本作はパーフェクトなサウンドボードで当日の様子を収録しており、その音質のクオリティの高さはまるでライヴ・アルバムを聴いているかの如くである。オープニングはPAシステムから会場に流されていたBGMから始まる。まるで当日この場にいたかのような錯覚に陥る。そして司会者が厳かに「紳士淑女の皆さま・・・」とアナウンスするや、ファンキーなビートが会場いっぱいに広がる。一曲目は「17 DAYS」である。このバランスの優れたサウンドボード音源は、特にベースの音が腹にズンズン響くリズムを刻んでおり、かつプリンスのヴォーカルとコーラス隊はクリア、あたかも目の前で歌っているような近さ。まさに素晴らしいの一言に尽きる。バースディ・コンサートらしく、コンサートの終盤では客席から自然発生的に「ハッピーバースディ」が沸き起こる箇所が、本作のハイライトであろう。

ディスク2はこのバースディ・コンサートのためのリハーサルの様子を収録したもので、こちらもサウンドボードで収録している。完璧な姿のみを常に見せてくれるプリンスなだけに、このような舞台裏を明かすことは本意ではなかろうが、あの完璧なパフォーマンスが作られる過程を垣間見れる、ファンにとっては非常に貴重な音源である。特に納得がいく出来にならなかったのか「Irresistible Bitch」に比較的長く時間をとってリハーサルが行なわれている。

1984年6月7日、プリンスの誕生日にホー・ムグラウンドFIRST AVENUEで行なわれたバースディ・ライヴを、ライヴ・アルバムとして成立するほどの音質、バランス、内容、いずれもパーフェクトなサウンドボード音源で収録。ディスク2には当日のリハーサル音源もサウンドボードで収録している、プリンスのコレクターズ・アイテムの中でもベストのひとつと言われる名音源である。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。
