演が” Benefit for War on Want “のチャリティ・ショウであった事も、演奏に変化を付けた要因だったのでしょう)。後のアルバム完成形やライヴ演奏に於ける発展型の基点とも言える演奏ですし、そもそも音楽
的な重要度がフロイド72年全公演中でもトップクラスの音源でもありますから、これにいつでも最高の音像で接したいという願いはフロイドの音源ファンなら誰もが求めてやまないところだと思います。

かつてこの日の音源は、海外のGodfatherレーベルがリリースした『THE OXFAM CONCERT (Godfather Records GR 361/362)』でのみ聴けたレア音源でした。しかしその音質は随所で修復不可能なヒスノイズ
が入る劣悪なもので、当時それを聴いて苦虫を噛み潰した想い出を持つファンの方も少なからず居られると思います。しかし今から3年前の2014年7月、この原録音のマスター・クローンを使用した
『WEMBLEY 1972 2ND NIGHT (Sigma 115)』が当Sigmaレーベルより電撃リリースされ、ノイズが全く入らないその高品質サウンドで本公演の音源史が飛躍的にアップデートされました。その衝撃はここ日本だ
けでなく、当時メールオーダーを下さった多くの海外ファンからもワールドワイドで絶賛の声が寄せられたほどです。

ところが今年2017年、これに激震が走ります。なんとその『WEMBLEY 1972 2ND NIGHT (以降” 既発盤 “とします)』のサウンドを更に凌駕する仰天のロー・ジェネレーション・テープが発見されたのです。そのサウ
ンドをひと言で言い表すなら「未体験のマスターグレード感」、これに尽きます。両音源を比較すると判然としますが、今回発見されたソースはビギナーでも分かるほど既発盤より音の鮮明度と密度感、そし
て音像のピントが向上しており、記録されている情報量が根本的に違う印象を受けるほどの差があるのです。「マスター・クローンだった既発盤よりも音が良いなどあり得るのか?」という疑問も沸くと思いま
すが、例えマスター・クローンであってもその元テープとデッキの特性を把握していなければ良い音で変換されません。LPをテープに録ったりテープ同士をダビングした経験を持つ方なら一度はその経験があると
思いますが、元が良い音であっても録音されたテープを聴くと個性が違う音で録音されたり、ダイナミックレンジ(※ 一番大きな音と小さい音との差)が狭く感じられたり、奥にある音が細く・弱々しくなる事がよ
くあるものです。これは使用テープの特性を引き出すデッキの調整・バイアス設定がされていない事が主な原因で、それを理解しないままアナログの音をトランスファーしても良い結果が得られない訳です。

既発盤は確かにマスター・クローンされたテープですが、この最新ソースを聴くとクローン作製の際にテープに合ったデッキの調整までは考慮していなかったと思われ、基本的な音は勿論良いものの「とりあえず
マスターテープのコピーを作りました」という感じの音だった事が見えてくるのです。しかし新発見されたロー・ジェネのテープはマスターテープからアナログ・トランスファーされる際にテーパーが使用デッキのメータ
ー値、すなわちゲインとフェーダーのレベルをしっかり把握して変換されていたフシがあり、マスターテープが持っていた音の良さが最高の状態で受け継がれた事が容易に理解出来るサウンドになっていたので
す。今回登場するこのSigma最新作はその素晴らしい原音力に充ちた新発見テープから音を直接吸い取ったデジタル・トランスファーとなっており、大元マスターテープ直系の確かな音の実感に満ちたアッパ
ー版となっています。記録されていた音質があまりにも良いのでピッチ揺れの補正以外はほぼ何も手を加えていない事もトピックで、それこそテープに記録されていたファイン・モールドな原音を細部まで愉しめ
る最新作となっているのです!!

