以上、全10公演。未だ最終公演の記録までは到達していませんが、だいぶ出揃ってきました。当店では、さまざまな録音家から幾多のマスターをご提供いただいておりますが、どういうわけかこの「１月30日」がズバ抜けて記録が多く、質も高い。関東で腕に覚えのある録音家がこの日に集結でもしたのか、厳選を重ねた上でも『LIVE IN TOKYO 2017（の一部）』やギフト『TOKYO 2017 DAY 1』、映像『TOKYO 2017 FIRST NIGHT: THE VIDEO』と、すでに３つご紹介してきました。本作は、そんな激戦区を勝ち抜き、見事に「No.1」に輝いたオーディエンス・アルバムなのです。
実際、そのサウンドは極めて素晴らしい。言ってしまえば「まるでサウンドボード」というタイプのダイレクト・サウンドですが、そう言い切ってしまうことさえ躊躇するほど“鳴り”が美しい。オーディエンス録音の魅力と言うと真っ先に“臨場感”が浮かびますが、純音楽的な意味でも意味が大きい。もちろん、ごく限られた録音だけの話ではありますが、ライン録音級の楽音にほんのりと会場音響がまとうことで立体感が生まれ、鳴りの美しさも倍加する。特に、ジェフ・ベックは幾多のバンド／ミュージシャンと比べてもファンの耳が肥えているのか、音質の平均値も録音の美意識も高い。本作は、まさにその見本のようなサウンドなのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれる最新ショウは、サウンドにも増して美しくフレッシュ。近年、毎年のように来日しているジェフですが、今回は女性デュオ“BONES”を伴っての新機軸。キュートな女声とのコラボレーションがとにかく新鮮です。冒頭「The Revolution Will Be Televised」から拡声器を持って登場しますが、その後も「Live In The Dark」「The Ballad Of The Jersey Wives」「O.I.L.」「Thugs Club」「Scared For The Children」「Right Now」と、新作『LOUD HAILER』のレパートリーを歌う。そのくすぐるようなコケティッシュな声と、これまた悪戯っぽいジェフのギターがじゃれ合う……。ステージでの絡みはアルバム以上に鮮烈です。
もちろん、お馴染みジミー・ホールのヴォーカルナンバー、歴代の名インストが悪かろうはずがない。来日公演後、ネットには「また進化してる！」という感想が溢れていますが、それを証明するような名演がたっぷりと収められているのです。

ジェフの録音はいつも素晴らしいですが、今回の来日公演はまさに“音源異常事態”の様相を呈しています。その中にあって、最大激戦の「１月30日」で“王者”に君臨した名録音中の名録音。選び抜かれた“美の音”。今週末、あなたのお手元にお届けいたします。
