“1986 DAVID LEE ROTH BAND” … What kind of seductive sound is it? No matter how much we pursue, everlasting yearning that the hand will never reach. It is the ultimate rock show which does not reveal the whole picture yet while knocking down many hard rock fans into the source hell. Hard rock · shangri-la who hid its figure behind the haze while promising absolute unparalleled paradise. A new masterpiece recording containing such “1986 DLR BAND” was discovered more than about 30 years later. That’s it!
If you love American Hard Rock, I think that you can understand the feelings you can not suppress joy in the appearance of this work, but just in case, let’s explain in order from the beginning.
“DLR BAND in 1986” is the only one with five people, Dave Lee Roth, Steve Vai, Billy Scene and Matt Bisonornet who created the super masterpiece “EAT ‘EM AND SMILE” It is a tour. Both of Britain and America are beyond even the other five members who were said to be “the ultimate hard rock band” also produced the next work “SKYSCRAPER”, but Billy was dismissed shortly afterwards. On subsequent tours, Greg Bisonornet was playing the bass.
Of course, attention is gathered in “1986 DLR BAND” where the fierce armies surpassing the original VAN HALEN gather, but this tour does not have any officials, no pro shots nor sound boards at all! No matter on the earth, no matter what the highest peak rock band in history, that record does not exist! This teeth is it, this regret, this regret. I only have to cling to the audience record that will clear up that thought a little … …. However! How, even the audience record is horribly rare. Speaking of decent recordings, there are only Chicago performances on September 19th and Fresno performances on December 14th (both as “EAT ‘EM AND SMILE IN CHICAGO (Shades 563)” and “SHYBOY IN FRESNO (Shades 459) We have already arrived). That is rare and terrible ‘1986 DLR BAND’. That work appeared as its “third decision board”!
Although it became long, it is actually a Japanese who recorded this rare sound source. Yes, this work is based on a Japanese master who recorded Ozzy’s “ULTIMATE LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA”. It is unmistakable world first public master who was handed out from taper itself. That sound is very clear, even this is the dreadfulness of the “ultimate band”! It tells us. The show is a super-spectacle that is not ashamed of the name of “Ultimate”. Seven songs from all 10 songs of the super name board “EAT ‘EM AND SMILE” were taken up, and suddenly “Shy Boy” from the opening suddenly! As sandwiched between these famous songs, this is another super classic VAN HALEN The songs line up. Moreover, I am playing it, Billy Scene, a master, in a superstar Steve Vai who is not the other. “Unchained”, “Everybody Wants Some”, “On Fire” which made up a few versions of the virtuoso of Eddie Van Halen of history as well, and had more fast-paced bases repeatedly. It was a band that could do such things …. VAN HALEN repertoire revives with “EAT ‘EM AND SMILE” with a burst ensemble. Indeed, super, super, super … … (…) … super luxury. DAVID LEE ROTH BAND played a performance in Japan in 1988, but it was Greg that was playing the base even on that stage that was a great success. Yes, we eventually could not experience the “ultimate hard rock band”. Today, Dave ‘s return to VAN HALEN that