しかし、世紀の一瞬には夢が広がるものの、それ以外のライヴ本編はなにをやるのだろう……そんな方に、ぴったりの予習盤がギフト・リリース決定です！　新作のないグラハムは、おおよそ「DOWN TO EARTH」を軸としたショウ（ギフトCDR「CATCH THE RAINBOW TOUR 2014」を参照）になりそうですが、問題はマイケル。近年ではUFOやSCORPIONSも大量に演奏し、TEMPLE OF ROCKのアルバムも３枚に達している。一体、どんな曲をどんな割合で演奏するのか、予習するにも迷ってしまいます。そこで登場する本作は、つい先週に録られたばかりの湯気の出そうな直近オーディエンス・マスター２公演分を贅沢に使った豪華４枚組アルバムなのです！　マイケルの新作「SPIRIT ON A MISSION」をお持ちでない方でも、本作さえあれば、本番への備えはばっちりです!!
結論から申し上げますと、UFOが５曲、SCORPIONSが６曲、そしてM.S.G.は「Victim Of Illusion」「Armed And Ready」の２曲だけ。M.S.G.人気の高い日本向けに増やしてくる可能性もありますが、この２曲でもドゥギーは精彩を欠いており、あまり得意ではないのかも知れません。ともあれ、ここまでは皆さんも予習の必要はないでしょうが、問題はTEMPLE OF ROCKの５曲。詳しく書くと、「TEMPLE OF ROCK」の「Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead」、「BRIDGE THE GAP」の「Where The Wild Winds Blow」「Lord Of The Lost And Lonely」、そして新作「SPIRIT ON A MISSION」の「Live And Let Live」「Vigilante Man」です。これらの曲をYoutubeで１曲ずつ検索していく手もありますが、やはり一貫の本生録音でライヴ映えごと噛みしめたいところです。
そして、「スタジオ盤を持ってなくても大丈夫」と言い切るために、もうひとつ不可欠な要素は“サウンド”。なにしろ、初めて聴く曲のライヴ・バージョンですから、それでも楽しめるには、よほど音が良くなくては難しい。ところが、その点でも本作は100点満点。間違いなく客席録音ではありますが、「サウンドボードか？オーディエンスか？」という区別さえ無意味にしてしまうレベルの高音質。クラブ規模と思われるド直近サウンドである上、客層の高さからかバカ騒ぎもなく、バンドのアンサンブルだけが「これでもか！」迫ってくる。特にディスク３・４の「４月20日」は、“オフィシャル級オーディエンス”とでも言いたくなるような凄まじさなのです。
このようにして、どこを切ってもライヴの予習にこれ以上ないほど最適な４枚組です。しかし、聞き込むほどにそれ以上に、客席録音ならではのリアリティがじわじわと滲んでくるのが、また美味い。どの曲でもバンドと観客の豊かな交感が聴けますが、ちょっと面白いのがアンコール待ちのシーン。13分に及ぶ「Rock Bottom」の熱演で本セットが終了する……はずなのですが、楽屋が小さく、バンドはステージに留まったまま。ハーマン・ラレベルだけが楽屋に戻っていたらしく、“ハーマン・コール”が起こるのです。まさに、会場の空間をそのまま切り取ったような臨場感！　予習うんぬんを抜いても、何度でも楽しめるリアル・ライヴアルバムです。

もうすぐ歴史的なマイケル＆グラハムが待っています。想像しただけで脈拍が早くなる日々ですが、本作は単に知らない曲を確認する以上に、待ち構えるショウの光景に想いを馳せ、心をどうしようもなく駆り立ててくれる４枚組でもあるのです。そして、逆に言えば、まだ１ヶ月半ある。今はただ、本作を聴きながら万全を期して、その日をじっくり待つとしましょう。
