プリンス流ロック・ソープ・オペラ、と言うコンセプトのもと92年に製作されたアルバム、ラブシンボル。後にこのラブシンボルのマークが改名後のプリンスの名前になるとは当時思いもしませんでしたが、このアルバムを聴くと既にプリンスは名前の執着に疑問視し、半ば分裂した自分自身を表現、演じているのが感じられます。またこのアルバム製作中プリンスとワーナーとの確執が頂点を迎え、その頃のプリンスの精神状況が如実に反映しているアルバムとも言えます。しかしオフィシャルで正式リリースされているバージョンは、CDの収録時間に足りるように、幾つかの曲の入れ替え、セグエの省略、等を経た結果短縮されてしまった苦肉のバージョンであったと言われています。発掘されたプリンスのラブシンボルの2枚組にする予定でのアセテート盤からここにCDR化致します！！まず今回のバージョンでは曲に関してはMy Name Is Princeが8分5秒のロング・バージョンで収録されており、またセグエもオフィシャルでは二つのみでしたが、今回はイントロ、更に8つのセグエを曲と曲との流れに沿う形で配置、プリンスとプリンセス、そして7人の悪漢と3つの金のリング…、正にプリンスがやりたかったロック・ソープ・オペラを完全具現化しております！そしてこのアセテートは保存状態も素晴らしかったことと、そこからダイレクトにマスターを作っているため、オフィシャル級の超高音質での収録となっています！プリンスの未発表バージョンのアルバムがオフィシャルクオリティーで楽しめる！！正に快挙、その一言に付きます！！
さて、このラブシンボルには以前Love Symbol Original Acetatesと言うタイトルがありました。しかし収録時間は78分、今回発掘された82分のアセテートとは別のものであったのです。その違いは、大きくはEye Wanna Melt With Uが収録されているか、いないかにあります。しかし正直それだけではなく、前述のMy Name Is Princeがの収録時間の違いや、セグエの時間を含めた曲間の違いもあり、プリンスの試行錯誤が伺えるのです。実際Eye Wanna Melt With UはCDには収録せず、カセットテープに収録する、もしくはEye Wanna Melt With Uの7インチもしくは12インチをLPにつけてのリリース等幾つか企画されていたのですが、結果幾つかの曲をショート・バージョンにし、セグエを取り除いて、Eye Wanna Melt With Uを収録するスペースを作って一枚のCDにしたのですが、その紆余曲折が今回の二つの音源で窺い知れるのです。今回特別に廃盤となっているLove Symbol Original Acetates、最近そのオリジナルのテープをリマスタリングし、曲のIDを付けた（リリースされていたLove Symbol Original Acetatesは曲毎にID打ちがされておらず、アルバムが一曲扱い、通しで聴かなければなりませんでした）音源を入手、Love Symbol As Intendedの3枚組のスペシャル・エディションという特別仕様となりました。
そしてそのアセテートとほぼ時を同じくして、93年の初頭にワーナーブラザースに属するプレス会社Speciality Records Corporationで作られたテスト・プレス3枚も流出、その3枚の音源計6曲をダイレクトにレコーディングしたアイテムをボーナスでお付けします！プリンスのボーカル・パートをサックスでなぞったDamn U、イントロが違うBlue Light、そして 巧妙に短縮され、エフェクトも入ってバージョンが違うLove 2 The 9`s、そしてこの時期に録音されていて驚きの若干冒頭のエフェクトの違うWalk Don`t Walk等、全ての曲も独立したバージョンでセグエ等で被さっていないものです。久しくオルタネイト・バージョンのタイトルはリリースされていないので貴重なリリースとも言えますし、今回のラブシンボルのアセテートの更なる探求に欠かせないアイテムと言えるでしょう。
