4ピース公演が6日、13ピース公演が6日、ブルース・ナイトが3日、オーケストラ・ナイトが3日の計18日公演でした。当店もBeanoレーベル、Uxbridgeレーベルを駆使してサウンドボードソース、オーディエンスソースの両面から4バンド形態すべての優良音源をリリースしてきたわけですが、大定番と言われているこの1月24日の音源はリリースに至っていませんでした。その理由は、他レーベルと同じコピーもののサウンドボード音源をリリースしても新鮮味がなく、他を上回る音質を実現することはないと考えてのことでした。ところが、今回遂にこの日の音源史上では間違いなく最高最長と断言できるマルチトラックマスターの入手が実現したわけです。これで胸を張って皆様に1月24日のベストタイトルをBeanoレーベルからご提供できることになりました。マルチトラックレコーディングだからこそ味わえるウルトラクリアネス、何の雑味もないストレートなサウンドがダイレクトに迫ってきます。もちろん一切編集のない元音源ですから、クラプトンのMCもノーカット。史上最長となっています。この「大定番」の日を敢えて説明することはもはや不要かもしれませんが、クラプトンが4ピースを「18ナイト」日程の最初に持ってきた理由、それは最小限のロックバンドユニットでのパフォーマンスをまずオーディエンスに聴かせたかったからだろうと考えられます。セカンドギターのない編成では、ギターはクラプトン一人。音の厚みはなくなるものの、小細工は一切なし、ストレートなギタープレイ一本で勝負しなければならない非常に責任の重いステージでした。その最終日となったのがこの日。そしてクラプトンは4ピースバンドの集大成と言えるパフォーマンスを見事モノにしたのです。19曲中7曲を占める「JOURNEYMAN」からのナンバーにはその意気込みが如実に現われています。こうした姿勢からもニューアルバムを引っ提げての「新しいクラプトン」を聴かせたかったことが窺えますが、この少数精鋭でプレイされた従来のヒット曲も切れ味抜群です。因みにオフィシャルライブ盤「24 NIGHTS」には、この日のRunning On Faith、White Room、Sunshine Of Your Loveが採用されています。この気力の充実したクラプトンの連続公演を祝うため、「JOURNEYMAN」にも協力した友人ドラマー、フィル・コリンズが駆けつけ、アンコールの3曲で参加しています。Knockin’ On Heaven’s Doorではハイハットのみをプレイし、味わいのあるステージを演出したほか、CrossroadsとSunshine Of Your Loveではタンバリンを軽快にプレイし、彩りを添えています。本盤を聴かれれば、「やはりこの日は定番となるだけの凄いステージだったんだなあ」と気づかれることでしょう。凄まじいクラプトンがここにいます。エアチェックやラジオショーディスクからのコピーとは決定的に違う、オリジナルのマルチトラックマスターの強烈な鮮度を是非ご体感ください。
