『STATION TO STATION』、『LOW』、『HEROES』といった、ボウイのキャリアでも重要な位置を占める名盤に伴って行なわれたツアーということもあって、1978年のワールド・ツアーは最も人気のあるツアーのひとつ。日本公演に臨場したファンも多いのではないだろうか。当時のボウイの日本での人気がかなり過熱していた様子が当時の雑誌や新聞、記事などから伺えるが、そんな華やかな報道とは裏腹に、実際のコンサートは暗く重苦しい「ワルシャワ」から始まる落ち着いたものに驚かされる。このツアーを収録したアルバム「STAGE」が当初は実際のコンサートと前後半を入れ替えて収録されたのも、あまりに当時のロック・コンサートのイメージとは異なるオープニングだったからであろう。もちろん現在ではこの時代の評価も固まり、実際の曲順に沿って完全収録されているのはご存知の通りである。

本作で注目はその音質である。広がりのあるクリアで素晴らしいオーディエンス録音はこのツアーの最高のもののひとつ。1978年ツアーの超高音質音源。このツアーを代表するタイトルのひとつである。美しいピクチャー・ディスクの永久保存がっちりプレス盤。
