’80年代のNIGHT RANGERにとって最後の作品となった「MAN IN MOTION」。「バラード・バンド」として認知されたNIGHT RANGERが、ヒットに恵まれず解散に至ったアルバムとして、一般的には余り高い評価を得られていません。しかし今回プレスCDとしてリリースされる「ROCK IN MOTION」を聴けば理解できるように、ライヴ・ステージにおけるNIGHT RANGERは、’82年のデビュー時同様にハードなロックを志向していました。その観点から言えば、ジョー・リン・ターナーを迎えた当時のRAINBOWと同じ方法論だったと言えるでしょう。アルバムはメロディアスでキャッチーな”売れ線”を意識しても、ライヴはバンドらしさを維持したハードなサウンドが満喫できる･･････本作「TOKYO IN MOTION」を聴けば、’88年11月に実現した通算４度目の来日公演でも、そのとおりのパフォーマンスが繰り広げられた事を理解できるでしょう。

本作は全４公演が行われた’88年ジャパンツアーでも、初日に当たる11月14日の東京・中野サンプラザ公演を、録音者提供によるオリジナル・カセット・マスターから音盤化したもの。本ツアーでは11月19日（来日最終日）の渋谷公会堂公演が公式映像化されていましたが、そのために他のライヴは音源等の発掘が少ない状況。今回の音源登場はNIGHT RANGERファンにとって朗報です。
限定ボーナス「2ND WISHES IN BUDOKAN」で聴かれた、文句のつけようが無い録音と較べると一歩譲り、当時の良質オーディエンス録音という印象。収録時間もライヴの約半分と不完全版なのは非常に惜しいです。それでもオリジナル・マスターならではの鮮度と優れた明度で蘇るライヴは聴き応え満点。オーディエンスの拍手が生み出すライヴリーな臨場感も生々しいです。数少ない’88年ライヴという希少性、さらに少ない来日音源とくれば、NIGHT RANGERファンなら聴き逃せないでしょう！
ライヴはアメリカでのライヴと同じく「Touch Of Madness」でスタート。「When You Close Your Eyes」、ジャックの「3年ぶりの東京に戻ってくれて嬉しい」と言う挨拶のあと早々と演奏される「Sister Christian」、新曲「Don’t Start Thinking (I’m Alone Tonight)」と、メロディアスな楽曲をじっくり聴き込めます。当時のNIGHT RANGERでストレートに連想される、柔らかで洗練された楽曲の数々は音質を超えた素晴らしさ！　名曲「Sing Me Away」も、会場全体を巻き込んだ盛り上がりで演奏されます。さらに「ROCK IN MOTION」では聴けない「Play Rough」は必聴のパートです！
さらに「Let Him Run」や「Four In The Morning」・「Half Way To The Sun」も、バンド一体となった絶妙なアンサンブルが堪らない。ジャック・ブレイズの歌唱はもちろん、ジェフ・ワトソンとブラッド・ギルズのツインリード、ケリー・ケイギーが生み出すパワフルなビートも極上のライヴ・サウンドを堪能させます。この当時の「NIGHT RANGERはバラード・バンド」という思い込みを一掃するようなパフォーマンスです！
録音は残念ながら「Sentimental Street」の序盤で終了してしまいます。ライヴのクライマックスだけに大変残念！

本作は「’88年もNIGHT RANGERライヴはこんなに凄かった！」事実をありのままに収めたドキュメント・タイトル。プレスCDタイトル「ROCK IN MOTION」と共に、「彼らのライヴをもっと聴きたい」という欲求に応える嬉しい一本です！　公式ライヴでは味わえない生の迫力を、本作でどうぞお楽しみください！
