凄まじい、あまりにも凄まじいドキュメント・アルバムが到着しました。本作に収められているのは、伝説となっているELP初来日の甲子園公演。そう、あの大暴動が起きたライヴなのです。本作は既発のリマスターなどではなく、最近、突如ネットに登場した過去最高音質の新マスター。その鮮度は驚異的で、まるで昨日録ったかのようなリアル・オーディエンスで一大事件が耳元で蘇るのです。ただし、ネット音源そのものは高音質とは言っても何カ所かノイズがありましたが、本作では丁寧なリマスタリングを施し、ノイズを可能な限り除去。過去最高音質のマスターを、さらにアップグレードさせました。「手に汗握る」と書くと、まるでＢ級映画の宣伝のようですが、文字通りグーに力が入る大事件アルバムなのです！
本作の命は終盤の暴動シーンなのですが、録音の凄まじい威力は冒頭から炸裂！　開演を待つ数万人の拍手は文字通りの「万雷」で、日本人ならではのそろった手拍子も、会場の広さを感じさせる時差を伴いながら大迫力で迫る。「こりゃあ、演奏はまともに聞こえないな……」と思いつつ、ライヴが始まると二度目のびっくり。なんと、バンドの演奏が素晴らしくクリアなのです！　もちろん、“サウンドボードのようにダイレクト”というわけにはいきませんが、「演奏が主、歓声は従」の関係は微塵もブレず、モーグ・シンセサイザーの唸りが鮮やかに浮かび上がる。万を数えるぶ厚い手拍子を従えながら、塊となって突進する「Hoedown」の大スペクタクル……凄い。
続くは、チューニングの狂いをモノともせずに突進する「Tarkus」。さすがに「Epitaph」を交えて25分超えの超大作だけに全編手拍子の嵐とはいきませんが、組曲が転換するたびに歓喜の拍手の渦が起こり、変拍子リズムへ付き従う。ELPの優れたオーディエンス録音は数あれど、全盛期ELPの超速変拍子について行く大観衆など、日本以外にはあり得ない。バンドの熱演と観客が織りなす熱狂のリアリズムは、チューニングの狂いですら異様な迫力に転化してしまうほど。そう、本作に封入されているのは、きめ細やかに磨き上げられた“芸術”などではなく、狂おしいまでの“現実感”。1972年のELPだからこそ成し得た、甲子園から溢れ出す“現象”なのです！
そんな“1972年の現象”を象徴するのは、やはり終盤の大暴動シーンでしょう。「Rondo」に組み込まれたドラムソロで、その瞬間は訪れます。熱狂したひとりの観客がフェンスを乗り越えて乱入。警備員が取り押さえようとしますが、その合間にひとり、またひとりと乱入していき、千人を超える観客が突入してしまうのです。熱狂して突撃してくる群衆を前に、警備員も逃げ出すしかなくなり、ついには警察によってアンプの電源が落とされてしまう。
黄色い土埃と発煙筒の煙が渦巻く中、キースはオルガンの上に仁王立ちして「みんな下がれ！」とジェスチャーするも、事態は一向に収まらない。バンドお抱えのカメラマンは、ここぞとばかりにシャッターを押しまくり、ローディたちはステージに上ろうとする観客をマイクスタンドで叩き落とし、マネージャーは半泣きで取り乱す。狂乱を極めた会場で、ひとりドラムソロを続けるカールでしたが、バンド演奏に戻る決めパートを演奏しても、誰も入ってこない。それも当然、危険を感じたキースとグレッグは、ステージを逃げ出すように降りており、カールの決めフレーズを場外の車の中で聴いていたのですから。裏舞台では、警察の中止命令を撤回できないか交渉していたそうですが、結局そのままコンサートは中止。キースの日本刀パフォーマンスも披露されず、予定されていた「Endless Enigma」や「Trilogy」は演奏されませんでした。（書籍「エマーソン・レイク＆パーマー、衝撃のロック・トリオ伝」より）
観客側のドキュメントを収めた本作でも、目の前の狂乱に不安をかき立てられた観客の話し声、メンバーが消えても再開を望む拍手の渦、そして「本日の催しは終了いたしました」のアナウンスがクリアに収録されています。沸騰し観客の「アホ！」「ボケ!!」「バカヤロー！」の怒声も「帰れ！」コールも超リアルに迫ってくる。まさに“事件”、“現象”だった。本作は、聴く者をその渦中に引きずり込むアルバムなのです。

大暴動の狂乱が終わっても、本作は終わりません。ボーナス・トラックとして、当時の（某有名）ラジオ番組を収録しました。ライヴを控えたメンバーを放送局のスタジオに招いたミニ・パーティの模様なのですが、これがまた激レア＆強烈なド級音源です。
まだライヴを行っていない「７月19日」の収録で、これから雨や暴動が待っているとは想像もしないファンとメンバーの交流会。ファンは下駄や竹刀などのお土産を持ち込み、メンバーは「ライバルのミュージシャンは誰？」の質問に「天皇陛下！」とジョークを飛ばす。中には「レズリー・ウェストと曲作りしているという噂は本当ですか？」など、思わずハッとする質問も飛び出すのですが、通訳はウェストが誰だから分からず、「男性？　女性？」とズッコケる。爆笑渦巻くパーティのテンションはどんどん上がっていき、和気藹々のレベルを遙かに超えて、グレッグは女性ファンにキスし始め、追いかけ回す始末。まだ珍しかった本物のロッカーを前にファンは舞い上がり、メンバーは調子に乗りまくり、DJは「気が狂ってる！」を連呼する。甲子園の暴動とは違うものの、ELPはここでも熱狂を巻き起こしている。まさに、ELPは“現象“だったのです。
熱狂の暴動とラジオ放送。いかに“ELP来日”が事件だったのか、まるで手で触れているかのようなリアリティに溢れた２枚組です。ライヴ・アルバムを遙かに超えたドキュメント・アルバム。本作は、もはや音楽CDなどではありません。あなたの部屋を事件の現場に変えてしまう、たった２枚のタイムマシンなのです。バンドやファンを巻き込んで脈打っていた、ロック自身の生命力を持っていた時代の記録。あなたの棚で、この生命を永遠に残してください！
