この駄文を書くにあたって渡された音源を再生した私も、思わずヘッドフォンを押し付けながら聞きたくなるほどの高音質ぶりに圧倒されてしまいました。いやはや一体、何なんでしょうか?この凄まじい極上音質。確かにオンな音圧の迫力だけでも別格。でもそれだけではこの音源の魅力が表現し切れていない。単に演奏がサウンドボード・レベルの音圧で捉えられているというだけではないのです。

そんな本作に収められているのは「2018年10月5日オースティン公演」。今回の更新からわずか4日前という最新のコンサートで、巨大フェス“ACL(Austin City Limits) MUSIC FESTIVAL”に出演した際の模様です。このフェスは10月の第1種/第2集の週末に行われ、ポールは金曜日のトリ。そのうち第1週はWEBキャストで配信され、数々のバンド/アーティストの極上プロショットが話題沸騰中。中には生配信のバンドもありましたが、ポールは金曜日に出演し、配信は日曜日でした。本作は、そのWEBキャストをDVD化したものなのです。
そのクオリティは、まさに鉄壁。最新の配信に加えて、全世界が注目するのが分かりきっているポールのステージ。オフィシャル級なのは配信前から確信しておりましたが、それにしても素晴らしい映像美とサウンドです。もちろん、これまでもシークレット・ギグの『LIVE FROM NYC 2018』『UNDER THE STAIRCASE』といったプロショットをお届けしてきましたが、本作はそれらとはだいぶ趣が異なる。とにかく非常に生々しい。上記の2作品はショウから間を置いており、映像演出も入った作り込みが作品感を醸していましたが、本作は、わずか2日後の配信。生中継でこそないものの、録って出しの生っぽさが素晴らしい。さらに音声も完全オフィシャル級。やや難のあったアビーロードよりも遙かに艶やかで、ニューヨークよりもグッとダイナミック。フェスならではの大会場スペクタクルも素晴らしく、1979年のウィングス以来となるホーン・セクションを帯同したアンサンブルもダイレクト&リッチに楽しめます。
