【ディスク１-２：究極サウンドボード・アルバム】
いや、ちょっと待ってください。これまでの“ヒューストン1977公演”も「オフィシャル級」と呼ばれてきました。しかし、それでもなお、本作のアップグレードぶりは驚異的なのです。実のところ、ひと口に「オフィシャル級」とは言っても、当のオフィシャルだってショボい発掘サウンドから歴史的名盤サウンドまでピンキリ。本作はその“オフィシャル基準”に照らしても超・極上。正しく“名盤級サウンド”なのです。実際、この凄絶なクオリティに世界中のマニアが震撼。「これ以上の非公式サウンドはない」「公式のリークなんじゃないか!?」と、沸騰している真っ最中なのです。
しかし、本作はそんなネット・マスターともちょっと違う。今回の新発掘にはQUEEN研究家たちも飛びついているわけですが、本作はその筋の世界的権威によってマスタリングされたもの。その権威が「これが究極。だから永久保存を」と言ってご提供くださったバージョンなのです。そのマスタリングは、ずばり“公式感覚”。もともと世界を揺るがす超極上サウンドだけに、強引なイコライジングなど無用。ただ、その生っぽさに「本当に公式リリースされるならこうするはずだ」という研究家らしい視点で磨きをかけているのです。例えば、大ボリュームにした際に少しだけ聞こえていたヒスを消し、公式テイストのリヴァーブをわずかにかけ、その中でも丸くならないよう音の立ち上がりを調整する。１つひとつは極々わずかな微調整ではあるのですが、それらを丁寧に丁寧に重ねることで「オフィシャル級の気品」まで吹き込まれたのです。
