【Disk 1: August 11】
Disk 1 which contained the first day of Yokohama Arena 2DAYS is a super real album approaching the chest. Anyway, from the recording position, the center seat in the front row of the arena. Furiously close musical tones are powerfully powerful live albums. Normally, it is no wonder that the sound comes around from the left and right PA when it is in the center of the front row and it becomes a sound with poor resolution. 【Disk 2: August 12】
Disk 2 which contained the last day on behalf is a totally different beautiful live album. Although this recording position is the front row of the stand seat, the details of the musical tones are as clear as the first row of disk 1 and the top two. Perhaps thought to be offsetting distance feeling by adjusting the equipment setting, but this is also another meaning, Kinney Magic. It is a sound that is reminiscent of the high technical strength.
It is actually cheers that the position is eloquently described than clear musical tones. In Disk 1, it was “dense enthusiasm” enough to hear imminent tweets, but the enthusiasm of Disk 2 is a true sense of scale. A cheering carpet spreads under the musical sound that reaches straight and the applause rises like a steam. That feeling is like an official live album, it is a spectacle recording that makes you feel the total concert as a whole.

この時の来日は音楽イベント「KIRIN “BEER’S NEW GIGS” ’89」に参加するためのものであり、『GUITAR SHOP』に伴うツアーのキックオフ日程でもありました。まずは、その来日日程から確認してみましょう。

以上、全６公演。本来は７公演が予定されていましたが、「８月６日公演」は台風13号の上陸に伴って中止となりました。本作は、その中でもファイナルとなった横浜アリーナ公演「８月11日」をディスク１、「８月12日」をディスク２に配した２枚組です。
そんな本作最大のポイントは、何と言ってもキニーのマジック・サウンド。正直な話、1989年のジャパンツアーは全公演を通してあまり良い録音に恵まれていなかったのですが、そんな中で本作は別格中の別格。開演時や曲間に沸き立つリアルな熱狂は間違いなくオーディエンス録音なのですが、猛烈な演奏が始まるや観客は圧倒。エッジが切り立ち、ディテールも超鮮明な演奏が総てを塗りつぶすライン録音さながらの音世界が広がるのです。ただし、ディスク１・２は同会場とは言え、別ポジションの別公演。それぞれに個性もありますので、詳しくご紹介しましょう。

【ディスク１：８月11日】
横浜アリーナ２DAYSの初日を収めたディスク１は、胸に迫る超リアル・アルバム。何しろ、録音ポジションからしてアリーナ最前列のセンター席。猛烈に間近な楽音が強力にド迫力のライヴアルバムなのです。普通、最前列の中央となると左右のPAからサウンドが回り込み、解像度の悪いサウンドになっても不思議ではありません。しかし、そうしたウィークポイントがまるでなく、ステレオの均整とド直球サウンドという旨みだけがたっぷりと詰まっている。まさにキニー・マジックの面目躍如たる名録音なのです。そんな楽音に加え、もう１つ最前感覚を描き出しているのが観客の熱狂。ジェフ・ベックを愛する日本人ですから演奏を邪魔するような無粋な事はしないのですが、曲間に思わず沸き立つ歓喜の声が素晴らしい。日本語で「真っ正面だよ、真っ正面！」「もうヘロヘロだよ……」等々、聴いているだけで興奮と喜びが乗り移ってくる猛烈な臨場感なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるショウも凄まじい。特にジェフはキレッキレでして、当時から「東日本のベスト公演だ！」「いや、ツアー全部でもトップじゃないか？」等々の評判が立ったのも納得の名演ぶり。「People Get Ready」の前では日本語で「アナタハサイコ！」と言い出すほど上機嫌なノリノリのライヴを聴かせてくれます。

【ディスク２：８月12日】
代わっての最終日を収めたディスク２は、ひと味違いトータルに美しいライヴアルバム。こちらの録音ポジションはスタンド席の最前列なのですが、楽音の詳細ぶりは最前列のディスク１と甲乙付けがたいほどクリア。恐らく機材セッティングの調整で距離感を相殺していると考えられますが、これもまた別の意味でキニー・マジック。技術力の高さを思い知らされるサウンドです。
クリアな楽音よりも雄弁にポジションを物語っているのが、実は歓声。ディスク１では間近のつぶやきが聴き取れるほど“濃密な熱狂”だったわけですが、ディスク２の熱狂は真逆のスケール感。真っ直ぐに届く楽音の下に大歓声の絨毯が広がり、喝采が湯気のように立ち上ってくる。その感覚は公式ライヴアルバムのようでもあり、コンサート全体をトータルに感じられるスペクタクル録音なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれる“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”もまた、トータル感が素晴らしい。MCもゴキゲンだったディスク１に対し、こちらはMCもなくひたすら演奏に集中。１音１音がクッキリと描かれるクリアっぷりもさることながら、３人が交わす呼吸感がリアルに伝わってくるのです。そして、そのアンサンブルがまた凄い。ベースレスの特殊な編成にも関わらず不足感がまるでなく、テリー・ポジオもトニー・ハイマスも鬼神のよう。そして、ジェフも真正面からぶつかり、半歩も引かない。ジェフは現在に至るまで素晴らしいギターを聴かせ続けていますが、やはり自在とは言っても少しずつ“型”のようなものにハマッていったのは否めない。しかし、この時はそんなそぶりもまったくなく、１フレーズ１フレーズからして猛烈に才気走り、ギターという楽器の可能性を更に広げるかのように多彩。そんなジェフを弾き出す２人も含め、“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”の真価をスタジオ作以上の鮮やかで叩きつけてくるライヴアルバムなのです。

観客の心理にもシンクロする熱いディスク１。“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”の芯の実力をトータルに思い知らされるディスク２。同会場のキニー録音でありながら、それぞれにサウンドも演奏も表情の違う２枚組です。これまであまり音源の恵まれなかった“1989年”のイメージを根底から覆す世界初公開ライヴアルバム。今週末、全霊の自信をもってあなたのお手元にお届けいたします。
