あのクラプトン＆ベック「LIVE TOGETHER」、そしてベック「TOKYO 2009 THIRD NIGHT」「TOKYO 2010 FINAL NIGHT」と、これまで未発表だった驚異の超高音質音源を続々とリリースし、ベック・ファンを唖然とさせたテーパーの最新作は、勿論、ベック最新東京公演！！テーパーが挑んだのは、東京ドーム・シティ・ホール２日目の４月８日のライヴ。録音場所は９列目のやや左側の席。比較対象は怒涛の超高音質で話題の６枚組「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」になると思いますが、この既発のディスク３＆４も一列後ろの10列目のほぼ同じ位置で、面白いことにどちらも音像が若干ですが左に寄っています。左PAからの直撃音をダイレクトに捉えたのは既発同様ですが、どちらも超高音質ながら、使用している機材の違いか、音のテイストが異なります。既発がいまや主流のデジタルICレコーダーを使用しているのに対し、本作のテーパーは、従来通りののDATレコーダーを使用しています。巷でも評価の高い、常に良質なオリジナル音源を提供してくれるイギリス在住のテーパーも、未だ高度なマイク＋DATの組み合わせという頑なに変えない姿勢を貫いていますが（イギリス人テーパー曰く「DATのマイルドな高音質が音楽の記録にはベスト」とのこと）、この「LIVE TOGETHER」録音者の方も、もしかすると同じ意見なのかもしれません。一聴すると、既発の方が派手目で、ダイレクト感溢れる明るめのクリアーなサウンドで収録されており、対して本タイトルはDAT特有のよりマイルドで自然な音色で収録されているのが判ります。しかし、総合的な聴きやすさに関して言えば、本作は素晴らしいものがあり、演奏がオンなパートも勿論ですが、静寂な中で緩急を効かせる幽玄なパートなどは、未加工の生々しさが音のテイストから感じられ、誰しもが「これだよなー」と言って聴き入ってしまうのではないでしょうか。ギターはもちろんですが、ドラムの自然な音の感触・テイスト、そしてボトムから全体を支配する自然な低音域の響きは実に素晴らしく、PAから出音を最良の形でDATに録音した結果を本プレス盤にてじっくりと楽しむことができます。本盤の登場をもってしても、「TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2014」の空前絶後の最高音質盤セットとしての価値・魅力が揺るぐことはありませんが、音源ファンは、この質感の全く異なる両者の音の違いを楽しむのも、また一興。今宵、このクラシカルで自然な音のテイストで再現される、東京ドーム・シティ・ホール２日目の記録を存分にお楽しみ下さい。DAT録音というのが、2014年の現代においても、十分に魅力的であることが判る、まさに唯一無二の大傑作ライヴ盤です。
