さてさて、ここからが本題。肝心要、世界が注目した2016年型JEFF BECK GROUPの中身です。“女子ヴォーカル・アルバム”を世に問うただけに、結局ツアーメンバーは誰なのか、歌物はどれくらいあるのか、孫のような歳の女の子がステージでもマトモに歌えるのか……等々、疑問は尽きないところ。まず、バンドメンバーですが、新作『LOUD HAILER』の中核ともなったBONESの２人、ロージー・ボーンズ（ヴォーカル）とカーメン・ヴァンデンバーグ（ギター）がもちろん参加。その一方でリズム隊はアルバムとは異なり、昨年の来日公演にも同行したロンダ・スミス＆ジョナサン・スミスが務め、さらにお馴染みジミー・ホールも帯同しています。完全に“2015年型JEFF BECK GROUP＋BONES”なる布陣であり、慣れ親しんだリズム隊がガッチリと固めたアンサンブルは初日にも関わらず安定。ジェフのギターにはやや堅さも感じられますが、違和感はありません。
しかし、そんな“2016年型JEFF BECK GROUP”が奏でるショウの構成は“いつもと違う”感たっぷり。何よりも大きいのは『LOUD HAILER』からの新曲。おおよそショウの1/3となる６曲が取り上げられ、アルバム通りロージー・ボーンズのハスキーながらもちょっとコケティッシュなヴォーカルが踊るのです。それ以外は、残りはお馴染みのレパートリーがズラリと並び、「インスト７曲＋ジミーのヴォーカル４曲」のバランス。合計で全17曲中10曲が歌入りなのです。お馴染みの曲が多いこともあって、アルバム『LOUD HAILER』ほど大胆ではありませんが、それでも新曲と過去のレパートリーの世界でコロコロと表情が変わり、可愛らしい女声と渋い男性ブルース・ヴォイスが目まぐるしく入れ替わるショウ。かつてないほどカラフルで、分裂症気味の落差を見せつけつつ、ジェフ以外の何者でもないギターが全編を貫いているのです。

72歳にして新境地を拓いたジェフ・ベック。近年、希に見るほど統一感のあった『LOUD HAILER』だけに、ステージもその色に塗りつぶされる事も想像されましたが、フタを空けてみるとお馴染みの世界との共存となりました。これからのツアーでどう進化していくか、目の離せない日々が始まりました。本作は、その第一歩。ジェフの新世界がステージ・デビューを飾った刹那を記録した大傑作。今週末、あなたのお手元へお届けいたします。
