本編プレスDVDは、記念すべきDIO初来日のプロショットを史上最高峰クオリティで復刻した１本。もちろん、その後も彼らは何度も来日公演を行っており、いくつかのプロショットも残しています。本作は、そんなプロショットを総まとめした映像集。本編プレスDVDと併せ、DIOのライヴ・イン・ジャパンが（超・極上クオリティで！）一気にコレクトできる大傑作です。それでは、まずDIOの来日公演史を紐解いてみましょう……。

このように歴史上、DIOは７度の来日で全22公演を行いました。そのうち、“SACRED HEART TOUR 1986”・“MAGICA TOUR 2000”の２つ以外はすべてプロショットが残っています。初来日は本編プレスDVD、残りが本作というわけです。それでは、各ライヴをご紹介していきましょう。

【1987年：JAPAN AID 2】
まずはクレイグ・ゴールディに交代し、「1987年10月４日」のチャリティ・イベント“JAPAN AID 2”に出演した際のプロショット４曲。この年の来日公演はこの１回限りなこともあり、たった４曲でも初来日“SUPER ROCK ’85”と並び称される映像です。
ここでの見どころは、なんと言ってもクレイグ・ゴールディ。オフィシャル映像『SACRED HEART “THE VIDEO”』ではミックスを抑えられて今ひとつな印象でしたが、ここでは本来の滑らかな速弾きが大爆発！　特に凄まじいのは「Neon Knights」で、トニー・アイオミのオリジナル・フレーズを基調にしながらまったく生まれ変わった超速ソロは圧倒的。下手にコピーしなかったのは大正解で、完全に“DIOの世界”に塗り替えたからこそ猛烈な疾走感が炸裂する最高のバージョンです。そして、もう１つの見どころは「Stars」！　チャリティ・プロジェクト『HEAR’N AID』では様々なスター・プレイヤー（クレイグも参加）がよってたかって歌い、ギターを弾いていましたが、ここではDIOによるバンド・バージョン。普通の曲として演奏されると、曲本来の良さが一層際立ち、クレイグのコンパクトなソロも完璧。このバンドバージョンはサウンドボードでも残っておらず、このプロショットが唯一のライン記録でもあります。さらに、チャリティについてインタビューを受けるロニーの姿も見られます。
また、彼にも触れないわけにはいきません。ここには、39歳のジミー・ベインの勇姿も刻まれている。1976年のRAINBOW初来日から10年、この映像が彼の最後のライヴ・イン・ジャパンなのです。

【1997年：ANGRY MACHINES TOUR】
続いては、４度目の来日公演のプロショット３曲。その間にDIOの解散→BLACK SABBATH再結成→DIO再結成があり、10年ものブランクを経ての再訪でした。その10年で時代もDIOも様変わり、トレイシーＧを迎えての“ヘヴィDIO”です。そのヘヴィな魅力が炸裂する隠れた名曲「Jesus Mary & The Holy Ghost」を筆頭に、「Straight Through The Heart」「Don’t Talk To Strangers」といった過去のレパートリーでもオリジナルを完全に改変するトレイシーＧが強烈。この後、DIOはファンタジー路線への回帰と共に栄光の名曲に重点を置いていくようになりますが、ここではあくまでもシーンに切り込んでいく野心が燃える。挑戦者ロニーの咆哮が轟くプロショットです。

【2005年：MASTER OF THE MOON TOUR】
『MAGICA』でファンタジーに回帰したDIOは、2000年にも５度目の来日を果たしましたが、プロショットは残されませんでした。次なるプロショットは、６度目の来日公演「2005年５月29日ZEPP TOKYO」。「Man On The Silver Mountain」「Long Live Rock’n’Roll」のRAINBOW２曲に加え、最終作『MASTER OF THE MOON』の「Sivers」を収めています。ギターにクレイグが復帰している他、サイモン・ライト、ルディ・サーゾ、スコット・ウォーレンという最終ラインナップでの来日でした。

【2006年：LOUD PARK 06】
そして、最後は７度目の来日公演から「2006年10月15日LOUD PARK」のプロショット３曲です。ロニー自身は、翌2007年にもHEAVEN & HELLで最後の来日を果たしますが、DIOとしては2006年が最後でした。
たった３曲ではありますが、RAINBOWの「The Temple Of The King」、BLACK SABBATHの「Heaven And Hell」、DIOの「Stand Up & Shout」と、各時代の代表曲で魅せてくれます。冒頭の“JAPAN AID 2”以降、久しく小さな会場を余儀なくされてきたDIOですが、ここでは万を数える“LOUD PARK 06”の大観衆を自在に操るロニーの姿がハッキリと刻まれている。大観衆の唱和を呼ぶ「Heaven And Hell」のスペクタクル……。まさに“栄光のDIO”最終章に相応しい光景です。

1985年の初来日公演を収めた本編プレスDVDに続き、1987年から2006年のプロショット・イン・ジャパンを網羅した本作。21年にわたる「DIOと日本」の総てが世界最高峰クオリティの超・極上セットです。どうぞ存分にご堪能ください。