I did not dream at the time became a reality, even full of the Tokyo Dome. Completely recorded the live performance of Philadelphia on October 11, which will be the last day of the first leg of the North American tour which started from August of David · Lee · Roth which released ‘EAT’ EM AND SMILE ‘in July 1986 CD-R you did. The cheers are great from the opening, and I can understand their popularity at the time well. Although it is natural that the first song is “Shy Boy”, it is natural that the cheers of the audience are not ordinary, but after the performance of “Unchained” the cheers last for about two minutes. The performance of the band is the best all the time, the play of Billy Scene and Steve Vai at “Elephant Gun” and “Ladie’s Nite In Buffalo” will be the listening to DISC 1. Dave who was birthday the previous day also listens to the best vocals and the talk before “Ice Cream Man” is long. アメリカン・ハードロックを愛する方なら、本作の登場に喜びを抑えられない気持ちを分かってただけると思いますが、念のため、最初から順にご説明しましょう。
「1986年のDLR BAND」とは、かの超名作「EAT ‘EM AND SMILE」を創り上げた５人、デイヴ・リー・ロス、スティーヴ・ヴァイ、ビリー・シーン、マット・ビソネットがそろった唯一のツアーなのです。英米の別さえも超えて“究極のハードロック・バンド”と言われたこの５人は、次作「SKYSCRAPER」も制作しましたが、その直後にビリーが解雇。その後のツアーでは、グレッグ・ビソネットがベースを弾いていました。
当然、オリジナルVAN HALENさえ凌駕する凄腕が集った「1986年のDLR BAND」には注目が集まるわけですが、このツアーはオフィシャルはおろか、プロショットもサウンドボードも一切ない！　地球上、いや、歴史上の最高峰ロック・バンドにも関わらず、その記録が存在しない!!　この歯がゆさ、この悔しみ、この無念。その想いをわずかでも晴らしてくれるオーディエンス記録にしがみつくしかない……。ところが！　なんと、そのオーディエンス記録ですら恐ろしく希少なのです。まともな録音と言えば、９月19日のシカゴ公演、12月14日のフレスノ公演しかない（どちらも「EAT ‘EM AND SMILE IN CHICAGO（Shades 563）」「SHYBOY IN FRESNO（Shades 459）」として入荷済）。それはそれは、希少で凄まじい「1986年のDLR BAND」。その“第３の決定盤”として登場したのが、本作なのです！
長くなりましたが、これだけの希少音源を録音したのは、実は日本人。そう、本作はオジーの「ULTIMATE LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA」を記録した日本の名匠によるもの。テーパー自身から手渡しされた、紛れもない全世界初公開マスターです。そのサウンドは、非常にクリアで、“究極バンド”の凄味をこれでもか！と伝えてくれるのです。そのショウは、“究極”の名に恥じないスーパー・スペクタクル。超名盤「EAT ‘EM AND SMILE」の全10曲から７曲が取り上げられ、オープニングからいきなりの「Shy Boy」!!!!　それらの名曲群を挟み込むように、これまた超名曲のVAN HALENの傑曲が並ぶ。しかも、それを弾いているのは、他でもない超人スティーヴ・ヴァイに、達人ビリー・シーン。歴史上の大革命児エディ・ヴァン・ヘイレンの妙技すら数段バージョン・アップさせ、さらに速弾きベースが幾重にも彩った「Unchained」「Everybody Wants Some」「On Fire」。こんなことが可能なバンドが存在していたなんて……。「EAT ‘EM AND SMILE」でも炸裂した激烈アンサンブルで蘇るVAN HALENレパートリーの数々。まさに、超・超・超……（中略）……超豪華。まさか、本当に“息を飲む”とは、思いませんでした。

DAVID LEE ROTH BANDは、1988年に来日公演を果たしましたが、大盛況だったそのステージでも、ベースを弾いていたのはグレッグでした。そう、私たちは結局“究極のハードロック・バンド”を体験できなかった。現在では、当時は夢にも思わなかったデイヴのVAN HALEN復帰が現実のものとなり、東京ドームすら一杯にしている。その復活ショウを涙ながらに見つめた今になっても、本作から聞こえる「1986年のDLR BAND」は、あまりに圧倒的です。
言いづらいことですが、正直な話をしましょう。DAVID LEE ROTHのソロは、決して売れ筋ではありません。もしかしたら、多くの方はVAN HALENこそを望んでいて、ソロには興味がないのかも知れない。だから、プレスCDにはできなかった。悔しい、本当に悔しいのですが、それが現実なのです。だからこそ、声を大にして言わせていただきます。「1986年のDLR BAND」は特別なんだ！と。「EAT ‘EM AND SMILE IN CHICAGO」でも、「SHYBOY IN FRESNO」でも、もちろん本作でも構いません。ダイヤモンド・デイヴが、彼自身の実力さえも超えて輝きまくった“究極のショウ”を、ぜひご体験ください！　「1986年のDLR BAND」の凄味を、“究極バンド”の素晴らしさを、１人でも多くの方に知っていただきたい。その想いを込めて、今週末あなたにお届けします。

『EAT ‘EM AND SMILE』を1986年7月にリリースしたデイヴィッド・リー・ロスの、8月からスタートした北米ツアーの1stレグ最終日となる、10月11日のフィラデルフィア公演のライヴを完全収録したCD-R。オープニングから歓声が凄く、当時の彼らの人気ぶりがよく分かる。1曲目が「Shy Boy」なので盛り上がるのは当然なのだが、観客の大歓声は尋常ではなく「Unchained」の演奏後には歓声が2分間も続くほどだ。バンドの演奏は終始最高で、「Elephant Gun」と「Ladie’s Nite In Buffalo」でのビリー・シーンとスティーヴ・ヴァイのプレイはDISC1の聴きどころだろう。前日が誕生日だったデイヴも絶好調のヴォーカルを聴かせ、「Ice Cream Man」の前のトークも長い。DISC2ではビリーとスティーヴのソロもふんだんに聴け、「Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love」の途中ではスティーヴが喋るギターで盛り上げる。録音マイク近くの観客が序盤から歌っているので耳障りなのだが、途中で日本語の会話が一瞬聞こえるので、どうやら歌っているのも録音しているのも日本人のようだ。
