9月24日と25日のスコットランド・エディンバラ”プレイハウス”2連続公演からスタートした’88年の「…AND JUSTICE FOR ALL」イギリスツアーは、今回プレスCD4枚組としてリリースされる「DAMAGED BRITISH」のブラフォード公演やシェフィールド公演を経て、10月9日から11日にかけてのロンドン”ハマースミス・オデオン”3日間連続公演でクライマックスを迎えました。L.A.メタルに代表されるような商業化されてしまった従来のバンドを蹴散らし、メタル本来の反抗精神や荒々しさを持ったまま頂点に上り詰めようとしていた、この時期のMETALLICA。すべてのメタル・ファンの溜飲を下げる壮絶なライヴを繰り広げていました。
その姿を収めた定番映像といえば、公式化された’89年のシアトル公演がまず思い出されますが、この”ハマースミス・オデオン”3連続公演の中日，10月10日のライヴはそれに次ぐもの。「HAMMERSMITH 1988」（Langley）としてリリースされ、マニア必見のハイクオリティ・タイトルとして知られています。今回は上記した「DAMAGED BRITISH」を視覚面からサポートするため、この大定番映像をリマスターを施した上でのボーナス・リリースです！

妖しげなオープニングに導かれて始まる「Welcome Home（Sanitarium）」から完璧なマルチカメラ・プロショットで、ジェイムズやカークのプレイはもちろん、当時のステージセットもしっかりと確認できるクオリティは圧巻。ヘヴィな演奏に乗せて、ありったけの怒りをこめて歌い上げるジェイムズのヴォーカルは恐るべき説得力に満ちています。もちろん音質も素晴らしいの一言。ラーズのドラム、ジェイソンのベースもくっきりと浮かび上がる極上のサウンドボードで収録しており、バンドが一体となって繰り出す破壊的な楽音は、いかなるファンをもノックアウトせずにはおきません！
映像はラーズのインタビューをはさむ形で進み、バンドについての証言と共に、会場周辺に詰め掛けたファンの様子も見られます。そのインタビューに続いて取り上げられる「Seek And Destroy」のヘヴィネスと鋭さは、若きMETALLICAの煮えたぎるような野心と気迫が伝わってきます！　さらに中盤では新作から「One」が登場！　バンドのファンのみならず一般の人々にもショックを与えたビデオ・クリップを髣髴させるイントロから、画面に誰もが釘付けになってしまうはず。はかなさと凶暴さ、熱さと冷たさが同居した楽曲と演奏の素晴らしさは、バンドの音楽的成熟をこれ以上無い形で知らしめます。ライヴのハイライトである「And Justice For All」は途中でラーズのインタビューがインサートされますが、後半部分ではジャケットにあしらわれた石像やセットが崩れ落ちる当時ならではの演出も、優れた映像でしっかり観る事ができます！
