今年のROCK IN RIOからは現在、さまざまなバンド／アーティストのプロショットが大量生産されていますが、DEF LEPPARDが出演したのは全７日間中の４日目「2017年９月21日」のこと。ヘッドライナーAEROSMITHの１つ前を務めました。そのAEROSMITHは“ROCK IN RIO”初参加でしたが、それはDEF LEPPARDも同じ。かつて第１回（1985年）に出演予定だったこともあったのですが、当時は『HYSTERIA』の制作が遅れたために断念。彼らの穴はWHITESNAKEが埋めることになった（白蛇とは何かと因縁がありますね）。その後、ポルトガルやスペイン、アメリカといった“他国版ROCK IN RIO”が開催されるようになっても縁がありませんでした。
実に32年越しにようやく実現した“ROCK IN RIO”。まずは、彼らの近況を確認する意味でも、ツアー全体像の中でポジションを確認してみましょう。

これが2017年のライヴスケジュール。来年の企画ツアーに備えてか、わりとこぢんまりとしており、本作のリオ・デ・ジャネイロ公演は「中南米」レッグの初日にあたるコンサートです。
そんな本作は……もう、言葉がないほど鉄壁・完璧なオフィシャル級プロショット。画質・音質はもとより、サウンドミックスもカメラワークも完全無欠。開演前、メンバーがステージに向かうシーンから始まるのですが、そこからもう超美麗。先頭を歩くフィル・コリンのテラッテラ＆ビッシビシな筋肉も輝き（さらにビルドアップしている!?）、毛穴まで見えそうです。もちろん、本編ショウも鉄壁。ありとあらゆるシーンが超・鮮明で、ドラムライザーの階段に至るまで使ったダイナミックなライトショウも超カラフルです。
とは言え、本作は普通のプロショットともちょっとだけ雰囲気が違う。それはオーディエンス・ノイズ。どの国でもプロショットはサウンドボード音声に、観客の声を被せるもの。その喝采がやたら熱く、近い。もちろん、他のプロショットと同じように、演奏の邪魔になることはありません。ミックスで演奏中は抑えられ、盛り上がりポイントや曲間になるとボリュームが上げられる。それは本作も同じなのですが、ミックスする声も数種類用意しているのかシーンによって「大歓声」でスケール感を醸したかと思えば、オーディエンス録音のような「間近な声援」が入ったりする。もちろん、その使い分けも曲やシーンに沿っており、妙に芸が細かい。このスペクタクルと臨場感の両立は、他国放送やオフィシャル作品ではそうそうお目にかかれない。「南米放送もここまで進化したのか」……そんな感慨が湧くほどに見事な映像作品なのです。
そんなクオリティで描かれるショウは、黄金のグレイテスト・ヒッツ。トリではないものの、１時間20分に及ぶ持ち時間を超名曲で埋め尽くしている。最新作から「Let’s Go」「Man Enough」も披露されますが、残り12曲は徹底的に往年のヒット・パレードです。この日は約３ヶ月ぶりのショウとなるわけですが、歴戦のDEF LEPPARDだけに“慣らし”感はなし。再び髪の伸びたヴィヴィアン・キャンベルの勇姿も、カタカナで「フィル」と描かれたギターも、あざやかなマルチカメラ・プロショットでばっちり目撃できます。

超・極上のオフィシャル級クオリティでありながら、オフィシャル品ではあり得ないリアリティも美味しい一級品です。それこそ公式盤『AND THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME』にも匹敵し、その“2017年編”・“南米編”となる１枚。輝きを永久に残すプレスDVDで登場です！

本編プレスDVDは、オフィシャル作品『AND THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME』にも引けを取らない鉄壁の超極上プロショットです。クオリティ的には完全無欠な１枚ではあるのですが、ムリヤリ難癖を付けるとしたら長さ。もちろん、フル収録ではあるのですが、当の現場がトリをAEROSMITHに譲るポジションだったが故に、いつもに比べるとやや食い足りなさを感じてしまうのです。そこで、ボーナスには近年のプロショットを特集した１枚をご用意しました。
本作に収められているのは、2006年から2015年に至る、10年間のプロショット。単独作品にはなり得ない短めの放送ながら、超極上クオリティの映像のみをコンパイル。７番組・17曲を約80分に渡って楽しめる１枚です。それでは、それぞれの映像をご紹介していきましょう。

【2006年５月25日：VH1 ROCK HONORS（３曲）】
最初に登場するのは、いきなりのハイライト。“VH1 ROCK HONORS”に出演した際の映像です。何と言っても美味しいのがT. REXのカバー「20th Century Boy」。この日は『YEAH!』発売の２日後にあたり、そのプロモーションで演奏されたわけですが、ここで特別ゲスト：ブライアン・メイが登場！　まだ黒髪のメイがあのトーンを奏で、DEF LEPPARDと融合していく。個性の塊のようなメイのサウンドはDEF LEPPARDとの相性も抜群で、フレディ・マーキュリーの追悼コンサートを彷彿とさせる超・極上プロショットなのです。

