Jeff Beck It was “WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL” which was the second visit to Japan (solo first visit). Among them, the first ever live album with the longest and complete collection of “August 5, 1975: Aichi gymnasium” performance which is famous as “famous miracle work” appears.
This Nagoya performance only has a big name, it has been archived with many titles. Among them, “DEFINITION OF BLOW” reigned as the highest peak. Of course, although it is a masterpiece in masterpieces sold out and out of stock popularly, this work is an extension / complete version. From the MC that introduces the organizer now, it is the first live album in the history to recreate the day without leaking even one second from the MC introducing the organizer to the last legend MC “Thank you very much.” If you know “DEFINITION OF BLOW” you will have decided your mind anymore. This visit to Japan in 1975 was unprecedented in Jeff’s visit to Japan. Last New Orleans show was an outdoor stadium, but there was rain that was unfortunate. That caused Jeff to catch a cold. After that I continued the tour while watching the physical condition, but it took a doctor stop or what kind of performances it was canceled. Let’s look back to the schedule at that time to imagine the flow.

While I was resting in Hawaii in my everyday summer, I went live and the condition worsened. It was the afternoon that we arrived in Japan on the first day of Sapporo performance. However, thanks to the fact that I rested in Hawaii up to the last minute, my physical condition recovered. As expected the Sapporo performance sliding on that day was slamming, but the next Nagoya performance regained its original sparkle and became a hot show full of recovery. Indeed, its first performance was wonderful even when Jeff’s researchers were tongue-winding. “Constipated Duck” “Cause We ‘ve Ended As Lovers” listen to the best condition not feeling sickness even a minute dust, “Definitely Maybe” is also excellent. Bernard Purdy, Wilbur Basscom, Max and Middleton’s back team plays a splendid fusion with a distinctive groove feel.
However, the performance was overwhelming. After the live, my physical condition worsened again, and both Kyoto and Sendai performances stopped doctor. Despite some work done in Tokyo, the shooting which was originally planned was also canceled. As a result, only the Nagoya performance of this work was able to become a masterpiece for solo first visit.
“DEFINITION OF BLOW” was the best album of such a great performance. Although it is a famous name recording known for a long time, it boasts the ultimate quality directly converted to CD from its master cassette, it was a literal decision to taste the finest performance with the finest sound. However, its “Definition of BLOW” was not perfect. It is “Power”. The first half part had about 26 seconds chipping due to tape change.

Well, this is the work that will appear this time. It is the longest and the first version of history that complemented the deficiency of “Definition of BLOW” with other sound sources. It is not just supplementing the lack of “Power” 26 seconds. The start and end of the recording depends on the timing of the recording person, and each one is different. Other recordings were recorded before “DEFINITION OF BLOW” before opening and after the show. This work, including such a scene, realized the longest in history.
Besides, these scenes are so wonderful. At the beginning, a famous Japanese famous organizer introduces Jeff, but this work is recorded from the introduction scene of the organizer. I can listen to the legendary MC neatly. It’s too legendary, so let’s write it out here

This work is recorded from the previous organizer introduction MC. There is only one recording that has been recording long and beautifully so far. I used “NAGOYA 1975 ANOTHER TAPE” reprinted from its original take. After completion of the show, it is also complemented from the original original master “WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL: NAGOYA 1975” that included the legendary MC “Great success! Thank you!” Of course, each master gently polished mastering based on the highest peak “DEFINITION OF BLOW”, seamlessly finished with minimal discomfort.

ジェフ・ベック２度目の来日（ソロ初来日）となった“WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL”。その中でも“奇跡の名演”と名高い「1975年８月５日：愛知体育館」公演を最長・完全収録した史上初のライヴアルバムが登場です。
この名古屋公演は大名演だけあって、幾多のタイトルでアーカイヴされてきました。その中でも最高峰に君臨してきたのが『DEFINITION OF BLOW』。もちろん、大人気のうちに完売・廃盤となった名作中の名作ですが、本作はその拡張・完全版。現在知られる録音を駆使し、主催者を紹介するMCから、最後の伝説MC「大成功です。ありがとうございました。」まで、１秒も漏らさず当日を再現する史上初のライヴアルバムなのです。『DEFINITION OF BLOW』をご存じの方であれば、もう心を決めていらっしゃることでしょう。そうでない方のために、最初から話を始めましょう……

