大成功に終わった2015年ポールマッカートニーの来日公演。その全公演がピカデリー・レーベルよりリリースになります。2013年の充実した来日公演の記憶も新しい頃、早くも2014年の来日公演が発表になりました。しかも会場は屋外の国立競技場及びヤンマースタジアムという、初めての試み。前年の興奮冷めやらぬ中、なんとポール自身来日しながら病気の為すべての日程がキャンセルになるという不幸に見舞われました。2015年になり改めて大阪京セラドーム1公演に東京ドーム3公演、さらに49年ぶりの武道館公演と、前年の計画を会場を変更しそのままスライドしたような日程が発表になりました。本作は、その最終日2015年4月28日武道館公演を収録しています。

ポールが49年ぶりに武道館でコンサートを行なうということで、一般レベルでのニュースや話題となっており、高額なチケット価格もあり、大きく期待されたコンサートでした。既にご存知の通りセットリストは基本的にはドーム公演を踏襲したものの、日本初披露となる曲あり、非常に胸躍る期待に応えてくれる特別なコンサートでした。客席、特にアリーナ席の熱狂たるや凄まじいもので、大いに盛り上がり、翌日の紙面やテレビなどでもその様子が大きく紹介されたくらいです。マークルイソンの著書に「日本ではビートルズの武道館神話がまだ生きている」との記述がある通り、まさに日本のファンにとって、そして日本のビートルズファンにとって、武道館というのは特別な、ロックの世界においても神聖な場所だというのが改めて認識できるイベントでした。

前4回のドーム公演と異なり、武道館の座席は完全抽選により、残念ながら本公演のみ最前列での録音というわけにはいきませんでしたが、それでもあの熱狂と興奮のアリーナ席において、手拍子もほとんど入っておらず、武道館という狭い会場ということで、充分な高音質で完全収録されています。

セットリストは「キャント・バイ・ミー・ラブ」で始まる特別セットで、「ワン・アフター909」が日本初披露。さらに世界初公開となる「アナザーガール」まで登場！興奮冷めやらぬ間に「イントゥ・マイ・ライフ」になだれ込むという展開に会場は大いに盛り上がっています。そしてアンコールには「バースディ」とファンを飽きさせません。

またオマケとしてアリーナ席から撮影されたオーディエンスショットのDVDが付属します。残念ながら全体の9割程度の収録となっていますが、かなり近い場所からのクローズアップ映像は見応え充分。当日武道館に臨場された方はもちろん、諸所の事情で参加出来なかった人も当日を追体験することができます。なお、別カメラによる完全収録映像も、改めてピカデリー・レーベルよりリリースされる予定とのことですので、こちらもご期待ください。