そんな原音力はDisc-1のスタート直後から漂います。リッチな濃度を伴う視界良好なサウンドが場内に充満している事に嫌でも気付くと同時に、既発サウンドが幾分曇って軽いものだった事に気付かされる
のです。「Breathe」も音像全体が+2ほど鮮やかで爽やかさが際立つものとなり、既発盤では若干潰れ気味のサウンドだった「On The Run」も細部が追えるほどに精度を増し、響き本来の色艶と膨らみが出
た音像に驚かれるでしょう。後半4分50秒付近~「Time」冒頭00分13秒にかけては既発盤同様にテープの劣化部分が出てきますが、驚くべきことにリマスターを施した既発盤同シーンよりもなめらかで艶の
ある聴き易さを備えていて、原音ならではの優位性が実感出来る点も興味深いトピックです。初期の「The Great Gig…」では曲の中盤で何度も繰り返される印象的な音型上昇シーンやその後のオルガン・
パートの濃密な音の綴れ織りがますます確かな実感を伴うリアル・サウンドで出てきますし、最大の聴きどころとなる「Money」と「Us And Them」も真の鳴り響きが出た魅惑のサウンドとなっており、マッシヴで鋭
くなった中音域の威力に耳を奪われるでしょう。特にここは元テープのMOL値(※ 歪みが気にならない可聴範囲にどれだけのボリュームで録音出来るか)を恐らくデッキ側で引き出した様子が伺える音像とな
っていて、既発盤よりも精度が増した明瞭なパンチと透き通ったサウンドに心躍る筈です。特に「Us And Them」は導入のオルガンの密度感、そしてギター・アルペジオの響きの輝きと深度がグッと上がり、サッ
クスが入る2分55秒付近からも艶のある音色が音場にジュワッと充満する様子が実に鮮烈で、楽曲初期の演奏にサックスの響きがどの様な作用を及ぼしたのか、その高度な考察を可能にしています。更に
初期テイクならではの「Any Colour You Like」も力強い奔放な描写が音源史上最高の姿で耳に届きますし、「Eclipse」最後で笑い声SEと鐘の音が被るこの日ならではの終曲シーンも既発盤以上にドキュ
メンタリー感満点で、実に生々しい響きの余韻を残してくれるのです。

第2部が始まってもアッパー感は留まる事を知りません。前半がいつになくヘヴィなイメージで進行するこの日の「One Of These Days」も中音域の精度と音の見通しが増しており、ドライヴ感を激しく打ち出し
てゆく後半部との対比が更に手応えある音像で甦っています。浮遊感漂う曲中盤のパートも音の表情が耳元で生々しく変容する姿がますます鮮明で、原音が元々持っていた不気味な響きの移り変わり
が既発盤超えの鮮やかさで飛び出してきます。「Careful With That Axe, Eugene」では歪み無く、色付けする事無くストレートに向かってくるサウンドが魅力で、ここも収録原音の器の大きさを身を持って体験
されると思います。漂う浮遊感の中に曲の軸がハッキリと見える嬉しさも備えており、時代を攪拌したあの音に呑み込まれる嬉しさを改めて噛み締めて戴けるに違いありません。「Echoes」では飛躍的に向上
した全体音の見通しに今一度御注目戴きたいと思います。ここにきて音像がますます精緻さを増し、シャープな音の遠近感=この曲に絶対欠かせないスケール感がソース史上最高に眩い鮮やかさで再生
されるのです。これは「Set The Controls…」にも同じ事が言え、ドンヨリした響きの中で動く音型の変容=表情変化がますます掴み易くなっているのですが、こうした抑揚の無い曲でもサウンドの向上感が分
かるというのは驚くべき事でしょう。当然ですが旧Godfather盤で顕著だったノイズの嵐も完璧に姿を消しているうえ、「Blues」終演まで輝きを保った原石サウンドで聴き通せる悦びを最後まで備えているので
す。

ひとつお断りしておきたいのですが、本作が登場したからといって既発のSigma-115版サウンドが決してダメだった訳ではありません。当時のweb解説にも書いた通り、あれもまた素晴らしいサウンドなのです。し
かし実際その音を聴くと受け取れる情報量に随分と違いがある事に驚かれると思いますし、こうした音の情報量の差はフロイドの様に響きを追求した音楽を理解するうえで絶対に欠かせない要素である事
にも改めて気付かされる筈なのです。アッパー版というと敬遠される方も居らっしゃると思うのですが、既発盤と同一ソースなのに音質面でこれだけ書くべき更新トピックが存在する事に御注目戴きたいと思い
ますし、それだけ聴き手の聴感評価を引き上げること確実の最新作となっている訳です。この抜群の原音波形の再現性は必ずや72年で唯一の、この特別な演奏に最接近出来る悦びであなたを震えさせ
