ツェッペリンのコンサート・ツアーは年代によって区分され記述される事が多いが、二度目の来日公演を終えた後の1972年11月末から始まるUKツアーは、翌1973年1月まで連続して年を跨いで行なわれた一連のものである。ウォーミング・アップとしてスイスはモントルーで2公演を行なった後、1972年11月25日から1973年1月30日まで、およそ2か月を費やし英国ないを隈なく回るツアーに出ている。その数全28公演（モントルー2公演を含む）。1973年アメリカン・ツアーが大規模なスタジアムなどで行なわれたのと対照的に、この冬のUKツアーは従来通り小規模から中規模の会場で行なわれたものである。その為非常に近距離感があり、また聴衆の雰囲気も良く、それは演奏にも表れており、数多くの名演を生んでいるツアーでもある。熱心なマニアの中には、1972年から1973年にかけて行なわれた、このUKツアーをベスト・ツアーに推す人も多いのではないだろうか。

このUKツアーはそれまでアメリカ市場をメイン・ターゲットとしてきたツェッペリンにとって、それまでで最も本数の多いUKツアーとなった。ファンの渇望を反映してチケットは数時間の内に全公演完売という人気の高さであった。そして本作が収録されたストーク・オン・トレント公演はツアー終盤の1月15日に相当する。

興味深い事に、オーディエンス録音があまり出ないUKにおいて、このツアーはサウンドボード音源が流出している事でも知られている。ある程度まとまった音源を挙げれば1973年1月7日オクスフォード公演（Wendyレーベル『BRITISH STORY』）、1973年1月22日サザンプトン公演（Wendyレーベル『SOUTHERMPTON UNIVERSITY』などが代表格であろう。この状況は続く3月に行なわれた欧州ツアーでさらに加速し、ウィーンやベルリン、ブラッドフォードなど、不完全ながら数多くのサウンドボード音源を聴くことが出来る。そして本作1973年1月15日ストーク・オン・トレント公演もまた、高音質のサウンドボード音源で聴くことが出来るコンサートのひとつである。

音質は卓直サウンドボードにありがちな薄いペンペンとしたものではなく、フローリングに置いたスピーカーがベースとバスドラで響くくらい、どっしりと重低音からバランスのとれた高音質なものである。プラントのボーカルも当日コンサート会場で聴くことが出来た音であろう、いくぶんエフェクトが施されたものとなっており、サザンプトンは別格として、3月の欧州ツアーのサウンドボード音源も含め、最も高音質なもののひとつであろう。

内容的にはいくつかカット部分が存在している。「The Song Reminds The Same」のエンディングと「The Rain Song」の冒頭に繋がる部分、「Stairway To Heaven」と「Whole Lotta Love」の冒頭に繋がる部分の2か所が欠落している。また「Whole Lotta Love」の演奏後にプラントが「Thank you very much and good night」と別れの言葉を述べているが、これでコンサートが終わりなのか、それともこの後アンコールがあったのかどうかは不明である。同ツアー他公演を鑑みるに「Heartbreaker」なり「Communication Breakdown」などが演奏された可能性はあるが、本公演にオーディエンス音源も存在が確認されていないため、詳細は謎である。いずれにしても、本作はストーク・オン・トレント公演を存在するサウンドボードを1秒たりとも毀損することなく収録している点には変わりない。

名演を多数輩出しているそれまでで最大の規模を誇る1972／1973年UKツアーより、1973年1月15日ストーク・オン・トレント公演を高音質サウンドボードで収録したのが本作である。この高音質にどうしても耳目が集まるだろうが、是非その演奏にも耳を傾けてみて頂きたいと思う。いつもの倍は弾いてまっせというくらいキレのあるジミーのギターは、この時期最大の特長であろう。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。日本語帯付。
