かなりかいつまみましたが、これが“DRESSED TO KILL TOUR 1975”の要点公演。『ALIVE!』は４公演から組まれたライヴアルバムであり、本作のロングビーチアリーナ公演は、その最中にあることが実感していただけることでしょう。
このショウは以前から極上音源が知られていましたが、本作はそのコピーでもリマスターでもありません。ごく最近になって話題の名門「KRW_CO」が発掘したマスター。大元のアナログ・カセットからダイレクトにデジタル化された最高峰版なのです。そのサウンドは「本当にオーディエンス!?」と頭を捻る凄まじさ。とにかく楽音も歌声も超クリア＆ダイレクト。会場反響など微塵も感じられず、ラインプラグを耳に直接突っ込んだようなド直結感な録音なのです。開演前や曲間等で生々しい喝采があるので「多分、オーディエンスなんだろうな……」と感じはするものの、普通に聴いていたらサウンドボードと変わらない没頭感を味わえるのです。しかも、マスター・ダイレクトの究極鮮度が猛烈。従来の音源は楽音こそ極太だったものの、ダビング劣化でエッジが丸くなり、テープヨレも散見しました。ところが、今回のダイレクト・マスターはそんな劣化が一切ない。まるで昨日録ったような……いえ、今ココでKISSが演奏しているようなフレッシュ感覚なのです。
それだけサウンドボードちっくな録音なのですが、やはり本作はオーディエンス録音なのでしょう。それを感じるのは苛烈なまでの“リアリティ”。歓声・熱狂のリアリズムも感じますが、それ以上に演奏の“存在感”が凄い。叩きつけるような演奏、メンバー間に空気が存在する呼吸感、そしてＰＡが大ボリュームに震えているのが感じられるほどのヴァイヴ。“ヤツらがいる”・“今、ここでロックしている”感がもの凄いのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるショウは、まさに“本生100％『ALIVE!』”と呼ぶに相応しい。セットは全曲『ALIVE!』の収録曲なのですが、複数公演の編集感もなければ、アナログ盤に押し込むための入れ替えもない。歴史を力ずくでひっくり返してみせた『ALIVE!』の熱演が、“そっくり現場そのまま”スピーカーから吹き出すのです。

ここまで凄まじいライヴアルバムに四の五の言っても始まりません。本作は“DRESSED TO KILL TOUR 1975”の最高峰、本生100％の現実感で味わう『ALIVE!』。それ以上でもそれ以下でもないのです（でも、「それ以上」なんてあり得ませんね）。
“サウンドボードなんて糞食らえ”なド迫力でフルショウを叩きつける超・極上ライヴアルバムにして、これ以上ない伝説ツアーの体験盤。KISS全史でも最高級の１本、堂々の新発掘です。

そんな本作のサウンドは「極上」。ほぼ距離感ゼロの本編プレス２CDとは違ってオーディエンス録音らしい“鳴り”も感じられるのですが、それが濁りや曇りにならず、スケール感に直結。綺麗にセパレートしたサウンドやオーディエンス・ノイズを制圧する極太感は本編プレス２CDと良い勝負。透き通る空気感に至っては、本編プレス２CDさえも凌いでしまう超・名録音なのです。
それもそのはず、本作はかの世界的名匠、“ダン・ランピンスキー”の秘蔵録音。しかも、彼のコレクションでも特級の超ハイクオリティ録音なのです。ランピンスキー録音を１本でも聴いたことがある方なら、名匠一流の「超鮮明なディテール」「オフィシャルのような高級な鳴り」が浮かぶと思いますが、それがこれ以上ないほど理想形で描かれているのです。
それほどの超録音でありながら、なぜ今回「ツアーNo.1」の王座を譲ることになったのか。それは、セットの短さにあります。別に名匠が録音漏れしたわけではなく、この日はBLACK SABBATHの前座だった。そのため、本編プレス２CDのロングビーチ公演に比べると４曲「Got To Choose」「Rock Bottom」「Nothin’ To Lose」「Let Me Go, Rock ‘N’ Roll」が少なかった。クオリティ面では完全に拮抗していながらも、今回の新発掘によって“次点”となってしまったのです。
とは言え、ここまで驚異的な超録音はそうそうあるものではない。実際、本作もまた極上の名曲群が苛烈に押し寄せる凄まじいKISSショウ。短いからこその濃密感はハンパではなく、アンコールで再登場したポール・スタンレーが「最初にステージに出てきた時はお互い知らなかったけど、今、会場内の12000人の友達が僕らを応援してくれてる」と語るMCも“1975年”の匂い満点。現場にはメインアクトのBLACK SABBATHが目当てだった観客も多かったと思われますが、場内に渦巻く大喝采と狂乱は、KISSショウの凄さに思いっきりヤラれている。ここまでの熱狂、さすがの黄金期BLACK SABBATHであってもさぞややりづらかったことでしょう。