【2008年５月８日：LIVE FROM ABBEY ROAD（３曲）】
上記は『YEAH!』プロモーションでしたが、残りはすべて『SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE』以降のプロショットです。まずは『SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE』発売の約２週間後に出演した“LIVE FROM ABBEY ROAD”。当時ならではの「C’mon C’mon」も演奏しています。
この番組は、その名の通り、バンドが“アビーロード・スタジオ”を訪れ、そこでスタジオ・ライヴを繰り広げるというもの。伝説スタジオに対する思いが透けるインタビューも収録していますが、演奏も普通とはちょっと違う雰囲気。通常、テレビ出演のスタジオ・ライヴとは言ってもイメージはステージ風。全員が前を向き、サクラの観客か、仮想の客席に向かってパフォームします。ところが、この番組はそうじゃない。言わば“リハーサル風”でして、全員が輪になって自然体のままスタジオの空気を楽しむように演奏する。そこには“魅せる動き”はまるでなく、ひたすら互いと自らの“音”に集中している。間違いなく生演奏でありながら、限りなく“スタジオ録音”に近いムード。もちろん、それだけでは淡泊な映像になってしまいますが、そこは専門番組。多彩で意外なカメラワークとカットでムード演出。まるでPVのような仕上がりなのです。

【2011年６月10日：DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL（４曲）】
続いてはムードも真逆なプロショット。本国イギリスの聖地ドニントンで開かれる野外フェス“DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL”に出演した際の模様です。もちろん、“MONSTERS OF ROCK”の伝統を引き継いだ巨大フェスになるわけですが、彼らが聖地に出演したのは意外と少ない。“MONSTERS OF ROCK”時代から数えても1986年・2009年・2011年の３回しかなく、最多ヘッドライナー記録を誇る同期IRON MAIDENとは対照的です。
この映像は、そのうちでも最新の“2011年版”。上記のスタジオ・ライヴとは真反対に魅せるパフォーマンス、巨大なセット、開放的な野外ムード、数万人の大群衆の熱狂を全身に浴びる喜びいっぱい。こうしたムードは本編プレスDVDの“ROCK IN RIO”にも通じますが、こちらは本国の大舞台。さらに本編プレスDVDでは観られない「Wasted」も楽しめます。

【2011年＋2012年：THE TONIGHT SHOW（２曲）】
続いては、いかにもテレビっぽいプロショット。ジェイ・レノがパーソナリティを務める“THE TONIGHT SHOW”に出演した模様です。本作では「2011年５月10日」と「2012年４月６日」の２回分で放送された１曲ずつを収録しています。
その光景は、いかにも“テレビ！”。ステージを模したセットに偽の歓声と手拍子、ステージのように振る舞おうとするメンバーも視線が定まらない（笑）。もちろん、百戦錬磨の大ベテランですからぎこちない事はないのですが、上記の“ABBEY ROAD”や“DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL”に比べるとお仕事感が漂う。それがかえって面白くもあるプロショットです。

【2014年９月28日：NFL PRE-GAME（メドレー３曲）】
続いてはこれまた貴重なプロショット。NFLプレ・ゲームでのパフォーマンスです。こうしたスポーツイベントへの出演はアメリカのバンド／ミュージシャンにはお馴染みですが、本作の現場は本国イギリスのウェンブリー・スタジアムです。
これまた普通のコンサートとは雰囲気が全然違う。日中の明るさもさることながら、スタンド席に観客が詰まっていても（当たり前の事ながら）間近のグラウンドにはいない。その代わりにチアが曲に合わせて威勢良くパフォームし、花火がバンバン上がる。そしてDEF LEPPARDのロゴ入りユニオン・ジャックがグラウンドいっぱいに広げられる。DEF LEPPARD・チア・スタジアム……イメージが合っているような、でも何か違うような。そんな微妙ながらも猛烈に豪華な光景なのです。

【2015年４月13日：LA VOIX SEASON FINALE（メドレー２曲）】
最後はカナダのテレビ番組“LA VOIX”のシーズン・フィナーレに出演した際のパフォーマンス。この番組は音楽番組ではなく、いわゆるリアリティ・タレント番組。そのため、通常のバンド演奏ではなく、番組の出演者たちとの共演になっています。
最初、バンドが普通に「Let’s Get Rocked」を始めるのですが、ジョーが歌い出した辺りからワラワラと共演者がステージ上がってお祭り騒ぎの大共演になる。そのムードは“ミニ紅白”と言いますか……日本のアイドル番組ではよく見かける趣向ですが、ロックバンドでは意外と珍しい光景かも知れません。

ともあれ、全７番組・17曲・１時間21分27秒。本編プレスDVDの補完と呼ぶにはボリューム満点の１枚です。本編にはない曲、珍しいシチュエーション、意外な表情。すべてが面白く、完全オフィシャル級の超・極上プロショットが詰まった銘品。どうぞ、本編プレスDVDと共にたっぷりとお楽しみください。
