精力的にコンサート活動を再開したエリック・クラプトン。今週はロイヤル・アルバート・ホール7連続公演の6公演目、ラストから2日目となった5月21日のステージをエクセレントな音質で完全収録したプレスタイトルをリリースします！録音はロンドン在住の、当店の英国コンサート音源で皆さまには既にお馴染みの有名テーパー氏によるもの。（今週新作のポール・マッカートニーのロンドン、バーミンガム公演も同じテーパー氏によるものです。）音質は、ドーム形状のRAH独特の残響感をわずかに捉えているものの、非常にストレートなサウンドでバランス良く収録されています。一言で表現すれば、「きれいな音」でしょうか。スティーヴ・ガッドのバスドラムの音からクラプトンのアコースティック・ギターの繊細なトーンまで、しっかり捉えられており、聴きやすさにおいてはまったく問題ありません。しかも録音時のトラブルは一切ありません。この澄んだ音で聴くことのできる6日目公演は、この日ならではのトピックがありました。ハイライトは何と言ってもI Shot The Sheriffでしょう。クラプトン自身がその日の調子を占う試金石的ナンバーと位置付け、数々の名演を生んできたこの曲ですが、この日のクラプトンは一際好調ぶりを発揮します。後奏のソロの導入パートでは、まったくミストーンなく滑らかに弾き出します。そして次から次へと湧き出てくる味わい深いフレーズ。終盤に向かって、緩急つけたクラプトンのテクニックが冴え渡ります。ラスト間際の超速フレーズの畳みかけにはオーディエンスが大喝采に沸き上がります。一瞬バンドの楽音が聞こえないほどの盛り上がり。この部分を聴いていただくだけでもいかにこのプレイが感動的なものだったかがお判りいただけるでしょう。そしてアコースティックセットのTears In Heavenでは、クラプトンは会場に来ていた叔母さんシルヴィアさんに捧げるとコメントしています。このシルヴィア叔母さんは、クラプトンがアルバム「REPTILE」を捧げた叔父さんの未亡人です。このアルバムのラストナンバーSon And Sylviaという曲を贈られたご本人でもあります。シルヴィア叔母さんがわざわざカナダから駆けつけてくれたこの日、クラプトンのプレイに力が入ったのは当然のことでしょう。この日と前日の公演は、将来のリリースを想定して正式に映像収録が行なわれたそうです。「これで最後だ。」とコンサート・パンフレットの冒頭に記したクラプトンだけに、最後のライブ映像作品の候補として本公演を意識していたことは十分考えられることでしょう。また終盤のハイライト曲Cocaineでは、アリーナで観ていた１組の中年夫婦がステージ前に詰めかけ、突然そこで踊り出したそうです。オーディエンスはクラプトンのプレイよりも、あまりに楽しそうに踊るこの中年夫婦のダンスに目を奪われていたというレポートもあります（クラプトンはどう思っていたでしょうか？）。こうした様々なエピソードを本盤のクリアなサウンドで検証していっていただくのも楽しみの一つかと思います。この日の音源は現在のところネットにはアップされていませんので、本盤が唯一かつ最良の音源収録盤となります。どうぞお早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
