今週はエリック・クラプトンの定番ライブ音源のグレードアップ・バージョンが登場です！最近ネット上にアップされた「2017 Transfer: Jamie Oldaker Reel > 2nd Gen」と題されたマスターをプレスCDでリリース致します。1976年8月3日のイギリス、プリマスでのステージをモノラル・サウンドボード録音で収録したものです。突如ネット上に現れたこのマスターは、アップした人物によると、この人物の友人が当時のクラプトンバンドのドラマー、ジェイミー・オールデイカーと友人で、オールデイカー本人から譲り受けたオープンリールテープ（ファースト・ジェネレーション）を80年代中期にコピーしておいたものを新たにNakamichi DR-01という上級機材を使って今年になってデジタルトランスファーしたものだそうです。そのため、マスターのクオリティはセカンド・ジェネレーションということになります。本音源には既発盤が存在しますが、お持ちの方はそれと聴き比べていただくと、音質の違いは明らかです。さすが、ロウ・ジェネレーションマスターというクリアネスを感じていただけるでしょう。ここで、このステージがクラプトンのキャリア上どのような位置付けになっていたのか、この年の活動を振り返ってみましょう。

クラプトンとすれば、ザ・バンドやボブ・ディランを迎えてレコーディングしたお気に入りのニューアルバムからのナンバーを初披露し、アルバムをプロモートする気合十分のツアーだったと言えるでしょう。この年はまずはこのイギリス・ツアーが最重要イベントだったのです。ツアー序盤に当たったこの日は、その後にはプレイされなくなる当該アルバムのナンバーHungryやInnocent Timesをプレイしたことで非常にレアなセットリストが組まれた日でした。さらに20分を越えるブルースメドレーを披露し、レアなGoin’ Down Slowもプレイしています。残念ながら、本ツアーのオープニングナンバーだったHello Old Friendや定番の人気ナンバーLaylaが収録されていないことから、元々オールデイカーのテープは不完全収録だったと思われますが、そんな中、2曲目のFurther On Up the Roadでの切れ味抜群のプレイを聴くと、この日のクラプトンの好調ぶりが窺えます。その一方で、この日の面白さと言えば、セットリストも含みイレギュラーなことが多かったところでしょう。この日は何かの事情でコーラスのイヴォンヌ・エリマンが不在で、そのためピンチ・ヒッターとしてケリー・ウォーセル（？）という女性歌手をバンドに入れています。彼女はブルースメドレーでセカンドボーカルをとっています。そしてTell The Truthの後奏では、クラプトンがジミヘンのVoodoo Chileのフレーズを混ぜていたりします。こうしたイレギュラーの大元は、ひょっとすると冒頭の一件にあったのかもしれません。本盤のイントロでは、酔っ払っているクラプトンが客席の誰かの発言に対して「おい、ならステージに上がって来いよ。そのことで話をしようじゃないか。何だおまえは・・・」と憤慨しています。この2日後のバーミンガム公演では、右寄りの政治的発言をして物議を醸したクラプトンでしたので、どうもこの日あたりから精神穏やかではなかったかもしれません。それでもそれがプレイに影響しないのがクラプトンです。ブルースメドレーでもクラプトンらしいスリリングなフレーズが炸裂しています。「ノー・リーズン・トゥ・クライ・ツアー」序盤のイレギュラーで面白く、かつ聴きごたえのある公演を捉えた定番音源のグレードアップ・フル収録盤となります。限定プレスCDでのリリースで、数に限りがございますので、お早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
