今年のROCK IN RIOからは現在、さまざまなバンド／アーティストのプロショットが大量生産されていますが、DEF LEPPARDが出演したのは全７日間中の４日目「2017年９月21日」のこと。ヘッドライナーAEROSMITHの１つ前を務めました。そのAEROSMITHは“ROCK IN RIO”初参加でしたが、それはDEF LEPPARDも同じ。かつて第１回（1985年）に出演予定だったこともあったのですが、当時は『HYSTERIA』の制作が遅れたために断念。彼らの穴はWHITESNAKEが埋めることになった（白蛇とは何かと因縁がありますね）。その後、ポルトガルやスペイン、アメリカといった“他国版ROCK IN RIO”が開催されるようになっても縁がありませんでした。

これが2017年のライヴスケジュール。来年の企画ツアーに備えてか、わりとこぢんまりとしており、本作のリオ・デ・ジャネイロ公演は「中南米」レッグの初日にあたるコンサートです。
そんな本作は……もう、言葉がないほど鉄壁・完璧なオフィシャル級プロショット。画質・音質はもとより、サウンドミックスもカメラワークも完全無欠。開演前、メンバーがステージに向かうシーンから始まるのですが、そこからもう超美麗。先頭を歩くフィル・コリンのテラッテラ＆ビッシビシな筋肉も輝き（さらにビルドアップしている!?）、毛穴まで見えそうです。もちろん、本編ショウも鉄壁。ありとあらゆるシーンが超・鮮明で、ドラムライザーの階段に至るまで使ったダイナミックなライトショウも超カラフルです。
とは言え、本作は普通のプロショットともちょっとだけ雰囲気が違う。それはオーディエンス・ノイズ。どの国でもプロショットはサウンドボード音声に、観客の声を被せるもの。その喝采がやたら熱く、近い。もちろん、他のプロショットと同じように、演奏の邪魔になることはありません。ミックスで演奏中は抑えられ、盛り上がりポイントや曲間になるとボリュームが上げられる。それは本作も同じなのですが、ミックスする声も数種類用意しているのかシーンによって「大歓声」でスケール感を醸したかと思えば、オーディエンス録音のような「間近な声援」が入ったりする。もちろん、その使い分けも曲やシーンに沿っており、妙に芸が細かい。このスペクタクルと臨場感の両立は、他国放送やオフィシャル作品ではそうそうお目にかかれない。「南米放送もここまで進化したのか」……そんな感慨が湧くほどに見事な映像作品なのです。
そんなクオリティで描かれるショウは、黄金のグレイテスト・ヒッツ。トリではないものの、１時間20分に及ぶ持ち時間を超名曲で埋め尽くしている。最新作から「Let’s Go」「Man Enough」も披露されますが、残り12曲は徹底的に往年のヒット・パレードです。この日は約３ヶ月ぶりのショウとなるわけですが、歴戦のDEF LEPPARDだけに“慣らし”感はなし。再び髪の伸びたヴィヴィアン・キャンベルの勇姿も、カタカナで「フィル」と描かれたギターも、あざやかなマルチカメラ・プロショットでばっちり目撃できます。

超・極上のオフィシャル級クオリティでありながら、オフィシャル品ではあり得ないリアリティも美味しい一級品です。それこそ公式盤『AND THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME』にも匹敵し、その“2017年編”・“南米編”となる１枚。輝きを永久に残すプレスDVDで登場です！