この1975年の訪日は、ジェフの来日史上でも類のない波乱含みでした。直前のニューオーリンズ公演は野外スタジアムだったのですが、そこで生憎の雨。それが原因でジェフが風邪をこじらせてしまった。その後は体調を見ながらツアーを続けたのですが、何公演かドクターストップがかかり、キャンセルも続出したのです。その流れをイメージするため、当時の日程を振り返ってみましょう。

常夏のハワイで静養しつつもライヴを行ったところ、病状は悪化。日本に到着したのは初日の札幌公演当日の午後という有様でした。しかし、ギリギリまでハワイで静養したおかげか、体調は回復。さすがに当日滑り込みの札幌公演はドタバタしていましたが、次の名古屋公演は本来の輝きを取り戻し、さらに挽回を期するような熱気溢れるショウになったのです。実際、その名演ぶりはジェフの研究家でさえ舌を巻く素晴らしさ。「Constipated Duck」「Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers」は体調不良を微塵も感じさせない絶好調ぶりを聴かせ、「Definitely Maybe」も絶品。バーナード・パーディ、ウィルバー・バスコム、マックス・ミドルトンのバック陣が奏でる独特のグルーブ感とも見事な融合を披露しているのです。
ところが、その熱演が祟ってしまった。ライヴ後に再び体調は悪化してしまい、京都公演も仙台公演もドクターストップ。東京公演はなんとかこなすものの、当初予定していた撮影も取り止めになる状況でした。結果として、ソロ初来日で名演となり得たのは、本作の名古屋公演だけだったのです。
そんな名演の最高峰アルバムだったのが『DEFINITION OF BLOW』。古くから知られる名録音ですが、そのマスター・カセットからダイレクトにCD化した究極クオリティを誇り、極上の演奏を極上のサウンドで味わえる文字通りの決定打でした。しかし、その『DEFINITION OF BLOW』も完全無欠ではありませんでした。それは「Power」。その前半パートにテープチェンジによる欠けが約26秒あったのです。

さて、そこで今回登場するのが本作。『DEFINITION OF BLOW』の欠けを他音源で補完した史上初の最長・完全版なのです。単に「Power」の欠け26秒を補完しただけではありません。録音のスタートとエンドは録音家のタイミング次第であり、１本１本異なるもの。他録音には『DEFINITION OF BLOW』にはない開演前や終演後も収録されていました。本作は、そんなシーンも含めて史上最長を実現したのです。
しかも、こうしたシーンがあまりにも素晴らしい。冒頭では日本人の某有名主催者がジェフを紹介するのですが、本作はその主催者の紹介シーンから収録。伝説のMCも綺麗に聞くことができる。あまりに伝説的なので、ここで書き出してみましょう
「どうも、えー。時間がなくて（WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL BANDの）アンコールに応えられなくて残念です。僕も歌いたかったんですけども、皆さんも最後のバンドをお待ちだと思うんで。かなり長い時間だったけど、楽しんだかな？　日本のバンドも結構やるようになったと非常に僕も痛感してますが、どうですか？　上の方の人もノッてるのかな？　えー、非常に、あまり世界でもないコンサートなんで、まず、スタッフの人に温かい拍手を贈ってください。それでは、暖かい拍手で迎えていただきます。聴くところは聴いて、ノるところはノッてください。はるばるイギリスからやってきてくれました。Ladies & Gentlemen, JEFF BECK!!」
本作は、この前の主催者紹介MCから収録しています。ここまで長く、美しく記録していた録音は１本だけ。その大元テイクから復刻した『NAGOYA 1975 ANOTHER TAPE』を使用しました。そして、終演後も伝説のMC「大成功です。ありがとうございました。」を収録した唯一のオリジナル・マスター『WORLD ROCK FESTIVAL: NAGOYA 1975』から補完。もちろん、各マスターは最高峰『DEFINITION OF BLOW』を基準に丁寧にマスタリングを施し、違和感を最小限に抑えてシームレスに仕上げました。

こうして誕生した本作は『DEFINITION OF BLOW』の「68分25秒」を大幅に超える「71分37秒」。伝説的なソロ初来日随一（いえ、唯一）となる“奇跡の夜”を隅から隅まで、一気に浸りきれるライヴアルバムが誕生したのです。
“１本の記録”としての存在感・価値は『DEFINITION OF BLOW』こそが至高。それは今後も変わりません。しかし、その中で描かれる“ジェフの名演”に注目したとき、本作が光り輝く。初来日の現場で呼吸し、一瞬だけ取り戻した絶好調をシームレスに味わえる。そして、その名演を生み出したフェスティバルの現場を前後の空気感まで味わい尽くせる。その至福を初めて実現した永遠のライヴアルバム。ここに堂々の完成です。
