴアルバムです。リッチーがハードロックに帰還した2016年に生きている喜びを胸いっぱいに感じられる１本。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください。
