先日急逝したグレン・フライとドン・ヘンリーが出会い、リンダ・ロンシュタットのバックバンドなどを経て、仕事人バーニー・レドン、ランディ・マイズナーの４人で活動をスタート。当時の同居人ジャクソン・ブラウンとの共作”テイク・イット・イージー”が1972年にヒットして、幸先のいいスタートを切り、西部開拓時代をモチーフにコンセプト・アルバム『ならず者』を1973年にリリース。そして翌１９７４年には、よりロック・サウンド強化を図りドン・フェルダーが加入し3rdアルバム『オン・ザ・ボーダー』を発表。シングル「ザ・ベスト・オブ・マイ・ラブ ～我が愛の至上」が全米No.1ヒットを獲得。

このＤＶＤにはそんな時期、丁度アルバム『ならず者』を録音中の1973年3月、オランダでのロックイベント”POPGALA”に出演した際の貴重なプロショット・ライヴから始まります。このイベントはTHE WHO、FACES、RY COODERらも出演しており、このＤＶＤの収録ライヴ本編後にボーナスとして追加収録したＴＶ局発掘のドキュメンタリー映像にそれらのバンドの映像も垣間見る事ができます。

1973年のイーグルスは、まずアコースティック・セットでライヴを始め、後半はエレクトリック・セットになるというライヴ構成で、この日は後年再結成時に発表されるもう一人のイーグルス・・J.D.サウザー作の”How Long”を早くもこのステージで披露しているのは驚きです。

そして定番映像である1973年4月の英国ＢＢＣシアターでのＴＶライヴも高画質収録。当時はバンドで一番の実績者であったバーニー・レドンの奏でるバンジョーや、ストリングベンダー付テレキャスを操る巧みな奏法でカントリー色が強い時期の貴重なライヴ。そう、ブーツカットのジーンズにロングヘアー・・まさにイーグルス！というルックス＆ファッションはこの時代ならではの雰囲気を伝えてくれます。

Disc-1の最後には、余り知られていないセントラルパークでの野外ライヴなどを追加収録。これは60年代から’76年まで毎年、夏の間に行われていたセントラルパークでの野外イベントで、古くはオールマンズ、ＺＥＰ、キング・クリムゾンからエアロスミスまで出演していたイベントなんです。画質は決して高画質とは言えませんが非常にレアなライヴです。

そしてDisc-2では、あのDEEP PURPLEやELPで有名な「カリフォルニア・ジャム1974」にイーグルスが出演した際のプロショット映像を収録しています。今まで映像の流出も少なく「イーグルスがカリ・ジャムに出ていた」事実は案外知られていないんですネ。この数時間あとＲ・ブラックモアがテレビカメラを叩き壊しマーシャルが炎上する、あのステージで、陽光まぶしい真昼間に、ジャクソン・ブラウンも加わってのピースフルなステージを４曲収録。

その後には1974年ライヴの定番中の定番！ジャクソン・ブラウン、リンダ・ロンシュタットらゲストを交えて出演したABC-TVの特別プログラム「ドン・カーシュナーズ・ロック・コンサート」を高画質なvh-1再放送ヴァージョンから収録しています。
