先ごろ亡くなってしまったジャック・ブルースが69年の「スーパーショウ」以来、19年ぶりにエリック・クラプトンと共演した秘蔵音源を過去最高の音質でリリースします！本盤は、当店がイギリス在住の有名テーパーから直接マスターを譲り受け製作したもので、1988年10月10日、ニューヨークの有名なクラブ「ボトムライン」でのジャックのギグにクラプトンが飛入りした時の模様をジャックのセットを含み完全収録したものです。これまでもこの音源は、テープトレーダー間にも流通し、そのソースから海外製の「First Reunion Since Cream」というCDブートがリリースされていました。しかしこのタイトルの音質は、有名なクラプトンのブート評価サイトGEETARZでは6ポイント満点の評価中、1という劣悪なオーディエンス録音だったのです。しかし、今回当店が独占入手したこのマスターは、同じソースとは思えないほどクリアで楽音が粒立ち、オンな音像だったのです！聴かれたマニアの方々はさぞや驚かれることでしょう。まさに「月とスッポン」「天と地の差」がある、ドンピカのステレオ・オーディエンス録音です。クラプトンはアンコールの2曲で飛入りし、懐かしいクリーム・ナンバーをプレイしており、ジャックのぶっといベースとぶつかり合う彼のストラトキャスターのトレブリーなトーンはまさにクリーム時代を彷彿させます。実は、クラプトンのこの日の飛入りと使用したギターには裏事情がありました。この日、ジャックのバックバンドのギタリストを務めたあのパット・スロールがこの日の回顧録をブログに上げていたのです。パット曰く、この飛入りの仕掛人はクラプトンの76年のアルバム「NO REASON TO CRY」をプロデュースしたロブ・フラボニだったとのことです。彼はパットの親友で、ちょうどこの時期、クラプトンとニューヨークで仕事をしていて、パットからこの日のことを聞き、ジャックのギグがニューヨークであることをクラプトンに伝えたところ、クラプトンが観に行くと答えたそうです。ふらりとクラブに現われたクラプトンはギターを持参しなかったため（恐らく当初は飛入りの意思はなかったのでしょう）、ステージに上がるとパットから彼のメイン・ストラトキャスターを借りてプレイしたとのことです。ですから、本盤で聴けるクラプトンのプレイはパット・スロールのストラト（サンバースト・フィニッシュ）だったというわけです。この日、クラプトンと共演したステージは、自分の人生でも忘れることのできない瞬間だったと最後にパットは綴っています。本盤の聴きどころは、当然19年ぶりのジャックとクラプトンの共演シーンということになりますが、この飛躍的に向上した音質の良さからすれば、かつては劣悪音質ゆえにとてもじっくり鑑賞する気になれなかったこの音源でのジャックのレギュラーセットでのパフォーマンス、楽曲の素晴らしさを改めて味わっていただきたいと思います。ジャックのファンの方ならご賛同いただけるでしょうが、この日のセットリストはジャックのベストと言っても過言ではありません。Theme For An Imaginary Westernの冒頭にはカットがありますが、これもこの音質の前では大した欠点には成り得ないでしょう。因みに本盤のマスターは、当時ソニーのプロフェッショナル・ウォークマンで録音されたそうで、それを録音者から譲り受けたテーパーがDATにトランスファーして保管していていたものです。従って、経年劣化のほとんどないファースト・ジェネレーションレベルで今回、聴いていただけることになりました。さあ、かつてのブートはゴミ箱に捨てて、どうぞ本盤へのご注文をお願い致します。初回限定のプレスCDでお届けしますので、お早めのオーダーをお待ちしております。
