’70年代からソロ・キャリアを築き、’80年代にはRAINBOWそしてALCATRAZZでハードロック・シーンに強烈な印象を刻み込んだグラハム・ボネット。’90年代こそ控えめな活動に終始したものの、2000年以降はドン・エイリーほか、クリス・インペリテリとの再共演でファンの注目を集め、近年ではALCATRAZZ Featuring GRAHAM BONNETとしての活動で計３回もの来日が実現し、健在ぶりをアピールしています。
その彼が”新たなバンド活動”として2014年６月ごろに発表したのが”BONNET”です。グラハムを中心として、カリフォルニアの女性ベーシストであるベス・アミ・ヘヴンストーンと、南米出身のギタリスト，コンラッド・ペシナードを迎えたこのユニットは、「一体どのような音楽性なのか？」と、その動向が注目されていました。
そのバンドにとって事実上のお披露目ツアーになったのが、2014年11月から12月にかけて全９公演がブッキングされたヨーロッパおよびイギリスツアー。これは2014年春のイギリスツアーと同じく”Catch The Rainbow Tour”とされ、RAINBOWナンバーを多く演奏している点でも共通していたものの、大きく異なる点がありました。それこそ新たなユニット”BONNET”としての新曲や、意外な選曲が披露されたライヴ中盤です。近年のグラハムは’80年代の曲を中心にライヴ演奏しており、新曲が取り上げられたのは2000年ごろのソロライヴ以来。それだけでもファンは「このライヴを聴きたい！」と思ったことでしょう。
本作「CATCH THE RAINBOW TOUR 2014: ALWAYS BE THERE」では、ファンが聴きたくてやまないグラハムの最新ライヴを２公演、優れたオーディエンス録音で収録！　注目の新曲パートはもちろん、ファンとのやり取りで演奏された「その日限り」のナンバーなど、現在進行形のグラハムをたっぷりと満喫させます！

ディスク１には11月28日のオランダ，ハーレム公演を約80分に渡り完全収録しています。この日の録音はやや音声入力の強い場面がみられ、スッキリとした音像ではないものの、そのぶん観客の盛り上がりや、楽しげな会場のムードをリアルに捉えた、ライヴリーで生々しいサウンドを楽しめます。さらにギター機材のトラブルを解消する間、バンドによるジャムの場面があるほか、グラハムが長めのMCで繋いだりと、興味深い場面が連発ています。
ディスク２ではツアー７公演目の12月3日、イギリス､リヴァプールでのライヴを約70分間収録しています。こちらはサウンドのクリアネスや演奏の近さなど、どの点でも最上級と断言できるオーディエンス録音です（このままプレスCDでのリリースも可能なくらい！）。
これら二つのライヴにおけるセットは、ファンなら驚きの連続でしょう。ライヴは一曲目から「All Night Long」が演奏され、聴き手の期待と興奮を最初からトップ・ギアへと持っていきます。続いて「Love’s No Friend」を取り上げるのはお約束ですが、その後も「Makin’ Love」に「Bad Girl」と、RAINBOW時代でも通好みの楽曲をチョイスしています。
そして最大の聴き所はライヴ中盤！　ここではグラハム自身がアコースティック・ギターを手にして新曲２つを演奏。”BONNET”としての新たなサウンドを聴かせるのです。グラハムがTHE BEATLESに捧げる曲「Always Be There」に、メロディアスでパワフルな「The Mirror Lies」は、いずれも良い意味でリラックスして伸びやかな演奏を楽しませる。さらにTHE BEATLESのカバー「Eight Days A Week」や、ALCATRAZZの3rdアルバム「DANGEROUS GAME」から隠れた名曲「The Witchwood」まで演奏しています。これらの楽曲からはグラハムが「自分のやりたい音楽をやっている」という実感を聴き手にも味わわせるでしょう。
加えてディスク１のハーレム公演における「Johnny B. Goode」や、ディスク２のリバプール公演で聴ける「Please Please Me」の一節（この時グラハムは「自分がいかにビートルズに影響を受けたか…」とMCしています）など、「その日限り」の場面も面白いの一言です。ライヴのクライマックスはお約束の「Since You Been Gone」に「Lost In Hollywood」、そして「Night Games」が繰り出され、最高の盛り上がりの中でライヴをクロージング！　どちらのショウもウォームフルな観客とともに楽しく熱いライヴを作り上げています。
