本作は、本編プレス２CDのひとつ前のライヴ「２月２日ミュンヘン公演」を収めた２枚組です。そのサウンドは、本当に素晴らしい。音の芯もしっかりしていて、高音も低音も痩せることなく、ノイズらしいノイズも一切ない。たっぷりとした残響がスケール感を感じさせても、楽音の輪郭をボケさせはしない。まったくもってプレス級。文句なしの名録音……いや、たったひとつだけ、このマスターに向かってつぶやいた小言がありました。「なんでお前はナンバー１じゃないんだ？」。
そう、本作だけ聴いたら、ほとんどパーフェクトにしか聞こえないのです。しかし、本編プレス２CDの「DEFINITIVE BERLIN 2015」が同時期に出てきてしまった。いくら同時期に録音されたとは言え、あの革命的に美しいサウンドを前にしては、ボーナスCDRにならざるを得なかったのです。
だからと言って、本作がただの“噛ませ犬”と思われては困ります。凛として輝く「DEFINITIVE BERLIN 2015」とは違い、本作のサウンドはふわっと包み込む残響が優しくも温かい。MCで「フレディ・マーキュリー」の名前がコールされ、それに熱狂する歓声の暖かさ。手拍子と合唱のぬくもり。これがまた、やけに胸を熱くしてくれやがる。音源を形容する言葉として相応しいのか分かりませんが、なんとも“キュート”な１本なのです。しかも、演奏内容も極めて素晴らしい。「DEFINITIVE BERLIN 2015」の１回前だけに、ニュアンスもかなり近く、脂の乗りきった円熟味あふれる演奏です。
優劣を決めなくていいのなら、順位を付けなくて済むのなら、無制限にプレスできたなら……そんな仮定のことばかり考えても仕方がない。プレスできないからと言って、この愛らしい１本を無視することもできませんし、ぜひ皆さんに聴いていただきたい。革命的に素晴らしい「DEFINITIVE BERLIN 2015」であるからこそ、ここまでの名録音をボーナスに従えることができた。これから数知れない賞賛を受けるであろう決定盤の横に、本作をそっと差し、いつまでも愛してやってください。
